In the mood for a movie on a rainy afternoon, my wife hesitantly agreed to see Alien Romulus. Not many people out easy check in. Since this was early afternoon, we decided on a Popcorn lunch, so got a bucket and large drink. Theater was very clean well organized, staff was very friendly and helpful. We made our way to our seats to clean and very comfortable padded and adjustable seats that in all or most AMCs. Ahhhhh. After the inevitable series of coming attractions, our movie started. We were expecting a lot of sudden surprise moments from Ridley but we were disappointed. A bit of a lame episode in the Alien Franchise. But theatre was great, cool but not cold, sound up a bit but not too loud. On the way out, the restrooms were spotless. A very pleasant experience. We thought for sure our GPS was off because the theater is way in back of mall shops. read more

The snack bar hasn't re-stocked their premium-priced caramel corn in four weeks and the center soft drink machine has been out of flavored Coke Zero for at least three weeks. Went well, almost gave up on AMC's with a few bad experiences. Previously AC broke, amongst other things failing to make my experience enjoyable, but from that incident I got two free tickets out of it, so decided to go see "The Fall Guy." Vibes were much better at this AMC, great hosts, and cleanliness wasn't a concern. And oh yeah, the AC was functioning. read more

I really enjoy the reclining, heated seats and clean restrooms. I loved the surround sound and the movie! On the other hand, we weren't told the lobby closed at 8:15 pm when our movie ran over past 9:15pm. I wasn't able to get the refills in snacks and drinks that I paid for, and I was given a hard time when I didn't know that. I don't agree with the lobby closing so soon, and it's amenities not being accessible. I would've been more understanding if we were informed in advance by the staff of the lobby closing time. Whoa! This place has seriously revamped since I was there last and it's so awesome! I was shocked to walk in the doors and see the light-filled, clean new lobby. To the left are the concessions and tickets and to the right is the bar. The snack options are great. They have snap pea crisps, flavored popcorn (we tried the caramel apple), and lots of food choices such as nachos, sliders, chicken wings, etc. And the bar! So so exciting that they have a bar now. The bar is legit too, it has a full liquor bar with a super fun cocktail menu. The cocktails are about $10 which is typical for Asheville if you want a complex drink. When we went into our theatre, I was shocked to see that the new seats are large and the theatre is not overpacked, it's actually super spacious with plenty of room between rows. The seats recline and are heated. What! I've never seen heated seats before at a theatre. There are some other Yelpers complaining about having to wait in the concession line to get your tickets (even if you ordered them online ahead of time) and I agree that this is a problem, but regardless, I had a super awesome time here and can't wait to go see another movie here! read more

Oh my, we just stumbled on this movie theater because another theater was sold out. I bought my tickets on line, thinking one movie theater is like another. I was wrong, this theater was awful. While I bought my tickets through Fandango, I was supposed to exchange them at the box office yet no one was at the box office or anywhere to collect them, instead we walked right in to our theater. When we walked in, there were two people on staff, one who was behind the counter and one sweeping up. I think they needed more sweepers, as there was popcorn everywhere, near the drink machines, in the bathroom - everywhere. Plus, not only was one drinking fountain out, three in a row were out. I thought I was in the twilight zone, as this place looked like it was bankrupt or closing son. Not a stellar outing, even several of the previews were in pink hues, which I am not sure you can do if you tried. But it just added to the question - what is going on here? read more

I went to theater at 11:45 to purchase tickets for a later showing. The theater was supposed to open at eleven o'clock, The front doors were open but no one was in the lobby. I knocked on an office door and an assistant said the lobby was not open, and he could not tell me when it would be open. read more

I love this place! I go here every time I want to watch a movie. The staff are always friendly. The popcorn is fantastic, and they even have a butter station so you can decide how much you want to slather on. The theaters are clean and updated; comfy reclining chairs, with heated seats, and even a removable armrest so you can snuggle up with your honey. 10/10. Will be seeing every movie here as long as I live in AVL. read more

