It's also handily placed for my ski group's annual UK reunion as it's in the middle of England and we live all over the UK. Tamworth is just NE of Birmingham, a few minutes off junction 10 of the M42. It's located just outside town in a complex of leisure facilities including a swimming pool. Parking space is sufficient unless there's a big event on in town as people then park at the snowboarding centre and walk into town. The snow quality is good and certainly beats skiing on dry slopes. At lunchtime, they close the slope and groom it, which makes conditions for afternoon skiing also good. You an pre-book your ski session and the booking process is easy and painless. Your skiing time is determined by a swipecard that activates your access to the ski lift. The changing area is a little small and the floors can get wet but it's adequate. I have my own boots and the process for getting skis is quite efficient. I definitely recommend using the hire skis as indoor slopes can damage your own skis. They do take some care to make sure that your skis are on the right DIN settings. The slopes are accessed by a set of 2 travellators on one side and a shorter rope tow on the left. One possible problem is that there is a right angle bend halfway up the slope and once you get on the first travellator, you're committed to go to the top, whichn you can't see and nervous first time skiers may be a bit worried. At the top, it can get a bit icy but the gradient isn't too bad - a decent blue run. It's just long enough to have some fun and it's possible to get slight air near the bottom of the run but it's never going to be as long as a mountain run. The main issue for me is that they do a lot of teaching on the main slope and when they run lessons on both sides, the main run becomes dangerously narrow, especially with skiers coming round the right angle bend blind at high speed. There is a bar/restaurant which serves pub style lunches. Worth a leisure trip especially with other leisure facilities like Drayton Manor Park theme park and bowling nearby.

I have never actually measured it but judging by my cycling speed and other routes I have cycled I am guessing it is about 11 miles each leg so 22 miles return. It is an easy ride as it follows the canal bank for the majority- a very picturest and the majority of it peaceful without interruption of car engines etc!!! It is good to do in a group- there are plenty of watering houses on the way and the end destination also has a couple of great pubs where you can get a bite to eat/ have a drink!Good for Kids to join in with too!

There are many boats there for all types of users from beginners to experts. It is located over at chasewater and has lovely surroundings. Great place to be if your interested in this the staff are brilliant. I know of a few people who have been there and they have all come back saying how brilliant it was and how the staff are really good with them. The staff have many years are experience.

At the heart of the National Forest this is a great place for a day out for children of all ages…read more Half the action is indoors and half outdoors so you are guaranteed a good day whatever the British weather decides to throw at you. Most of the indoor stuff is centred around interative displays relating to the natural world and partly relating back to the National Forest. Its one of those places that is sneakily educational - and kids learn whilst they are playing without realising. Its terribly pc - with hidden messages about the environment everywhere. They do support green issues and I believe have contributed toward research into alternative energy sources locally. You CAN get immersed in the displays and forget the time so be warned. Also inside are the obligitary cafe and soft play area - both kind of average - but not the worst either. Outside is a water play area - with a working dam like structure - which is hard to explain but fascinating, and jolly good wet fun when the sun shines. There is a steam train which takes you back and forth from one side of the site to the other - good for tired little legs towards the end of the day. The adventure playground/park area is really strong - one of the best examples locally. Its really rugged and a bit different to the norm - with plenty of space. The equipment is a bit more testing qand inventive than your bog standard swings and slides scenario. They do Kids parties here, which I have been to - generally entertaining - although I have to say the food was not the best. Costs £6.95 per adult and £4.95 per child, which I think is possible a little steep. It is worth noting that if you are local and would use the facilities alot you can get a season membership. My son practically used to live here before he started school - so this was the most cost effective option. If there are any teachers etc,. on here - would make a great place for a class day out.

There is also the science bit inside where there are interactive exhibits. Most of the place is outdoors so it's best on a nice day but still great any time of year. There are regular falconry displays which my family absolutely love. There are also different educational shows at the amphitheatre unfortunately, I seem to miss all of them! There is a train which takes you from one side of the park to the other. My favourite bit is the Barefoot Walk. Take your shoes off and feel the clay, the cold water, the shale, the coal It's so refreshing. It has been extended but I still think it should be longer! I would pay the entry price just for that. There are a couple of places to eat and drink although I would recommend taking a picnic because those places are a little expensive. The only things I think could be improved are: there are very few toilets. They could do with putting one or two in the places which are further from the entrance! Also, the parks/play areas/obstacle things are quite spread out so if you have children of very different ages, that can be awkward. Otherwise, it is a great day out. I think it costs around £30 for a family which includes all of the attractions (apart from one or two fairground type rides which are £1 or £2 and can easily be avoided!)

Opportunity to jump small fallen logs/ branches in the woods, wading through the canals/ rivers and also a good canter up the hills. Small - mid size group rides and very reasonable in price... I do not want to quote the price as it has been some months since I last went but it was £25.00 per person when I did last go. The school itself is well maintained and the livery well looked after. A good afternoon out for friends or those that simply enjoy riding. Good in the autumn months when the ground in not too dry/ not too wet and it looks pretty too as natures colours are changing
