We went to theater to see a matinee. The place has changed and doesn't have the large bar, pool table and independent movie side any longer. It was replaced with a jump activity place for young people, well really all ages. There is a bar area, however small. I was happy I pre-paid for tickets so we were able to go right to the ticket taker then onward to see the show. Decor is same as when it first opened, many pictures of stars and still has video - picture booth. Concessions: popcorn is great and concession staff is happy and helpful! I get the large popcorn so family can share, plus we get a refill which is nice. I have a movie member subscription so I was able to use my points for concession perks. Parking: parking is free if you validate your parking ticket. Theater is local and I will continue to attend and support this theater. read more

terrible. disappointing. We went through 2 hours- ticket purchase ritual, 3 times. Process timed OUT for our not agreeing to join some 'discount 'club'. Who joins a dishonest business? My wife and I have been coming here for almost 10 years. We are AMC Stubs members so we see several movies a month. We always get dinner before the movie in downtown Evanston and then we have popcorn, candy, and cocktails at the theater for dessert. Recently we were stopped by a security guard who told us we had to throw away our leftovers from Chili's or we could not come in. This has NEVER been an issue in almost a decade. We cancelled our stubs memberships and will not be returning until they fire this security guard and return to their regular practices. read more

Theater has gotten worse...1 star is for popcorn and good drink selection and that's it....The actual theater viewing experience is trash...Sound in theater one (biggest screen) is still too low and the seats are mostly broken...Screw this place and I'm never coming back...Seriously just close down again and make it permanent...lol read more

It's been years since I've been to the movie theater, and my husband and I used to go weekly to Cinemark...we live within walking distance and absolutely loved going to this theater (the Rhythm room for food and drinks, the large delicious popcorn - with *free* refill, all of the concession options, the affordable tickets, etc). Once we heard the news that Cinemark was leaving, I think we legitimately wept - it was a huge loss for us! Now, we finally decided to go back and see a movie after all these years with AMC taking over the spot - I will say, it's MUCH smaller without the additional screens that Cinemark used to have on the 'arts' side over by where the Rhythm room used to be. Tickets are of course more expensive, as are the concessions. A large popcorn is smaller than it was when Cinemark owned the space, and not an option for refills that I could see (for the average movie-goer that isn't a member of any club). Gone are the 'special' concessions that Cinemark had such as the candy tubs, hot food, ice cream and cookies. However, I do enjoy their digital fountain beverage machines with endless options - those are pretty neat! When we were looking for our theater, the digital displays were either not used any longer or not working, so we had no idea where our movie was actually playing (and it wasn't listed on our tickets either), so I needed to walk back out to the concessions area to ask one of the (only few) employees which theater my movie was playing in. Now I will say, all employees I encountered were very nice and pleasant - I am just so nostalgic for what the movies 'used' to be. I felt very sad when my excellent movie was only patronized by a handful of people on a Saturday night opening weekend during the summer! It's a little bit run down, and there are a few other problems, but it is overall a solid theatre. We went here because there were few options nearby, since the film was a limited release. Still, it was a good experience (though largely because the movie was so good!). I couldn't resist the infinite options of the Freestyle machine, so I forked over $6 for a small drink (it is refillable though). The interior is not very modern or updated, but it's not as decrepit as other AMCs, so there's that! The theatre itself was way too loud. I am OK with some loudness so everyone can hear, but this was just a touch too ear-numbing. Oddly enough, there were times when the theatre smelled gross, like moldy cheese. That didn't last long, so maybe someone brought in something and ate it right away. They really don't check outside food/bev here, because the woman a few seats down from me had brown liquid in her Coke bottle, and it did not in any way smell like a regular soda ;) read more

Nothing particularly wrong with the the theater, but recently went to a movie with a start time of 7:10 - however, the movie didn't actually start until 7:38. We had to endure almost 30 minutes of previews and AMC ads. This is ridiculous, and one of the many reasons few people go out to the movies anymore. read more

Prices for food was average for a movie theater, no surprise. The seats are designed for functionality only, no comfort and luxury chairs in this place to enhance your overall cinematic experience. Bathroom needs updating but usable. read more

