We highly recommend Amber Lights! A friend told us how wonderful Amber Lights is, they were so right ! We moved our Dad here after the horrible care he received in a rehab facility. Kelly, the sales manager, was so empathic and kind. He promised us that our Dad would have the best care around the clock. Nurse Sandy and her caregiver staff have been there for years, some over 10 year. Marbella and Troy were amazing, kind, caring, respectful, listened and truly cared about our fathers well being! Anytime he/we rang for assistance, they were there in a minute with more than one person. Our goal for our father was to live in a peaceful, caring place, and Amber Lights was certainly that. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are quiet and cozy. The dinning room is beautiful and the food is delicious! My father has now lived at Amber Lights Tucson for nearly a year. I can't thank Kelly enough for how helpful he was when Dad was hospitalized and newly diagnosed with cancer and lymphoma and I was desperately searching for the right place for him to live after his hospital release. I live in another state and needed help. Kelly treats you like you're his first priority. He's willing to take your call on his cell any time of day. He checked in with me multiple times during the weeks Dad remained in the hospital beyond when he was initially supposed to be released. He goes the extra mile to help you find solutions to your issues, and you can feel that he truly cares. His own inspirational life story seems to drive him to want to make a difference in others' lives. He gave me a contact for movers that could get furniture from Dad's house into Amber Lights on short notice. He even arranged for a loan of a bed when we thought Dad may get released before the furniture move. He also loaned me a wheelchair to get Dad around in his new place until I had another solution. I spent a week there after Dad got moved in and was getting adjusted and could see he was in good hands with his aids. I ate in the dining room multiple times and enjoyed my meals there. I have also found Sandy, the nurse in charge of medical issues there, to be helpful, dedicated, and honest. An example of her honesty is that she proactively recognized Dad's improvement from his immunotherapy and physical therapy and reduced his level of support and related fees without being asked. She reduced them again when she recognized he was stable and able to take care of his medications as well. She's also honest with you about what happened if they miss something, which I very much appreciate. She's diligent about following protocols and managed through the most recent outbreak of Covid a couple of months ago. Dad has made several new friends at Amber Lights that he eats meals with. He attends the church services they offer (including some masses where a priest comes in person). He even made me a paint-pouring art piece at one of the craft sessions held. While I don't believe anywhere exists that is perfectly immune from any issues (Dad did have several hundred dollars of gift cards disappear from his "lock box" in the room; the lockboxes needed to be upgraded as they are basically a wooden box with a key and are not very secure as the keys are accessible to aids coming and going all hours of the day and night when residents cannot be wearing the key constantly), I am happy to say that I trust they are there for Dad for the most important things. For example, when he did fall, help was there quickly after he pushed his call button. And, when he had surgery twice recently and needed a catheter for a few weeks, they were able to accommodate him. Amber Lights is a clean, modern and uplifting place with plenty of people who care. I don't regret the decision to have Dad move here at all and highly recommend it to anyone in need of a place ready to assist them. read more

Both of my parents could no longer live alone and my brother and I had the difficult task of finding an assisted living facility for them quickly. We didn't realize that places like Amberlights existed and we have been so grateful ever since. The staff that is very patient and upbeat. They were accomodating with my mother's constant mood swings and my father's cognitive decline. When my mother had to move to a different facility we were worried about my father living alone after 55 years of marriage. But the staff and residents at Amberlights was there to keep my father busy and he has his routines there. Everyone knows my father's name and the residents really look out for each other and care about each other. My father has been there almost three years now and we are so appreciative to the staff for their care and constant communication. As his cognitive decline continues to require more care by the staff, it is reassuring to know that he has competent and caring medical staff there to help with just a push of his emergency button. My brother and I are visit regularly and residents are cheerful and have lots of choices to keep them active and engaged. It is up to the residents how much help they want and how active they want to be. The place is well maintained, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff is amazing! read more

I do not recommend this facility for placing your relative in. While the lobby is beautiful and the food is very good they ate constantly understaffed. The wait time is very long to get the help to come to your apartment. When you are paying for assisted living you should not wait more than 10 minutes when you press the buzzer for help- people have waited 30-60 minutes. That is not acceptable. Also, they hire some very unsavory staff people- and there is theft in the apartments. I guess that most places are like this - owned by a big corporation! read more

My father, 96, and his wife, 90, have spent the last 16 months at Amber Lights. My father's health declined to the point that he needed assistance multiple times each day and throughout the night with all daily activities. He passed away two weeks ago in his apartment with his wife and family at his side. During the last three years that he and his wife spent in Tucson we have learned that there are very few facilities that can provide the level of support that Amber Lights was able to provide. The staff is caring, loving, respectful, and incredibly dedicated to the residents. I truly do not believe that it would be possible to find a better place for independent living and assisted living to the last stages of life. The staff is incredible. We have seen their loyalty and dedication to the best interests of their residents every time we visit which is on average 2 to 3 times each week. Not sure what is motivating the negative reviews of this residence. I encourage you to visit the dining hall and talk with the people who actually live there to get a true picture of the environment. It is pretty incredible to find this level of care and compassion for the elderly. read more

When you apply to Amber Lights, a medical assessment is done to decide if they can meet your needs. Our sister's needs are not hidden. In addition to diabetes and high blood pressure, she has heart failure causing edema and needs wound care. Amber Lights accepted her anyway. She paid to have the carpet replaced with tile because of concern about incontinence caused by the high doses of diuretics that she takes for the heart failure. She cannot pack and unpack, so she paid for movers to do that for her. After exactly three months, she went to the hospital for an infected wound and then had to go to a rehab center. Two and a half months later, the rehab said that she no longer needed specialized nursing, but Amber lights said that she could not return. They told us that it was because she needed care that was "beyond their medical licensure." We offered to bring in private nurses, but they still said "no". Our sister is not without fault. Evidently, she was demanding and difficult to work with. She was told by the doctor, by the rehab center and at least one Amber Lights staff member that was the real reason that they wouldn't let her return. During the months that she was not there, she paid for the basic rent, board and services. At the end, she was also charged for an additional month of level two assisted living services, because they said the contract required it. In spite of Covid19, they allowed movers to go in and remove her furniture and belongings. My advice is, "choose carefully". Consider whether there is any chance that your medical condition will require more than the most basic care because that is all that they claim to provide. If they can say that your needs are "beyond their licensure", they can kick you out without any notice. (Our sister's needs are now being well met at another assisted living facility that probably has the same license.) read more

If you wish for your loved one to live out their "Golden Years" in a filthy, corrupt, and neglected environment, then may I suggest Amber Lights? We placed our Father in this facility about a year and half ago. In the beginning, things appeared normal. Then, as his health declined, we began to notice the lack of care he was being provided by the staff. His diet, hygiene, personal security, and over mental state was obviously being ignored. During several unannounced visits we came upon my Father in fecal soiled clothing, smelling of urine, along with the horrific odor in his apartment, days of not being shaved or groomed and if that isn't enough, his last few days there, one of the staff members stole his wedding ring of 70 years which he wore everyday of his life until some cockroach took it. We contacted the staff on each of these cases which fell upon deaf ears and at best pathetic excuses. We filed a police report which may or may not materialize? Bottom line is this place should be shut down and every staff member fired! Whomever stole his ring will pay a far greater debt than the mere value of what they took. read more
