There was a rumor floating around that there's a restaurant inside G-Mart and supposedly is pretty yummy. I didn't believe them... until I walked inside, up the stair in the back of the grocery store... and found the hidden restaurant. It is super cute. I loved everything about this cute little, family ran restaurant. We got lucky, we were seated right away and the customers thereafter had to wait 20-30 minutes. Menu with pictures and pricing is hung up on the wall. Super simple and easy. Pricing is a little bit on the higher end as the portions are a bit smaller than expected. My thoughts: give them a try and see for yourself. I just love the atmosphere and idea of a restaurant inside of the grocery store. Just totally didn't expect that. For a Tuesday evening dinner crowd at 7pm this place was rolling! Over half the seating area full upon arrival and we were seated right away and warm barley tea was served, along with our utensils. The service was fast as the staff came 3 times to ask if we were ready to order and we were busy catching up, but when we were, we ordered right away. We got the jjim mandu, spicy pork bbq, and soon doo boo (spicy tofu stew). After we ordered the side dishes amd everything started to arrive. That is when feasting began! Even as we ate groups of 3-4 came and went. The mandu was flavorful on its own, and with the dipping sauce it added more saltiness. The spicy pork bbq was so good with the hot rice and side dishes, it hit the spot. The soon doo boo as well was not too spicy and had a lot of the soft tofu which gave texture and balance. There is usually a raw egg given to crack into the stew, but the egg was already in the pot. Discovered it while eating as I thought it was a piece of tofu, not a bad surprise though it was cooked to over medium. So much variety with pictures on the wall to help you decide or their 2 page menu from appetizers, street food style dishes, stews, and meats, you really can't go wrong. I haven't had the mandu before and glad I got it from seeing recommendations. Located above a Korean market, this authentic Korean restaurant is a place I frequent. Whether for lunch or dinner, Spring Restaurant is always hitting the spot. Their Kimchi Jjigae is a great classic. The only issue is that it has some tomato (??) taste to it sometimes. I'm not sure if there actually is tomato in it (not normal), but somethings not normal. Regardless, it's still my go-to for a good Korean meal. I also recommend if you have a hungry party to get the Pajeon (Scallion Pancake). The kimchi Pajeon is delicious and a classic that is hard to do wrong. The service is nice and prompt. Bouchon served with all meals. Barley tea with dinner. If you walk into the store towards the back corner by the cold cases, the stairs are there. The banchan was fantastic. I've been coming here for a while and forgot to leave a review. One of the better places to eat in the Beaverton area. Family owned business so you know some of their dishes have unique tastes. Small seating area but not busy enough to warrant a huge wait. Staff is friendly and attentive when needed. The picture on the wall is very handy for folks who aren't fluent/understand Korean so they can know what their dishes will look like. Also their hand-menu has english translations of these dishes so they take that extra step as well. Food is always good, no complaints. I have driven by multiple times and never knew this was here. It is inside an asian grocery on the top floor, next to the subaru dealership. Decor was very basic and parking was limited, but not a problem. Our server (maybe the owner) was very friendly and kept bringing us more side dishes. Now our favorite Korean place! Everything is absolutely delicious. Mandu (dumplings) were pillowy, light, served with a tangy sauce. 10 went down easily. I ordered my go-to dolsot bibimbap with tofu. It isn't on the menu but they accommodated me with a smile. Stone pot was wide and scalding which made for a perfect layer of crusty goodness at the bottom. Hubs ordered the whole fish and loved it. Sides were all unique tasting and fresh. Excellent service! Note: restaurant is in mezzanine of the G Mart. We were in Beaverton so we figured we would go to a Korean restaurant nearby. We found this place on accident. It's on the second floor of GMart. Not what we were expecting but we still went for it, walked up the stairs. Then BAM! Tuesday night and the tables are full of folks with tables full of food and the smell and warmth hits right away. The wall has large photos of all items available and the menu is pretty extensive. Our waiter was really kind and attentive and gave us a great suggestion of his favorite meal. I got what he suggested which was