Findaloo.quick!! my brother,sister in law & i visited this place on christmas day for the eat as much as you like christmas buffet that boasted 40 indian,chinese & thai dishes + a traditional christmas meal.when we arrived the restaurant(if indeed it can be described as such) was gloomy( a blessing in disguise as, having tasted the food, one would probably prefer NOT to be able to see it as well),the disinterested staff were watching the cricket & there were 6 or 8 other dinersso zip for atmosphere.the drinks duly arrived-2 warm beers in thimble size glasses & a thimble full of red wine for my sister in law in a glass the size of a bucket.talking about buckets lets move on to the food. 40 dishes? well if you class stale/soggy poppadums,mango chutney(minus the mango),onion riata,raw fresh chillies,fried chicken skins,sliced raw peppers,onion rings,samosas filled with sage & onion stuffing & tandoori chicken wings clearly made from chickens that were starved to death with a flavour reminiscent of that which one obtains by licking the grate of an open fire dishes then,yes,there may have been 40 items.i won't bore you with details of the cold,stale,greasy & under spiced main course dishes that had clearly languished & died in their unheated bain marie's,left over & lonely from the lunchtime service..suffice to say that the chicken wings were the highlight of the meal.but licking your fire grate works out cheaper and,based on the number of visits i have made to the toilet since dining at chez amantola,better for you. we did of course complain & were met with rudeness(if you think you can cook better then go in the kitchen & show my chef how-chef?have they got one?),arrogance & aggression.it is reassuring to know that the amantola places customer service/satisfaction right up there at the top of the list with quality,taste & value for money.NOT!!. We first went to the Amantola restaurant because we were having a meal there with friends, and enjoyed it so much we now visit regularly despite it being a 20 mile journey for us coming from Hoylake. Every time we have been we have been made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, and this lasts through to when we leave. All the staff are very friendly and polite, even at weekends when the restaurant can be busy. I think it is better to book a table, however we've been in the past without booking when it was busy but only had to wait ten minutes for a table, and we were able to sit down and have a drink whilst we waited. I've probably been to this restaurant at least half a dozen times this year, despite it being a bit of a distance away. I don't mind having to drive 20 or 30 minutes when I'm sure it'll be a decent evening out. I've been let down by other restaurants in the past, which have been good on occasion but then disappointed me on other visits. Both the food and service are consistently very good at the Amantola, and it's because of this consistency I keep going back. It's nice going down with the family on a Sunday afternoon because the young kids eat free, but it's always a lot of fun when we get our friends together and have the buffet which includes all you can drink!!! read more

Extremely dissapointed!!! Went last night hardly any food in the containers no chicken in the Korma ect. staff were taking forever to take our drinks orders so decided to go bar ourselves to be told we can not do that amd to go sit back down asked to speak to a manager and told he is to busy to talk to us if we have a problem to email when we xould see him walking around doing naff all our waitress could not understand anything we were saying and constantley got our orders wrong and kept taking our plates away while still eating (what little food there was) for £19.95 buffet and free drinks (extremely limited) we were v excited but we were charged £20 only 5p but hey! I had my christmas party of 20 with amantola queensferry. booked & went to talk about my plans for the evening 2 mths in advance. on the night my guests were kept waiting for 45 mins before the staff took the orders of which everyone got board & fed up. the soup of the day was packet with some lumps not properly mixed, they took some food from the buffet for our table which was not acceptable. i hadto chase staff all night for service and at the end of the evening i was overcharged by £100 which i hadto sort out the next day. staff & manager were not interested. i paid for 3 courses and on the night their were only 2. they ruined my christmas party & i wont be going back. read more