I've been an AMC stubs unlimited member for almost ten years (in several states), and this craphole is the Worst AMC I've ever encountered. Every single time I go here, there are always *recurring problems*: * Ticketing Issue: You can't use the App to get into the screens, even though the freakin' AMC APP states that you can SHOW YOUR DIGITAL TICKET FOR ENTRY. They don't have self-service machines, so you have to go to the concessions counter and read out a confirmation number to get a paper ticket. This usually means waiting 10-15 mins in line while the painfully slow Gen Z wasters who work there take forever to serve people. No hustle whatsoever, just the typical "I only work here" mentality, and they don't give a toss if your movie starts in two minutes. SLOW AF. This is what it was like back in the '90s, yet in 2023, we're still having to line up to get a paper ticket? Pathetic. * Most times, they forget to dim the lights when the movie comes on (!), which means someone has to get up, go out to the lobby (usually me), and remind these idiots to dim the lights while missing the first 5-10 mins of the movie. In addition, the "Fire Exit" signs are so bright that there's a constant red glow on the screen. * Worst of all, the SOUND SYSTEM SUCKS. The volume level is way too low, and sometimes, the surround sound speakers on the side of the cinema don't even work. It's f***king ridiculous. Last night, for example, I attempted to go and see SAW X. Sitting through the trailers, the sound was lower than my TV at home, and immediately, I knew the same old problems were happening again. When the movie came on, it was stupidly quiet, with no surround sound. Movies are SUPPOSED TO BE LOUD AND IMMERSIVE, and it's not unreasonable to expect a cinema chain like AMC to deliver good sound. I left the screening and told the alleged "manager" about the sound issue. This snot-nosed fool acted like dealing with this issue was a major imposition. He came to check it out and claimed it was at the "highest level he was allowed to have it at," even though he agreed that it was really quiet. Total BS. I left soon after -- another ruined experience. I've been to every cinema in Asheville, including Regal and Cinemark, and they're all 5X louder than this dump. Movie directors and studios should be concerned because AMC is ruining the theatergoing experience, leading to even more people deciding not to go to the movies. When I got home, I canceled my AMC Stubs Unlimited subscription and signed up for Regal Unlimited instead. It's further away, but f**k it; at least I know I'll get top-quality sound without lights shining on the screen. I'm just one person, and the fools at this AMC won't care; however, AMC's stock price is in the toilet, and they're hovering on the verge of going out of business. Well, I hope they crash and burn. If you can't be bothered to make an effort to preserve the integrity of the theater experience (not just what I've described, but refusing to monitor screenings for idiots on phones, talking too loud, vaping, etc.), then you deserve to go out of business. Screw you, AMC -- you lost my wife and me as customers FOR LIFE. read more

Went to see a movie at the Asheville AMC and preordered tickets thru Fandango. I order them previous to going to the movies to avoid standing in line. I didn't think it would be too crowded, and I was correct. There were us and maybe 7 other parties in the theater. The one benefit to buying tickets before going was getting to pick seats before going. That is always a huge plus. When we got there, we had to stand in line at the refreshment counter to get our tickets, cause they don't have the scanner to scan in our Fandango purchase. (Which defeats the purpose of buying them in advance). They do however have a AMC vip line, so lucky you if you are a member of that. Cause there was no one in that line.... We got our tickets printed and got some refreshments, (since we were already in the line) $18 for a small popcorn, bag of Snickers and a small soda. Then, we headed into see the movie. The movie theater has nice, big, comfy, heated, reclining, leather chairs. They were spaced out and you had plenty of room, it definitely didn't feel like you were cramped in there. The staff was friendly, prices were not bad, (in a popcorn, soda and candy should cost $5, but here you are gonna pay $20 because your at the movies, type of way) and they kept the theater a good temperature. Not freezing. Not burning up. It was very pleasant. read more

