We brought at least 2 or 3 dozen relatives and friends here to eat Friday night last part of our wedding party for our daughter and the ambiance, service and food considering it was a busy Friday night on a holiday weekend were superb. This is a Spanish/Tapas style place with an excellent location a fully stocked bar and an amazing menu. We pretty much ordered plates to share both appetizers and entrees and as the plates arrived each was remarkable. They ranged from tasty to spicy and each had a tasty twist. My phone usually eats first but in this case I ate first I forgot to take pictures of most of these delicious dishes but I've found a new fav in Philly without a doubt. I had no clue what I was in store for but Amada did not disappoint- holy cow! I also went in during happy hour which I did not realize which made it even better. My absolute favs and recommendations: papatas bravas, lamb meatballs, datiles, gambad al ajillo, chamuca, ensalada verde, Iberico Brocheta. And yes my friend and I ordered all these things and we ate every single bite. If you are considering going to Amada, let me make that decision for you- YESSSSSSSSS! First team meal after day 1 of the conference. My boss' wife made the reservation for our team to come here since it was a highly rated restaurant and there was an escape room next door. Great planning! Amada is a Tapas restaurant so all the food is mean to be shared family style. The restaurant seems to be really fancy. I noticed some curtains they would use to section off groups, or couples, for the intimate touch. We shared a few pitchers of Sangria ($36/pitcher) and probably would have shared a few more if we didn't have to be somewhat okay for the escape room afterwards. We opted for the Tinta Sangria, which comes with spiced red wine, brandy, oranges, apple and cinnamon. The menu was nice and it had something for everyone. It accommodated our simple eater and the more adventurous folks. Also my boss has a shellfish allergy, which they asked about food allergies and was careful to note if each dish was expose to or had any shellfish. The thoughtfulness of their staff was much appreciated. For our feastings, we shared the following: Croquettes (HH $6), Patatas Bravas ($9), Atun ($19), Entrecote ($22), Coca De Alcachofas Y Setas ($15), Mixto: Carnes Y Queso ($25), Pimientos De Padron ($13), Portilla Espanola ($9), and Pollo ($22). The charcuterie plate with the meat and cheese were fun. I also really liked the tortilla espanola and the pimento peppers with deviled egg cream too. We came as a group for happy hour and enjoyed our time! Happy hour is a true hour, only 5-6pm, so we called ahead and booked a table for 5. Reservations can also be made online, though it wasn't at all crowded when we arrived. Service was fairly quick, and the small bites we got were delicious. What a gorgeous restaurant perfect for a special occasion, date night or just to grab some good food! We stopped by Amada for dinner after a candlelight show nearby. We had made a reservation but was nearly 25 minutes late due to some unexpected construction that caused us to walk around the entire section instead of being able to cross the bridge as planned. I had called ahead to let them know and despite being later than we had expected, they were very accommodating! To our advantage, I think it helped that we had planned for a late dinner after the rush. Anyways, the staff seated us right away and did not give us any sense of annoyance or grief. The server came over immediately and greeted us and took our drink orders. We opted for some wine by the glass and sangria options and they were very good! Prices on the wine can vary so if you do not know your wine varietals, I would highly recommend asking your server for the right selection. We ordered the paella (which took about 45 minutes) and a selection of tapas as we had 4 people in our group. Everything was delicious with the highlights being the patatas bravas and the scallops. Had an excellent brunch at Amada with a co-worker. It was a very hot day in Philadelphia and we were out looking for a spot for brunch. Amada was open and still serving, we looked at the menu (great) and the cool interior in both senses of the word and were seated right away. Our server came right over with really solid coffee and we immediately ordered a "bread basket" for $5-which consisted of Mallorca bread, olive oil cake, croissant, cherry & fig jam and whipped butter. I mean...can I move in next door? We also ordered two red wine sangrias, also $5 that were large and iced and fruity and perfect. So far, so GREAT! It was ROUGH choosing just one entree, I flip flopped back and forth for far too long and then landed on the Breakfast Hash of green chile & potato hash, fried eggs, arugula, marinated tomato and paprika aioli. I came here for restaurant week and was super excited because of all the good things I've heard. However, the restaurant week portions were very hit or miss, for example the salad portion was huge and one order of patatas bravas was 6 pieces, but the Manchego only came with 2 slices of cheese and the chorizo was an entree but was two small skewers. Though their restaurant week menu allows you to pick two options for a starter and two options for an entree and I understand that a tapas restaurant would have small portions, if you picked the wrong choices you definitely would have still been hungry at the end of the meal. I came with friends who had been here multiple times in the past for the regular menu and they said they felt the experience was better with the regular menu. For the service, it wasn't as seamless as we would have wished. I understand a tapas restaurant will have dishes come out at different times but for dishes that don't require cooking like cheese, it shouldn't be coming 20 minutes after all the other first courses. During