the Gamja Tang. It was a spicy pork neck bone soup and the meat was falling off the bone with the savory broth to accompany it. Two huge potatoes were perfectly soft all spooned over a bowl of rice. It wasn't very spicy but was full of flavor. My partner got Haemuk Dolsor Bibimbap which is a spicy seafood bowl and it came out piping hot how we like it. The baanchan was on point and the tea was a nice start to the meal. I've eaten here a couple times. The menu is reasonably large, prices aren't any worse than anywhere else. They give you eight dishes of banchan which is better than a number of places. I don't think the food is quite as good as at is at some of the places,but it's not terrible. I'd give them three stars. But... I was eating there and an employee was having their lunch at a nearby table They had a terrible cold, coughing and sneezing and blowing their nose, laying the much-used napkin down on the table Upon finishing their meal they went into the kitchen and brought back a dry rag and daubed back and forth with it on the table, spreading their germs for the next person to eat there. I've been a semi-regular at Spring Restaurant going back a few years since a friend introduced me to this place hidden up the stairs of a inconspicuous-looking Korean supermarket (G-Mart). This review is based on the most recent visit about a week ago with my girlfriend. We were fortunate to have come in a little early (around 5:30 I think); get there later, and you'll be faced with a long wait (there were quite a number of people waiting outside by the time we started eating). We were served hot tea (very nice for a cold and rainy day; I believe it was barley tea?) and ordered a few things between us. Service was relatively prompt for such a crowded and seemingly understaffed restaurant; you may need to try a couple times to flag down a waitress during the really busy hours. They are friendly, though, just... very busy! The banchan here is fairly standard; on that day we had the cabbage and daikon kimchee, fish cakes, seaweed and daikon, mashed potatoes, potatoes in syrup, soy bean sprouts, and the tips of some kind of greens. Quantity a bit small but you can ask for seconds on whatever you liked. Compared to Nakwon (which I consider more restaurant-style), the banchan here tastes more home-made and less pretentious or fancy. What we ordered: - Kimchi fried rice (kimchi bokkeumbap): served with a hard fried egg and sprinkled dried seaweed on top; excellent when piping hot, good sear/wok hei, seaweed an excellent idea as an addition (I started doing it at home since this). Not so great when it cooled down (we took the leftovers home and re-fried it to heat up - don't microwave it!) - Tofu stew (soondubu jiggae): good, but very standard and did not stand out. They didn't give us an egg to crack in ourselves, like Haerim and Nakwon would do. - Potato/pork soup (gamjatang): first time I had gamjatang and it was excellent; I can't taste what the wild sesame seeds do, but the additional crunch made the texture much more interesting and enjoyable. Deep flavor, earthy and not very spicy (I don't remember being asked about spice level so this is probably the standard spice level). I'll order this again. We had enough food for 2 meals for both of us for $40 total - I consider that a very good price. The tofu stew was the only (slight) disappointment of an otherwise very good meal (it wasn't bad, just... didn't impress us). The food feels more homely than Nakwon's or even Ara's (OK, I'm not Korean, so please take this with a grain of salt). Service not the best but I can see that they were doing all they could with the limited staff, so I don't blame them. We'll keep coming back. read more

Definitely one of the best, if not the best Korean restaurants I have tried in this area. I got takeout from Spring Restaurant for steamed mandu, tempura udon, and jjolmyeon. While the noodles for the udon were slightly bloated and the jjolmyeon was not as chewy as I would have liked, those aspects were all due to the order being delivered. I know if I ate the food at the restaurant as soon as the food came out my mind would have been blown. Overall, even with takeout, everything was fresh and tasted like homemade cooking. They close at 9p with the grocery store on weekdays so be sure to get ready to go if you are coming in for a late dinner! Kitchen closes at 830p on weekdays so you can order up until that part. The portions here are bigger than what I am used to in comparison to most Korean restaurants so order accordingly. I love all the sides the give you and it is good sides like kimchi, pickled cucumbers, potatoes, bean sprouts, etc! Great view of the grocery store, it is pretty cool to be honest. My