I think they remind me of home, but I also think wood stoves generally add a cozy air to any home. Anyway, this explains why I have to gawk at them whenever I see them in store windows. Blackwood Stoves is a shop in Liscard Village that, as the name suggests, only sells stoves. For such a small shop they seem to offer a fairly good variety. But I do have to wonder how many they actually sell. I read somewhere that people who don't live in the woods who buy stoves often spend far more money having wood brought in to burn than they ever would have used using electric or gas heating. But I imagine they also sell other types of stoves here? Probably they do sell the conventional gas and electric ones, but they tend to stock ones that look old style, so they are cozy and cute all the same.

They repainted the walls and also replaced the chimney part. I have had to paint the outside of the oak doors and cill black gloss as the oil destroyed the finish.T the building regs have now condemned the fitting as the external pipework is incorrect - it needs to be double skin pipe, and Paul has promised many many times (when I have phoned him from different phone numbers!) to come and rectify the problem. I have said I will pay for any materials and I will even pay him labour, however, he does not arrive despite making arrangements. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY - AND IF YOU HAVE, HAVE THE FITTING CHECKED BY AN EXPERT - YOU COULD BE IN DANGER. I cannot use this appliance until it is properly fitted.

They worked not stop and had to sweep and put a cowl on the chimney. They even had a hoover for when they had finished. All in all it took them 6 hours to fit both fireplaces. Mooching around Rowfers I've come across jewellery, stripy tights, piercing, oil burners, candles, mirror balls, ornaments, bandannas, makeup, badges, studded belts, hair dye and incense. Luckily I'm thinking of throwing a stripy tight and bandannas party and don't have any electricity in my tree house. There's going to be a guess the smell competition where you get the chance to win a pair of really baggy trousers but the loser will have to wear a badge that says "I'm incensed."

If James B actually took time to look around the shop properly he might recognise two product ranges; 1) Alternative clothes and accessories. 2) Fairtrade crafts and home-wares. Thus the products James described, Jewellery, Stripy tights, piercing, bandannas, make-up, badges, studded belts and hair dye all fit into range (1) and perfectly compliment the large range of alternative clothing they primarily sell which james conveniantly omited from his review and causes the review to be inaccurate. Oil Burners, candles, mirror balls, ornaments and incense sit nicely next to their african wall masks, crystal balls, crystals and windchimes for product range (2). I wonder if James would be equally confused in TK-Max as they also sell both clothes/accessories and home-wares? Although i respect James has the right to review shops and express his opinions i just found his review lacked accuracy and was overladen with un-needed sarcasm. On the plus side i think Rowfers sells some great stuff, often hard to find in the high streets and theyre cheaper than the competition (even their rivals in afflecks such as Sohos and Extreme Largeness). The staff are always friendly and chatty without the hard-sell and the music in the shop is always weird and wonderful. On the down-side i'd say the stock is poorly lit, the location can be hard to find for those who aren't regulars to afflecks and often the sizes are a little on the small size. this might be ok for the hordes of teenagers who regularly flock to afflecks but for those of us with a middle aged spread- we need a bit of give!

I was shocked at Allerton's price, which was completely ridiculous. They were at least £5,000 more than four of the companies, who all priced roughly the same, even out-pricing Everest, which shocked me. They come out at almost £8,000 more than the others for replacing all the windows and doors. Based on these prices, I decided not to go ahead with them, as I don't think they can justify their prices, regardless how good they claim to be. They use Rehau windows, which a lot of companies use, so the only thing they can use for price justification, is their quality of installation.

We ordered our kitchen worktop through these chaps, some velux windows, kitchen appliances and all in all they're very very good. The only sad thing about them is that if we hadn't had the trade discount I would be saying that they were ridiculously overpriced and not worth it. Some of our discounts were up to 50%, which just goes to show that joe public might be just being ripped off! However they're off the beated track slightly which means they probably aren't targetting joe public and probably just thrive on the trade business. There is a handy car park just outside.