our first course, the waitress offered to bring us more bread and then never brought it. We also got multiple rounds of drinks and were talking during the meal but the waitress kept trying to clear away plates that were clearly full of food. Even if I was done with the plates I definitely still wanted to take the leftovers togo and found it weird they didn't offer that and instead just asked to clear my plates away. Lamb turnovers - 4.5/5 the lamb turnover was gamier than expected, but the flavors are good. Some of my friends usually don't like lamb but they still enjoyed this. Patatas bravas - 3/5 Gambas ajillo - 3.5/5 The shrimp were slightly over cooked and the bread was too crunchy so it didn't absorb the sauce well. Manchego - 5/5 Ensalada verde - 5/5 Olives - 4/5 The olives were as expected. Sirloin steak - 4/5 It was cooked very well but definitely could have used more sauce. But everything was delicious: - manchego cheese with truffle lavender honey 5/5 - not enough crostini though - gambas al ajillo that come with crostini - 5/5 - used crostini from this dish to finish manchego :) and sop up all that lovely garlic sauce - ensalata verde - 5/5 - I do love this salad with the greens, tender asparagus, fava beans, haricot vert, avocado, some thin slices of cheese, and a yummy dressing - bruselas catalana - 5/5 deliciously done - arroz temporado - 5/5 a nice side dish to go with the lamb chops except they arrived at different times - cordero - 5/5 we ordered an extra lamb chop so each of us could have one delicious, meaty chop - vieriras - 4/5 the only item that didn't wow me, the scallops were a little on the mushy side and the sauce a bit salty For dessert we ordered a chocolate mousse 3/5 (nothing special about it) and some other dessert that I can't remember but recall liking it more than the chocolate one so let's give it a 4/5. After our busy day sightseeing in Philly, my Dad and I wanted to end our day with a small bite and some drinks. We came a little after opening with no reservations and were seated immediately (reservations can be made online). Right from the start we were welcome with warm hands and smiles. Service was superb by our waitress and the manager came by to check on us throughout. We were provided fantastic recommendations, accommodations were made, and they took the time to make our experience enjoyable. We chose to dine for happy hour which is offered from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on weekdays. The happy hour menu consists of drinks and other Spanish-inspired small bites. We got the Espárragas and Cojonudo. The asparagus was firm and nicely charred. Though I didn't get much taste of the vinaigrette or egg yolk. The cojonudo came with two very crunchy baguette slices, a spiced pâté, and a small but rich quail egg. We also shared the Arroz Con Leche for dessert which was a rice pudding with a coffee caramel sauce and puffed rice on top. It was light, the pudding was cold and soft, and the puffed rice was a nice crunch. If we come back I'd love to try their other tapas. If you're in downtown Philadelphia, I recommend checking out Amada. It's known for its delicious and unique Spanish cuisine. The interior is rustic and chic with an upscale flare. I hadn't been to Amada since before the pandemic so I was excited to return, but was let down. We got the tasting menu and I wouldn't recommend it. The options do change, but on the night we came not much wowed in the flavor department. The meat and cheese course was fine - I thought it was a generous size. The salad was good, but definitely over dressed. The lamb meatballs and the crab stuffed peppers were the best items we had. The crab was very fresh and both had a lot of flavor going on - something I can't say for the rest of the meal. The shortrib flatbread was meh. In my opinion, it was bland. I loved the octopus at my last visit, but they have since changed the menu and now serve it in a potato purée. I wasn't a fan, but the octopus itself was good (the four pieces we had at least). The wagyu was a huge disappointment. It was extremely chewy and the sauce was flavorless. The mushrooms were fine - wish the truffle came through a lot more. They forgot to bring one of our courses out. The manager was very nice (as was our server, no complaints there) and comped it by giving us a glass of bubbly. This was a nice touch! Unfortunately the rice pudding was not good at all - not only was it the blandest one I've ever had, it wasn't sweet so it reminded me of breakfast. We didn't eat it. Drinks were yummy! If you like a spicy tequila drink you'll adore the Pain & Glory. The Rose Gold was okay; as a passion fruit lover, I found it muted and wanted a lot more of that brightness and acidity. I got 4 of the happy hour appetizers all were very good, the shrimp in garlic butter had so much butter that soaked into the bread I couldn't really eat the bread. We brought kids to Philly and Amada came as one of the highly recommended restaurants. We were able to book an early reservation, but were very surprised to see how busy the restaurant was before 5pm. We ordered a selection of dishes, including Jamon Iberico, octopus, Gambas garlic shrimp, Spanish omelet, Waygu skirt steak, grilled half chicken, and lamp chops. The goods: Jamon Iberico was delicious, but it didn't require any cooking. Octopus was cooked perfectly with great spices. Garlic shrimp was on point, and the butter at the bottom of the dish was gold and I couldn't stop dipping bread in it. Chicken was again cooked perfectly, brown butter added additional nuttiness to the meat. The average: skirt steak and lamp chops, both were overcooked and chewy. Lamp chop was borderlining inedible in my opinion. Service was great, when we mentioned the lamb was overcooked, someone came over to apologies and didn't charge us for the dish. I've