faaavorite Korean restaurant! I always go here to get my fix. My favorite dishes have been the japchae and bibimbap. The noodles are so delicious and I enjoy all the vegetables in it as well (how rare!) The bibimpbap in the stone pot creates this crunchy rice that is to die for. Mixed in with all its toppings (or even just alone), it's delicious! In addition to this, all of the side dishes are tasty. There's a great variety, from fish cake to kimchi, but my personal favorite is the beansprouts. I've never had a better beansprout side dish. Also, the service is amazing. The employees are so kind and patient. I ordered to go once and was given a veryyy generous amount of the side dishes as well! That usually never happens!!! Thank you for those beansprouts!!! I am in banchan heaven! * Banchan are the side dishes. (Now that I got that out of the way on to my review!) I miss Korea a lot but I miss Korean food even more! There are times when I find myself trying to recall an exact taste from a small restaurant I once visited and usually feeling most places in the states have missed the mark. That was not the case here. Spring Restaurant is located above G Mart (yes I said "G" mart) and it can be reached by an open staircase in the back of the store by the meat counter. As you climb up the turning staircase you can begin to smell the food which makes you want to climb faster! When you enter you will notice that it is a small restaurant and tables are very close to one another. I waited to be seated and a very tall young man took me to my seat and was my server. He was extremely polite and checked on me several times during the time I was here. He brought some barley tea which I sipped while deciding what I would have. They even had the TV on YTN which added to the Korean vibe. It's not a pretty restaurant but what they jack in ambiance they make up with great food! I decided on the Yukgae Jang which is a beef and clear noodle soup made with several vegetables including bracken, leeks and sprouts. It is a typical spicy and red colored soup. The soup itself was perfect. They didn't need to do anything else to it. There was a lot of bracken and leeks in it which is just how I like it! Now... At the beginning of my review I mentioned that I was in banchan heaven. I'm going to be completely honest, I am addicted to banchan, the Korean side dishes! When I saw they brought a nice spread of banchan I was very happy. I enjoy the different tastes and textures and they truly add to the enjoyment of the meal. They had kimchi (pickled Napa cabbage), seaweed, potato, spinach, radish, bean sprouts and oden (fish cake). Three of these were so good that my server filled them up twice! There was so much food that I still had half of my soup left over and took that home! The one drawback is if you come at the lunch rush you will have to wait a bit. "Mix this one and this one" It was painfully evident that my authentic Korean food skillz were lacking, so my new "auntie" provided a quick tutorial. We had ordered a minor feast, after all there was much to celebrate. My attorney friend had confirmation that she'd been hired, we'd discovered a new Korean market (synonymous in my book with good cheap Asian food stuffs), and after months of going without, decent home-style Korean food was only a few finger points away (they've got one of those helpful picture menus up on the wall. It is at this point you'll be glad you pushed through my usual mindless drivel and kept reading because this restaurant ain't called "Umma's" It's now "Spring Restaurant". If you think great Korean food is tough to find in PDX, try finding it while looking for a restaurant with a name that no longer exists. Anyway, from the 26, take 217 South, get off at Canyon road hang a right, then a quick right on 114th and shazzam you'll see Pal-do Market (Spring Restaurant is in the loft space up the stairs). The sizzling Kal bi platter, the glorious stone pot with its spicy beef, gooey egg, and crispy rice, then finally the cold stainless steel bowl of sweet and sourness. It is at this point where we received assistance, after cutting our soup noodles the friendly lady who seemingly does it all here ( and who came across like an aunt, though I'm not Korean) provided helpful guidance on how best to eat our dishes. A mix or two here. A sprinkle of this sauce there. And we were all set. Great food. Great service. Two months ago I would have given this five-stars without blinking, but under my reformed rating system (one in which I'm attempting to practice restraint and self control, now if I could just do that with my spending and eating) such maximum star action is now reserved for only the truly stellar, amazing, and incredible.
