What can I say about the King's Arms? I'm at home here. When we moved to the UK, honestly our most…read moredesired feature was walking distance to a pub. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.

This place was an absolute godsend! Gorgeous setting,…read morefriendly staff and OMG food!!!!!! We were staying nearby and had researched this place on Tripadvisor so knew the locality to the hotel had v little to offer. We booked a table on Saturday afternoon for dinner Saturday evening 8pm. We battled the snow for the short drive and loved the initial view of the pub from the road. We received a warm greeting from the Landlord Rob and felt like we'd stepped back in time. They had a roaring fire on and a very busy dining area with delightful smells wafting our way. There was a good choice of hand pull beer and lager and the staff were actually stood polishing the glasses! We sat in the bar area while our table came free and exchanged a bit of chat with the landlord and locals. The decor is very sympathetic to the original footprint of the building and its not trying to be anything but a good local pub offering good food- something they are getting wonderfully right! We had been given the menu to browse over while waiting and the choice of food on offer on the menu and from the 'specials blackboard' was a sight to behold. We were seated and had finally made our choice :- Rabbit 'pasty' and Pheasant for Mr Haddock goujons & Shin of beef for me The service was second to non and the food was wonderful. The 'pasty' was packed full of rabbit and the pastry very nicely cooked The haddock was a good solid fillet with very light tasty batter The Pheasant was cooked to perfection and served in a cream sauce and my Shin of beef was a delight. Served with plenty of veg and a creamy mash I left v little on the plate. We had a look at the dessert menu (well, it's rude not to!) and just had to polish the meal off with one each. Mr had Chocolate parfait & I the good old reliable Sticky Toffee Pudding! Again, faultless! We were not rushed in the slightest and the staff were attentive while giving us plenty of time. All the food provided out to the other diners was superb looking and I'd say 99% of plates were cleared! We returned back for lunch on the Sunday and I had Lamb Sunday lunch and the Mr Duck breasts, again, all super! The only criticism for this place is too much choice! That, and the way the dining area is laid out there is one area where you cannot see the great 'blackboard' menu and may feel a little out of the way. If you are ever in the area, definitely go as the greeting, setting and food are second to none!

I will say that if they say that something is spicy or contains chilli, they really mean it! We went here for an anniversary meal and absolutely loved it…read more I chose three dishes from the specials menu - scallops with pak choi, teriyaki, oyster mushrooms and sesame seeds - it was delicious. My wife chose chicken liver parfait - this was great tasting and nice and light. For main I chose Trio of White rabbit - leg with star anaise, confit wrapped in parma ham and liver all with a masala sauce and fondant potato - one of the best dishes I have tasted. for desert we shared a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream - the sauce was excellent. The meal for two with wine came to 70 which is pretty reasonable for the quality and considering the rabbit was pretty much the most expensive dish on the menu. I would happily visit this restaurant over and over again, my only disappointment might be that the rabbit is not on the menu!

This pub is an a lovely location, just off the main road in the beautiful village of Harlestone,…read morewith its gorgeous sandstone buildings and typically English charm. But this is another pub that has changed hands a few times but has yet to find its footing. The name has reverted back to The Fox and Hounds again, after a short spell as The Dusty Fox, and they have done a great job of smartening up its image to bring it up-to-date and trendy. Unfortunately, I think they have tried a bit too hard with some aspects and the food is ridiculously over-the-top 'posh nosh' at expensive prices. This has scared the locals away and probably the passing traffic like me, who wants good quality 'pub grub' and a drink after a long walk in the surrounding countryside. I went there recently looking for a light bite at lunchtime but was given a menu that was full of rich, heavy meals like duck terrine and scallops at silly prices. I was astonished and had to double check with the staff that I had the right menu. I had, and promptly turned around and out of the door. Disappointing.