been in Philadelphia for so long, but this is my first time eating Amada. I ordered a glass of red and white Sangria, which is good as a small drink. Paella Mariscos's signature Spanish seafood rice tastes really good. There are shrimp, clams, small squid tentacles and fish, and the rice is made with squid ink. It's better than the seafood rice at Barcelona winebar. Spanish Octopus This tapas is super delicious. The octopus skin is fried crispy but the meat is chewy. When eating, dip it in the mashed potato sauce at the bottom, which is so satisfying. Garlic Shrimp is plump and juicy, and it is fresh! Bread slices dipped in olive oil and garlic sauce are indeed a good dish to go with wine. Calamari squid + squid ink combination This is quite standard. I recommend octopus! Wagyu Skirt Steak I like this one! The roasting temperature is just right, very tender, and you can taste the fragrance of butter. The green sauce should be made of fennel. Ham & Fig Salad I personally feel that there is too much balsamic, a bit sour, and I don't seem to taste the fig? Maybe it was mixed with the chopped nuts. Shortrib Flatbread This is delicious! Those who are afraid of not eating enough should order this, it is like a thin pizza. A combination of bacon jam + beef cubes. Chicken Brochette The chicken skewers recommended by the waiter are quite average. I feel that they are not flavorful enough. They are delicious only when dipped in the sauce similar to spicy mayo. In general, the portion is small, which is more suitable for drinking and chatting. If you want to eat enough, I am afraid that two people will have to order more tapas. One being the bar area, which has several high top tables as well as bar seats and the main dining room which has a dozen or more low top tables. My party of 4 had no problems comfortably sitting at our high top, however it looks as if the restaurant can accommodate larger groups if necessary. Decor is fitting for the restaurant, with ambient lighting and dark colors used throughout both dining areas. During our 7pm Friday dinner, the entire restaurant was booked solid, buzzing with energy from both the date night and after work crowds. We were running bout 15 minutes late to our reservation, however Amada was able to hold our table for us, so we were seated immediately. The grand finale table shared paella did not disappoint. Served on a full sized cast iron paella pan to the table, the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned with generous portions of chicken and seafood. It was truly the best way to end an already fantastic meal. For a table of 4, the amount of food we ordered was the perfect amount for all of us to leave happy and satisfied. We were excited to check out Amada for a date night - Friday Night reservation at 7 pm. Not the restaurant's fault, but be warned that parking around this time is miserable. The atmosphere was buzzing and the restaurant was packed. We had a high-top seat next to the bar. This was restaurant week so the menu was a little different and we did the 3-course meal for $45 a person. Kinda wish they had more fish options. We started with four first courses between the two of us. First came the olivas which were plentiful and juicy olives but holy moly were they vinegary. We didn't finish these despite being olive fans - wouldn't recommend them. The Manchego cheese was good (though only 2 slices of the actual cheese) and the TRUFFLE HONEY was as you can imagine - delicious. The patatas bravas were outstanding... when you got fully cooked ones. The first one I bit into was an underbaked potato - not quite as satisfying. The cooked ones were one of my favorite appetizers. The Gambas Al Ajillo (shrimp) was plenty good. One silly gripe I had was that the shrimp and potatoes each had odd numbers of morsels so it made "who gets the last piece" awkward especially for tapas that are meant to be shared. For our second course, the Pollo came out about 30 minutes before everything else. It wasn't hot when it reached our table, but the flavors were delicious and the chicken was tender. 30 minutes later the Lentejas came out. I was expecting more lamb, but I think I maybe misunderstood the description. This was good, piping hot, and great flavors, and very much a fancy lentil soup. The flatbread "Coca de Alcachofas y Setas" was my wife's favorite dish - good taste and temperature. Can't go wrong with truffles! The Arroz Temporado was fine, could have been warmer, again love truffles. For dessert, if you're debating Chocolate cream puff vs Arroz Con Leche, the arroz is the way to go. I love tapas, so I was very excited to try Amada! The experience did not disappoint. We did not have a reservation but were able to snag a few seats at the bar early Saturday evening. The entrecôte (skirt steak) and Cordero (lamp chomps) were both cooked to perfection, tender, and delicious! Came here for brunch on 12/29. Made a reservation on OpenTable, arrived at the time and was seated quickly. Waiter was very nice, talked through the menu and options, and we settled on a glass each of the red and white sangria and the shareable brunch items (i forget what its called) with me getting the shakshuka and my wife getting the burger. The apps involved were great so no complaints there. The burger however tasted like mince meat and eggs in the shakshuka were literally overdone to the point of almost being hard. The side dishes never came with the meals, and only after we finished the actual brunch and drinks did they come out. The waiter did offer us complimentary sangria because of it which was a nice touch but not amazingly helpful. All in all it was 1 1/2 terrible entrees and bad timing. Restaurant wasnt too full (plenty of open tables) so not sure the issue. Would maybe try again for happy hour or dinner if nearby but wouldnt go out of my way. read more
