I was not there for treatment of my autoimmune condition--I already had a neurologist managing that. I came specifically for help with mold illness, yet nearly every symptom I reported was attributed to my autoimmune disease while my mold concerns were never addressed. At the time, I was incredibly sick and so desperate to feel better, so I was willing to try almost anything that gave me hope. Because of that, it didn't take much for me to agree to finance treatment. I deeply regret that decision. My initial consultation was with Dr. Willis, but after that I never saw him again. Every subsequent appointment I had was with other staff members, such as a nutritionist. I later learned that Dr Willis was a chiropractor rather than a functional medicine physician, and there was no physician involved in my care who could prescribe medications. Most appointments were phone calls that consisted of me crying and being told to give the 'treatment' more time while my health continued to decline significantly. I also experienced repeated problems with my 'medical records' and the administrative side of my care, including errors in medical documentation and billing. In my experience, the entire process was disorganized and added to an already overwhelming situation. After months of treatment, I had accumulated a large loan while my condition continued to worsen. Ironically, I am now doing significantly better under the care of a physician who actually specializes in mold-related illness and toxicity. This experience left me feeling devastated and taken advantage of. This is my personal experience, and I hope others carefully research who will be treating them, understand their credentials and scope of practice, and think carefully before making a significant financial commitment before signing anything.

It was clear that certain staff members in critical positions are not trained -- or not willing -- to de-escalate, listen, or handle difficult situations with basic empathy. What I experienced felt more like ego and defensiveness than patient care. My provider has been supportive, but the front-end leadership turned an already stressful medical situation into something unnecessarily painful. No patient who is already struggling should walk out feeling worse because of the staff's attitude. UCSD is a respected institution -- but this experience shows that some individuals do not uphold the standard the institution's name carries. Despite the fact that they wasted an hour and a half of my time at my previous visit, they refused to see me and said they didn't have staff to accommodate me. Their "solution"? Validating my parking. As if that makes up for the fact that I still don't have a primary care physician and now have to wait months for another appointment. This place clearly does not value its patients' time or care about actually providing medical services. They expect you to wait indefinitely for them, but if you're just a few minutes late, they turn you away with zero regard for your health. Absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this place if you actually want reliable healthcare.

The care of the patient I was visiting seemed friendly and caring, tending to her pain level needs sensitively. She did have one nurse that she thought was insensitive to her needs and talked to her in a condescending tone. The last straw was when she was made to feel like it her fault that she fell (patient is a fall risk), so she ended up requesting a new nurse and all was great after that.

I have given birth to two babies with the midwives in the birth center here and had the BEST…read moreexperience. I then was pregnant with twins and high risk and had an emergency c section. My doctor was great. The C-section doctors did a good job and handled it well. However, the post birth care and the NICU experience was cold, removed and truly awful. Note, the doctors are not to blame. The NICU doctors were incredible and tried to advocate for me, as did my doctor. the issue came in with some nurses and management and the facility furnishing issues. I was in tremendous pain, due to c section my milk had not come in, and I had one baby in the NICU and one in my room- needing to travel between two floors to try and breastfeed for milk to come in. The nurses repeatedly tried to deny me use of a gurney, we had to have multiple disputes on every new shift over this since it was too painful for me to walk or sit in the HORRIFIC yellow chairs in the NICU and the post partum maternity rooms. These are rockers that were clearly picked out by someone who has never had a baby and especially hasn't had a c section. Even my husband couldn't sit in them without back pain. We were expected to sit in these chairs or be denied holding our baby in the NICU. We were told by doctors and nurses who confided in us that we were not the first people to complain about these. Apparently many mothers couldn't hold or nurse their babies in these chairs but the administration has refused to replace them because they cost something like $700 or more a piece. Again- someone thought these looked good- but they actually are not just uncomfortable but impede a mother's ability to be with her newborn baby. It's completely unacceptable how many complaints have been received and these chairs haven't been replaced. We had to file complaints and even speak to top tier leadership over the maternity wing, and I will tell you the woman was COLD, removed and completely disinterested in patients or her staff. This was July 2025 so the woman who was over it then, I wish I could remember her name- it took her 24 hours to come speak to us. She didn't care- at all. She was annoyed. And she set the tone for the nurses there. Some nurses were great but many were not- they felt entitled to treat post partum moms like they were a burden, high maintenance and denied basic comforts and support . The chairs desperately need to be replaced. It's devastating to not be able to nurse your baby, hold your nicu baby, because the chair is so unbearably painful you can not sit in it. I was crushed, and so was my husband when we needed to be able to support our baby in fragile health, and something so minor like a chair could prevent you from taking care of your baby. The admin staff wouldn't remove the chair, provide accommodations or replace it. It was simply too expensive to replace the chairs, despite me receiving a $70,000 bill via my insurance for the hospital and nicu stay. Mind you, the bill wasn't just for doctors- it was for room and board. The price tag attached to a daily stay for what we experienced- was criminal. The chairs need to be replaced. You don't have the strength, energy or ability to stand with the level of exhaustion after a c section, they need to replace those chairs. Mothers should receive more support. It took me over a year to finally write this review. I thought maybe my hormones made me more upset than I should have been, but I still can't believe what we were put through here. And the lack of support for the doctors and nurses who have tried to express the need for adequate chairs for post partum moms to care for NICU babies. It's very sad. UCSD is a pretty hospital, but they truly have put aesthetic before the needs of patients, babies, mothers. It's disgusting.