Yikes. When this first opened in Asheville in the mid-90s (I think '96), it was the best theater in the area. The Hollywood in South Asheville (now the Carolina/Cinemark) was always too crowded and the screens/sound were the worst you could find in a movie theater. Carmike offered their larger curved screens, THX sound and way more comfortable seats than Beaucatcher or Hollywood. Not anymore. This run-down shack of a place is a far cry from the theater at which I first saw many of my favorite movies (and could run to Circuit City after and by the score if the music was good...). Now you have over-blown speakers that couldn't get THX certification if they tried, messed up screens with tape covering holes and seats that are far beyond need of being replaced. They staff is remarkably nice for what must be horrible work conditions. I can't remember the last time I bought a ticket at the window - now you get them inside at the concessions stand in the same long line with people waiting to get $8 bags of stale popcorn. Oh - and the last time I saw a movie here (December 2016) the power went out in the theater and the movie was started again from the beginning of the trailers. This place makes me want to wait for a digital release and watch at home if I have no other options to catch a movie in town. read more

Theaters and studios are in partnership but with Covic 19 streaming services and wonder woman 1984 and justice justice league extended version and door dash and having your groceries delivered and so on the game has changed. There's only gonna be about one theater per county what's the next five years they are going to go away like blockbuster RadioShack or many many restaurants, 1984 proved how do you streaming services can make a lot of money on a movie that everybody wants to see , & The 4 hour justice league shows people a better movie higher quality and convenience at home with a76" TV ( do you realize there is a five hour version of Kong versus Godzilla)!!! We go out to dinner and to the movies for the experience nothing more this theater simply sucks, No food in the food for stale popcorn they didn't even bother putting on the butter like I asked and gave me a cup and say get your own drink. Oh and it cost me $20!! WTF?? Bathrooms had mold on the floor no toilet paper no soap and had not been replaced and God knows how long. Don't be fooled by the recliners. This is the worst theater I have ever been too. You have to buy the tickets at the food counter. We were right on time to see our movie and has to wait to get tickets behind people ordering food. Then after we get to the counter the lady left and just started making food for other customers completely ignoring us. The other cashier (of only 2) proceeded to skip right over us and to the next person! It was insane. We get in the movie and the lights are left on for the first 30 minutes of the movie. Went to the movies today and as we walked in there was one employee behind the counter and two lines one was a preferred line and the other was a regular line everyone from the preferred line went first and the one person behind the counter was having his first day A second person came and fixed food for people in the preferred line and we still had not gotten our tickets A third person came up and the line started to move with more preferred customers coming in the door the other line which I was in never moved. We were the first couple in the regular line and stood there for over twenty minutes. What a screwed up place. I will never be going back there. I'm sure that at one point this was a nice theater, I imagine that once, kids running through the lobby to see the latest animated action flick with zeal, but now there's a general feeling of blah. I come here often, but I do so begrudgingly. Often, I simply don't have the time to dedicate an hour or so commute to one of the nicer theaters in Asheville. Thus, I'm forced to patronize the Carmike. I sigh and think to myself, maybe this time will be different. In a world (get it?) where stadium seating, super bright projectors, and ass rumbling sound is now the norm, this theater has yet to catch up. The Carmike Ten reminds me of a public school that had its funding drastically cut. I'm sure that its sales started to wane and then the Carmike family of theaters decided to put there interests elsewhere, leaving this theater in stasis, caught in a time loop in 1999 rather than updating it in some manner. They seem to be cutting employees too. I can't remember the last time I bought a ticket at the box office. Now the concessions people sell you the tickets, once they're done vending concessions to whomever may be in front of you. Oh, is it that guy that wants an extra large tub of pop corn, nachos, a pretzel that has to be microwaved for 90 seconds, and some hot dog bites? Yeah... well... get ready to wait. It's especially fun when everyone gets to wait for the microwave to ding in a resounding sound of completion. Why not ring up Sir Eatsalot while that pretzel is reheating rather than have everyone stand silently as if they're posing for the worst still life painting ever.... Once you actually make it to your theater you have a good chance of being treated to some sort of lovely technical problem based on what time of the month it is and when the last time their staff serviced the theater. Thus far I've experienced Inception with one of the center channels completely out, Guardians of the Galaxy with the 3D depth of field COMPLETELY off, and Planet of the Apes in a theater that smelled like a YMCA locker room. This place needs love, it needs funds, it needs care. I just wish that Carmike loved this theater as much as I love movies and not driving for an hour. read more

