I usually would go to Sarasota Memorial, Downtown, which I do for breast exams, etc. and rate them highly. I will not come back to SMH at University Parkway for a MRI. The person providing the MRI said he was at the end of his 7 hour shift. He was not dressed neatly in "uniform" of any kind, and smelled of BO. I first thought he was a maintenance person. He did not provide assistance in terms of how to negotiate the MRI bed, what to hold on to, etc. Very casual and not engaged in the process. Very unusual from positive experienced I have had with SMH downtown.

At the front desk I was asked if I have flu symptoms or a rash, so I answered honestly that I noticed a rash on my back and want to know if it is shingles? I suspected might be shingles because I had it ones 20 years ago. After being placed in a room, I overheard nurse Nicole making loud and rude comments about me from outside. She was scared that she might get itI also clearly heard the nurse practitioner, William Field, say, "Tell her that I'm not going in there either." One would think that nurses know that Shingles is not spread through the air--only by direct contact with blister fluid--and is easily managed in a medical setting with basic precautions. Instead of providing care, they abandoned me, leaving me in pain, embarrassed, and without help. Patients deserve compassion, not dismissal. Stay away from this Optum care office!

I was recently sent to this facility by the 3rd party vendor used by a large company for employment…read morepurposes. The physical required was quite thorough and intense as per the requirements of the company hiring (they pay for this medical visit). I was impressed at how the process moved along and there was no down time waiting in rooms between required exams (eye, hearing, EKG, chest x-ray, blood and urine work-!). I was also very impressed when this facility reached out to me a few days after all these tests to let me know one of the tests was showing a reading for high cholesterol. Now, the 3rd party vendor in charge of requiring all these exams didn't bother to tell me about this result, because I guess it was not an area they cared about as much as things like clearing the drug test. The 3rd party vendor let me know about 2 minor things I had to clear for employment purposes, but never mentioned the cholesterol result. Sitting here now I can say I am really impressed with the integrity of this medical facility to care enough about the person going through the intense round of medical requirements to give them some useful information even though they are getting paid by the 3rd party vendor and really could probably just skate by forwarding the info directly to them and not bothering to inform the person who was sent there by the 3rd party vendor. Everyone was very professional and good their job. I would highly recommend this place for care and their prices are posted on a sign right out in the lobby so you know what you are looking at for drop in or urgent care walk in services.

I've done it dozens of times over the years. Apparently they don't take veterans as patients and refused to treat me. I left still sick and disappointed that all they really want is money, not providing urgent care.