The theater managed to preserve some of the original wallpaper and design from its predecessor, which is commendable. However, AMC theaters leave much to be desired. The concession stand only offered popcorn, drink cups, and candy--no hot food which seemed to be "sold out". The bar was unmanned, yet the prices are exorbitant. I previously mentioned that the renovated theaters had nice seats. Unfortunately, on our recent visit, it was evident that they don't last long. Some seats had tears, and the theater was not properly cleaned. We went to see Inside Out 2, and there was garbage left in the theater. One of the seats had a broken armrest, which I nearly spilled my drink on. Additionally, the theater reeked of vomit or something similarly unpleasant. It's really disappointing to see AMC neglecting a much-loved theater. The predecessors did a far better job. read more

So me and my friend are 16 years old and we went at 7:30 to see Moana 2 which is a PG movie. We go there and they ask for our age and we truthfully told them and they denied us going in and then told me that we cannot get a refund because my boyfriend paid for the tickets with Apple Pay. They said that they can give him a gift card but with less money on it because it costs money to make the gift card. I told the manager that the curfew for teenagers is 11:00 in Evanston which is true. This place sucks, don't go here read more

$20 for a tuesday matinee is a horrible price. To add salt to the wound they advertise it as "UP TO 20% OFF". This location does not employ anybody to sell you a movie ticket in person. Either use their IPAD or download their APP. Just spend your money with Cinemark where matinees are $6 max. And they have real life himan employees. Back when the NUN was out in theatres there was a woman who attended a screening of that at this Evanston AMC and two mice jumped into her purse, and i have really never looked at this theatre the same since then. The recent subtraction of human employees really bothers me tho. Its like AMC wants Netflix and Cinemark to dominate. read more

We have been going to this theater since it opened ~20 yrs ago. We want it to succeed to support our community. But, it's a mess. Just left a movie and got a refund because people were on their phones in front of us while the movie was playing. We asked for help. A staff member was great, sat in the theater to witness the phone use. As we departed and got our refund, the manager scolded us, reporting that there are special permissions that allow some people to keep their phones on. (WTF?) The theater needs to tell people that they may have to tolerate jerks with phones on.... and provide a quick path to refund. We live just a few blocks away, but we will never return. Skokie AMC, Wilmette theater, Skokie Theater are just short drives. Buh Bye Evanston AMC. read more

People are so harsh with their reviews of this place. Yes, it was closed for about two years and re-opened as an AMC. Good thing AMC bought it, I think people should show this theaer a lot of support. It is big, has 12 screens , is clean, has self-purchasing stations to buy tix. NO cashiers anymore. When they first opened as AMC they had cashiers to sell tix. Now they sell beer and wine as well. The movies they choose I hope will continually get better. Perhaps after Summer and all the kid friendly Super hero type movies and kid related mainstream flix it will get better movies booked in. But overall give it a chance. read more

This movie theater, compared to other movie theaters in the area, falls short. My two biggest gripes are its inability to stay clean. the restrooms stay nasty (at least the women's) and the food counters stay nasty. I hadn't given them my business in a while and unfortunately won't again. We arrive to see Wicked's 2:45 showing at 2:45. Friend goes to get seats and I que for snacks. Snack counter is messy... order two small drinks and a small popcorn. $20 bucks. ask for popcorn to be filled half way so I can add butter... np. Butter area a hot mess popcorn everywhere and slippery gross. mind you the workers can literally reach the area with a cleaning cloth from behind the counter. ... moving on, I ask for a tray. they hand me this flimsy 1/2 cardboard box (can already see/feel the inadequate stability so I ask for the carrier with the cup stabilizers...they don't have those anymore...okay so off to the drink fountain. wow area is totally nasty... not messy... nasty... cant put the box down bcuz every spot is wet. okay! so one cherry/vanilla coke (that's what the button said) and one diet coke, cap em off and then to #4 I go...halfway there ... a soda falls over and spills in the flimsy holder... so back to the counter to start again. repeat at the nasty soda counter, mention to the mngr the area is nasty. Her reply is that it is busy and they'll clean after the rush. I refill and back to #4. Get to seats... movie is starting and both sodas taste like yuck with soda water. Movie starts. so back to the freaking nasty counter! mention to the the issue to the manager, who then goes to get another manager. Only two people in line and 5 workers behind the counter. Up comes mnger #2 to apologize and talks like I don't know that the machine is malfunctioning because the syrup bags behind them are empty and need to be refilled... she something about machine needs fixing (miraculously they are "fixed" on our way out cuz the petty in me tested it). This is called lazy/incompetent. Theaters make a good portion of the $ off food sales... you'd think if nothing else.... Funny how the lines are long at Old Orchard but their snack area is not a hot mess and the women's toilets aren't all covered with urine. Same goes for Lincolnwood. Evanston AMC needs to get their crap together. I can walk to Evanston AMC but would rather drive to another. Clearly they want to be back out of busines. read more