The movie theater selection in Asheville is quite lacking. Carmike does a serviceable job, splitting the new releases with the Beaucatcher down the road. I prefer Carmike just because it is off a bit from the busy Tunnel Road and has a more exclusive feel to it. You are not going to find stadium seating. The concessions are rather ho-hum. The building is old and a bit dirty. The screens are on the small side and the sound system is average. But for subtle and not-so-subtle reasons, Carmike still has an edge on Beaucatcher and Regal out to the east. The Regal is further away from downtown, it has a wider selection... but the sound system is TERRIBLE! Carmike is the best average stop for mainstream movies in Asheville currently. read more

Theater was maybe 45° inside. Went and spoke with the manager and he said he couldn't do anything about the temperature inside the theater and that it was set by corporate. Everyone in the theater was freezing and miserable. Would not come see a movie here again. Went for a 7:30 showing and it started playing commercials at 8:12. As a non-movie goer due to being as Greedo with funds as possible, I am not jaded in the galaxy of Outer Rim movie attendance. Hence, you get details that only C-3PO would notice. My husband convinced me to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" because he does not want to shepherd girls to the girls' bathroom, like Jawas have to do with faulty droids going towards sandcrawlers. O.K., so this place is tucked behind Target, which surprised me. It is hidden like Darth Vadar's face. Doors do not open with a Jedi's gesture. They should at least be propped open by Jabba. Paying is confusing. The ticket booth is not staffed, and you have to concentrate to to find out if the snack area is where tickets are sold. Or just stand in line and ask. It is. They do not accept Republic or Imperial credit, wupiupi, or nova crystals. Only cash or AT-AT parts. I did not have to use a mind trick on anybody to convince them that I had no outside snacks with me. Have your pockets ready. I was even able to carry in in full view a Dr. Pepper bottle that was filled with water. Yes, water. Sheesh. Not Alderaanian ale. One popcorn will set you back eight portions. Skip it. Tickets were $34.00 for two adults (one sized like a Tusken Raider; the other Zutton-sized), one preteen about the size of Senni Tonnika, and one brat-kid, about the size of Kabe. Midafternoon with two suns. Chairs were not grimy. Floor was not sticky. KT-18 is doing her job. George Lucas and friends did a fine job of bringing THX Ltd. to us all...I covered my ears several times. Either it is set too loud, or it is just me. Anyway, if R2 is sitting next to you, you will not be able to hear his chirps, whistles, sighs, or his scream if he gets hit in the ass with a blaster. The previews: "It's a trap!" I have never seen a full half hour of previews before a movie. They were a mini-movie. There was even a commercial for this Carmike involving Coke and true love. I announced that falling in love never happens that way. (It only happens when you bust on Wookiees in front of your crush, who happens to be said Wookiee's best friend.) I was getting impatient. The bathrooms are O.K.. Cleaner than the Mos Eisley Cantina's, worse than an Ewok's stump-toilet. Yeah- the Force I use. When I'm not bounty hunting. read more

