It's also right next to 'Leila by the Bay' restaurant. The playground is designed mostly for younger kids with the floor deck made from recycled rubber materials. It has a couple of toddler swings so definitely not for teenagers. We didn't have these kinds of playgrounds when I was growing up. It has three benches and three picnic tables with lots of grassy area. Depending on the time of day, the surrounding trees will provide some shade. I've taken my friends here during the pandemic just to get away from the pandemic madness while enjoying the outdoors while maintaining social distancing. The city of Hercules also does a good job of maintaining and cleaning this park, and the garbage bin is never full, which is a sign that it's being serviced in a timely manner. Best part of all, you can watch the Amtrak passenger trains and freight trains pass by on their scheduled routes. There's something hypnotizing about a train going by; no matter how many times I've seen it, you can't help but look and enjoy. It's definitely appropriately named Railroad Park.

One thing I found unusual was seeing so many feral peacocks ambling about as I wasn't sure if it was a common sight in the park. I guess peacocks like that old-timey vibe, too. It's a nice new playground, with interesting play structures and a nice cushioned ground. Clean bathrooms, water fountains. Unfortunately no shade in the late morning, which is our usual playground time. It looks like they've planted some trees so eventually that will change. Part of the playground is enclosed by a fence, I guess for the smaller kids. But my kids wanted to play in both areas and i found the fence annoying because the gate is on the side farthest from the unfenced section. (I would be in the fenced area with one kid and the other one would want help so I'd have to walk all the way around.) Obviously not a huge deal, but when I'm evaluating playgrounds I certainly think of parental comfort, and how easy it is to park myself in one spot and be able to see everything. Yes it's next to the highway, and there's plenty of traffic noise. But there wasn't any smell or fumes when we were there. We'll certainly continue to come here, most likely on the way to/from Target.

The lady ignored us and continued to fetch with her dogs. The other parent says a lot of neighborhood folks uses the toddler park as a dog park and sometimes she gets scared and won't bring the baby when she sees too many dogs. Come on, there is Point Isabel Dog Park less than 5 min away and Buchanan dog park also less than 5 min away. Please bring your dogs to a dog park and to not a clean children's park! Who do I talk to about this?

This park was conceived of and built by residents of the neighborhood, after a child was killed in the original park filled with drunks and drug addicts. A group of parents and citizens got together and gathered grant money and city permission, and volunteers from the community came out and physically designed and built the park by hand. The director of the non-profit project lives literally across the street, and comes out personally to watch over the park and the kids 4 days a week. This park represents an amazing amount of community cooperation and involvement for a neighborhood that has been plagued with poverty and violence since I was a little kid (and probably much earlier). All that said, there is still some of the cultural mindset that one would expect from the parents - yesterday when I went there with my kid, two groups of kids, (one Hispanic, one Black), ages ranging from around 7 to 11, were attempting to mediate a conflict over something that supposedly happened at the park last week by telling their stories to the caretakers of the Hispanic kids (two women who spoke limited English). Supposedly there was some name calling last week, that may or may not have escalated to one girl slapping another. At some point some (obviously not credible) threats of violence were exchanged, but absolutely no actual violence, physical contact, or even raised voices occured, but kids in both groups made comments about calling the police over it. Apparently one of them followed through, because a few minutes later the police actually arrived. The officers listened patiently to both parties version of the story, pointed out that all these things happened in the past and that neither side had been perfect, and asked all the kids in both groups if they could let it go and get along from here forward. All the kids in both groups said they could get along, and as the officers began to leave, the two groups actually did integrate and go back to playing. Then the parents of the kids who didn't already have caretakers present showed up... They IMMEDIATELY, without even having talked to the children, went up to the officers who were at their car talking to each other, and began yelling at them and insulting them, complaining that they officers had been "yelling at their children", and requesting names and badge numbers in order to file a complaint. The 3 parents all talked at once, over each other, nearly belligerent, their various complaints about police in general, and there purely imagined complaints about these officers in particular, who had come out and successfully resolved a conflict between elementary school students. All this had absolutely nothing to do with me, but I really didn't want my son to have to see this already resolved conflict become even bigger because of the parents prejudice against cops, so I intervened just to say that I had been there the whole time, and the cops did not takes sides or yell at anyone, and then proceeded to recount the whole story when I was asked follow up questions. The cops took that opportunity to disengage, one of the parents left again, but two others stayed around the entire rest of the time we were there, ranting to each other about cops and saying incomprehensible things to me like "this wouldn't happen if parents were here to watch their kids" and "parents shouldn't just unquestioningly take their kids side in a conflict just because its their kids" - um, those two things are literally exactly what you have been doing! The other group of kids had adult supervision with them, you were the parents who weren't here! The whole thing was a sad reminder of the overlooked part of race relations in our country, the cultural rut we as poor urban Black people can't seem to get out of, the assumptions and prejudices we make that ensure that every interaction with cops is negative and that make it hard for us to ever integrate into larger society. The fact that the director and other staff have to deal with people like this on a daily basis makes it more than understandable that they might come off as a little gruff at times, but the fact that she has undertaken this project at all shows how much she cares about the community and it's children.

Barbara and Jay Vincent Park in Richmond has abundant park space abutting the water. Walking paths through the park are smooth and there is abundant space to sit, be it on a grassy area or a bench. Each of my visits here has been via foot and I have found access to be a non-issue.

It's really a patch of green with a small beach and a walking trail around its perimeter on a promontory that juts out from Richmond's Inner Harbor on Marina Bay Parkway. What makes it unique is the naked visibility of the park which you can see from almost all points around the harbor (photo: https://bit.ly/2XuHS5F). With the playground facilities, picnic areas, and usable public restrooms, the space has been obviously designed for local families, but you can find old Yelpers here periodically for lack of alternative activities during a pandemic. Who for 45 years dedicated himself to the beautification of the town Crockett." A bocce ball court originally built for the City of Crockett as a gift from C&H. Lush green lawns, beautiful light fixtures and pretty well maintained. The isolated setting inside the "valley" can be a little creepy, but this is a nice quiet alternative to Alexander Park which gets quite busy.

I really like this small local park. It's the smaller of the 2 parks in town, and doesn't have any…read moreplayground structures BUT it has 2 bocce courts! The grass is always nice and well manicured, and we dog owners are careful to pick up after our pooches to keep it that way. I don't have a yard (like many apartment dwellers) so I really appreciate having a place I can take my dog where he can roll in the grass or just find a nice sunny spot to lie down. Don't count on the restroom there. It's always locked.