We had looked forward to first theater visit after pandemic and to enjoy the film Oppenheimer. To our dismay, the low bass/subwoofer level sound engineering was _brutally_ loud. Spent much of the 3 hours with fingers plugged into ears. Saw other friends afterwards and, unprompted, they had the same reaction to the harsh, inappropriate bass volume. Good movie ruined by the theater's bad sound choices. We won't subject ourselves to that again. read more

They are still remodeling this venue. I am not sure that they really did much other than getting rid of the indie side theaters. We like the neighborhood around this theater and the free parking in the structure with a validated ticket. read more

The experience was disappointing. The entrance to the theater is chaotic and customer service is very poor. The concessions were really trying to keep up but not staffed well. Broken kiosks and drink machines in a "new" theater. The seating in the theaters are cramped and you have no legroom. Over all not well kept. Bathroom was a mess. Glad the movies are back in Evanston BUT very disappointing! Ticket line is a mess even when short. If you bought online you may or may not get thru quicker and you've paid extra bucks ... for what? And you're not told which door is for your movie ... AND there's NO signage on any door to help you figure it out! The No updated look... same old, including ripped Plus the movie theater I was in yesterday totally smelled like MOLD! So glad I had my mask; bring one. This place was closed for renovation for like 2 years. I just saw my first movie there and it looks no different. I had hoped that the renovation would involve better seating. Also 1 beer and 1 glass of wine was $45. Anybody who falls for that will only do it once and the place will be bankrupt again before you know it. read more

Maybe the worst experience at a theatre ever. Apparently AMC bought this theatre post-Covid & they've made some horrendous changes. Cut the theatre in 1/2 (thus shutting down the nice bar/lounge where you used to be able to get a bite and a cocktail pre or post movie), the bar that is there didn't have a bartender til 5 pm & thus could only serve beer & wine, the bottle of Miller lite was $18, a 6 ounce pour of Kim Crawford wine was $20.50 (these are not typos), the "large" popcorn is significantly smaller than any other theatre I've been to. Then we sat thru 25 minutes of previews. Worst. Ever. Will not be back. read more

Like so many Evanstonians, I had high hopes & expectations when AMC took over the Century movie theaters. I've been to other AMC venues and was impressed by their accommodations. Sadly, AMC dashed all hopes & reset expectations as low as they can go. AMC has restyled the venue into a pared-down set of shabby theaters. It's as if AMC took a look at the space, said to themselves "It could be worse," then made it so. Maybe AMC still plans to improve the space. Maybe it's been difficult for them to obtain supplies for renovation. Or maybe not. Whatever the reasons, I don't plan to return. There are nicer movie venues in the area if you're willing to drive a bit further from the depressing & expanding blandness of downtown Evanston. read more

I'm glad to have a movie theatre back after two years of Century closing but I honestly don't know why it took this long to reopen considering nothing has changed other than the theaters that showed the indie movies is gone. I am not a fan of choosing your seats when you purchase your tickets. It's just a recipe for disaster. What has AMC been doing all this time? They put down new carpet in the lobby and moved the ticketing area to inside the concession area which, honestly, looks like something that was thought of last minute and thrown together. The part that seems truly lazy is not even getting a new sign. The old Century sign is still up and AMC is typed on paper and taped on the door. What kind of mess is that?! I know they are still in the process of working on the theatre but AMC took over well over a year ago. It's just disappointing that they don't seem to have put much effort into the remodeling. read more