Be warned, this theatre is small and outdated but it offers a decent product. If you know what you are going into, you'll be able to appreciate what you do get out of the experience. What I like: -The arcade machine in the lobby -The seclusion off the road of the building itself -That my bf and I were given 4 free movies passes after the original movie we wanted to see wouldn't play (and we had no problems on our subsequent visits). -The straight forward way the staff handled the situation on that particular night (they didn't try to give excuses and after two attempts to replay, they refunded everyone and apologized. Easy peasy). What I Do NOT like: -The place is small (3 columns of seating, small screens with average sound) and yet ticket prices are the same that I would pay elsewhere while getting a better experience. -Concessions are subpar and pricey but that's most places. I prefer the larger types of theaters with food, pool, beer and a highly enthused vibe which Asheville (as magical as this city I proudly call home is) doesn't seem to offer anywhere. But for a quiet evening out to simply see a new movie and not have to be at home, then sure why not give them a try? read more

Omg, I can't Believe how great this theater is now that they've finally renovated it! When I 1st moved to Asheville 2 years ago I went to this theater, closest to my house, and it reminded me of something from the 1990s. When they began to renovate it this past fall, I thought, finally, but now this is not just nice it, actually compares with the best! Seats are roomy, reclining, heated, and the sound and viewing are great too. I feel like I'm in a private media suite in some wealthy person's home. Awesome! read more

Caught the 2:45 showing of "News of the World " on Christmas Day. While it was about 19° outside, at least we were able to spend 2 hours in a balmy 45° theater. The $15 dollar tub of popcorn was so salty it was inedible. When we asked for some fresh, less salty popcorn we were told that it is the "company mandated" amount of salt. We won't trouble them with our business again. read more

Decent theatre, the cinema room was clean, chairs were big enough for a larger person to set ,comfortably in. The concessions were a bit expensive, but that's to be expected with any movie theatre. They have a large popcorn bucket for $19 and you can get it refilled for only $3.50 each time, and it's good for the rest of the year. I'd say that's a pretty good deal for those who may frequent here. We opted to skip the concessions, and go straight to the movie. It started a bit late, but that was due to all the previews before hard. The picture and sound quality were what you may expect from any theatre, so no complaints. The movie we seen sucked (Scary Movie 5) but that is not the fault of the theatre at all. Catch the Matinee pricing from 4-5:30 every day, adult tickets are only $5.50 each, aside from the normal $10. Overall a nice theatre and we plan to return soon. read more

One of the worst movie theaters I've been in. Looking at the other reviews, it appears this has been going on for a while, kind of unbelievable that the place is still open, it has the air of a business about to go under. Understaffed, (the concessions people sell the movie tickets and it appears no one cleans the place), $8 for a medium bag of popcorn, damp, slippery floors in the theater, old screen with lines on it, and unbelievably dirty bathrooms. A really obnoxious cell phone warning accompanied by loud, bad music, flashed at us for 15 minutes before the film started (15 minutes late, after one of us went and complained). At least they cut out the ads for us. And there was lots of parking, because I guess other Ashevilleans know this theater sucks. We won't be back. read more

Do not buy online tickets. They do not show you the convenience fees until AFTER you've paid. They do not send you a scannable ticket, so you'll have to wait online to get a ticket anyway . They don't even have a ticket line, so you'll have to do that waiting on line at the concession stand with people buying food in addition to tickets. In addition, I purchased a ticket for a 3D film, but got to the cinema and they had no 3D glasses. The manager there (Sage West) asked if I wanted to change to the 2D movie or get a FULL refund. I took the refund but it was not a FULL refund as the online "convenience" fee was not included. The manager stated he could not refund the "convenience" fee as it is an online thing. Said I'd have to call AMC, but there are NO PHONE NUMBERS on the AMC website. He took my receipt and all he could give me was a note saying "no 3D glasses" to try and get these fees back from AMC. Why should anyone pay a convenience fee for all this aggravation? First time at this theater and I won't be back to any AMC if this is how they do business now. understand now why AMC's on the verge of going under. Haven't had these issues at either the Regal or Cinemark in Asheville. In the long run I had to dispute the charge on my CC to get the full refund. read more
