If you visit during low tide, make sure to walk across to the small island. It's a really unique experience, but be prepared because the rocks are much tougher to navigate than they look. I would definitely recommend wearing sturdy shoes as the uneven rocks can be slippery or uncomfortable. Whether you're there for the wildlife, the ocean views or simply a peaceful walk, Whytecliff Park is one of West Vancouver's hidden gems.

Mary is after only space for a few cars to park. But after a maximum of 10 minutes, depending on your fitness level, you arrive at a truly spectacular sight. The view of Howe Sound and the Straight of Georgia is beautiful and well worth the walk in. If you time you are arrival perfectly you will have one of the two really good spot at the end the trail to watch the sunset. It is a really romantic place for that. Is also an excellent place if you want to have a picnic or a family outing on a warm summer day as the breeze from the ocean made it quite cool.

The highlight of this park is a lovely, historic lighthouse built on a huge granite boulder - but…read moreto get to the lighthouse, you hike through a massive old-growth forest with magnificent views of Burrard Inlet and downtown Vancouver off in the distance! The original lighthouse was wooden and lit in 1875 - this current lighthouse was built in 1912 out of concrete on top of a massive granite boulder. It's still in use today although the light is now automated. You can't access the lighthouse itself - it's closed off by fencing. But there are some buildings surrounding the lighthouse with interesting info signs on the parts they played during WWII. There's also picnic tables if you need a rest or some snacks. The trail up to the lighthouse viewpoint are wide and very well maintained. The entire trail is a moderate loop just over 4 miles long with almost 450 feet elevation gain according to AllTrails. Due to time constraints, we only hiked from the parking lot to the lighthouse viewpoint- it was pretty easy and it's less than a mile to the lighthouse with just over 100 feet of elevation gain. So round trip we did less than 2 miles. There's a large parking lot at the trailhead that's pay-to-park. We paid via QR code on one of the signs easily - we had good cell signal. It was just over $10CAD for about 2 hours so very reasonable.

The trail doesn't have any signs leading to the waterfalls, but as long as you walked along the creek (follow the sound of rushing water), you will be fine. Within ten minutes, you should pass by a small waterfall--cannot really see it because of a fence for safety reasons. There is also a bridge there. Do not cross the bridge if you want to see the actual waterfall (that's what we were told by a fellow hiker). So we do not really know what's after the bridge lol. It an uphill trail until you reaches a chain-linked fence. Basically, stay on the left path and after another 15-20 minutes, taadaa, the waterfall! The rock formations near the fall look like a side view of a person's face. Cypress Falls Trail is breathtaking--full of Fir and Douglas trees! About 2 miles round-trip; really easy hike. Great for family and kids. It's also dog-friendly!!

Hidden Gem in the middle of the city. What a find! Trying to…read morestay busy by discovering new parks around me and WOW! It does not feel like you are in the city at all as soon as you get here. Forest everywhere with a little river in the middle. There is a wooden walkway that leads you right into this magical place. To get to the walkways go all the way at the end of the park (closer to 22nd) and you will see the entrance. The walkway doesn't go through the whole park. It stays in a small section but you will not regret it! Only tip would be to maybe add a trashcan at the entrance.

I usually walk further out to Ambleside so it will be over 2 km one way. It is beautiful by the waters, especially during sunset. I am more of a stroller as I like to walk, stop, take pictures or rest, and move on. There are also poke gyms and poke-stops if you are into PoGo. Parking is available at Dundarave or Ambleside areas, and virtually everywhere on the street. You can also leave the seawalk anytime as there are a few breaks where you can walk out. Highly recommended if you do not want to hike, and just want a simple and easy walk by the water.

Beginning at the foot of 15th Avenue in West Vancouver, you find a pebble beach with dramatic views of the Bridge, Stanley Pk. and the city of Vancouver. The large ships dwarf the passage and their wake licks at the shore in a rhythmic tantra. Sea birds fly around really making this one of my favourite places to meditate. Walking West along the water on the foot path all the way to the 2nd pier, (over by the Beach Cafe) is approximately 2.5 k. Good news for people with pups: It looks like they may allow one week per month when dogs are actually able to walk ON the path instead of the other side of the fence! Enough people must have come together for that change to happen.

Be sure to come early before the hordes arrive. The park is actually quite short. Can walk across it in just a few minutes. There is a picnic shelter, as well as a seawall walking area. John Lawson's house can also be seen here. No idea why they called him Navvy Jack. It's fenced off though. Hopefully they restore it one day. Worth checking out if one is already at Ambleside.

One of my favourite little spots is the pond along the edge of the beach, where I've spotted beautiful swans. It's the opposite of the busy seawall and a perfect place to watch nature. I especially love the nighttime here where you get to take in all the glory of the Lions Gate Bridge and the sparkling lights of the city. Ambleside Beach is a rare place that somehow still manages to make you feel peaceful in the middle of a very busy city.
