Been trying for a month to cancel this policy and the company will not follow through with the paperwork needed to do so. I am tired of the badgering and pressure to give up names and phone numbers every time they call and also tired of having to have a once a year Zoom meeting just to be told the policy is the same. I had this Insurance for about 3 years, my husband hasn't been working and AIL includes a laid off waiver for 3 months....so basically we qualified for 3 months paid premiums. Which I think is so awesome....what isn't awesome, is the fact that they cut me and my husband off with no warning and no communication after the 3 months was up. When I tried to get help customer service was rude and treated me like crap. So 3 years of paying almost $300 a month down the drain, we are left with no Life Insurance and anxieties thinking about the well-being of my children. They make nice to get you to buy Insurance but forget about your existence once your a customer. Don't waste your monies on this company. read more

We received an offer from our Union for AIL and trusted them. After realizing our benefits weren't much compared to the amount we were paying for the past 10 yrs or so, I decided to cancel our policy. Each time I called, I was placed on hold for 20-45 minutes at a time. Unless you'd like to start or upgrade your policy, they won't take your call right away. Years after we've cancelled, we are still getting harassing phone calls and texts from different people in the company to restart our policies. Our personal information is not safe with this company. I feel our Union sold us out! Be careful when filling out these benefits cards. read more

Long story short, there are better ways to invest for crazy thunderstorms. Our business will be moving to a different provider and a different long-term savings' strategy. 1.5 overall stars. As a client, when it comes to insurance, I think... Terms. Advisory. Clarity. Service. Compassion. Ease of access to client representatives. Ease of claim process. Ease in cancelling or making changes to one's policy. Of the 5 people I spoke to in the last month, 4 did not exhibit the above characteristics. After 25 years of holding a policy with the overarching company, you would think service might be better, but after a recent call and a review of the calls/interactions over the past 2.5 years with this company, we are disappointed. While the parent company should receive 1-star, the local company, I'm sure deserves stars for treating its employees well, which is what some of the reviews are and good for them here in Hawaii. This Paa Street location is where my family has come and folks are kind (+1 star). For the amount of paperwork, the way the policy is structured and the grandfathered savings plan benefit, all sounds like a very nice comprehensive package. However, sales of insurance versus actually being able to fulfill a policy when it is needed is important, too. I may be spoiled by Mainland insurance companies, but if you need active insurance advisory/periodic check-ins, you are a drinker or smoker, think you're going to have any kind of cancer, or need a dashboard-app or navigable site to manage your insurance, you may want to either define your needs and boundaries clearly with your insurance contact at AIL plus put up with paper-management, put reminders in your calendar and take initiative with local and main-office representatives, or seek another insurer. read more

So, where to start. I first learned of American Income Life when i recieved a call from someone claiming that they had seen my parents. At first i was a little skeptical and also confused because my parents don't always know what is going on. The person on the phone said i was being sponsored to recieve union benefits, but i am not in the union. The representative said that he would explain when he arrives, so we scheduled an appointment. When we met he introduced himself and told me he sat down with my parents to deliver their union benefits and had told me that since my father is in the union, he was able to sponsor me to recieve the same benefits. They gave me a bunch of free stuff in the beginning, they even said something about having to qualify for exclusive benefits. They started explaining all the things that could happen to me and i realized that even though i have insurance through work that it won't be there after i retire or when i decide to leave my job. The representative was very informative and it made a lot of sense. The insurance that he showed me was actually pretty good for the price they were asking. The only reason i didn't buy anything is because i am currently working on renovating my house, however i scheduled another appointment a couple months down the road. Hopefully i remember lol. The representative was very helpful and even allowed me to sponsor a few of my close friends to receive more free stuff. I just recently looked them up online and actually was surprised to find so many bad reviews, i'm guessing that not everyone had the same experience as me. My rep was very nice and i didn't feel pressured or pushed to make any decisions. I hope that many of the other people that had pleasant expriences to post something nice about your representative. The only bad thing is that i wanted him to go see my uncle on the mainland but he said that unfortunately he would have to have another rep on the mainland see him. read more

I would have given them a no star rating.... So we were called by an agent stating that they needed to meet with us. The agent said our parents job/ union allows them to extend benefits to us which was a free $2000 insurance policy. Then he did his speech about accidental life insurance and sold it really well and so we thought we were getting a really great deal. The next day of course we had some questions so of course we called and then they start pulling the BS and there was so many parts of the policy that was told to us wrong and about not being able to cancel the policy because its being processed so I asked if our rates can be lowered and he said no... All disappointed I hung up and did some research... Then I find out here in Hawaii and some other states there is a "free look" period where we are allowed to cancel the policy without any fees as long as it is done within a certain amount of days from the delivery of the policy so I call back and state how do I go about canceling this policy. Then he's tells me I have to call the mainland so I ask for the number and he tells me he doesn't have it.... What bull crap. Find another insurance company because they are surely not here for their customers and seem really sketchy... If they hassle you report it to the insurance commission. read more

I would leave 0 stars if I could. This is the worst company ever. I met with one employee because he was a family friend's husband and my husband's union recommended them. Big mistake... the initial signing up wasn't too bad - the guy could talk. So we signed up with 2 cancer policies and 2 life insurance policies. Ok so move on to a few months later... some lady calls to see how it's going and to say they have a special so we should add on blah blah blah for a low price. Okay so I say okay because I was young and starting a family so I wanted to ensure we had insurance. Well boy did they take advantage of that. A few months later another person calls and asks more questions... at this point I'm getting annoyed because so many different people are calling me. They also had my wrong cell number because the initial guy wrote it wrong.. so they were calling my parents house phone (we didn't have a land line yet at my house). Fast forward a few years and a bunch of calls from different people later... I decided to get a new plan from a different company. So I try to cancel. The initial guy left the company so I didn't know who to call... I called the corporate and canceled my life and cancer and the lady gave me such a hard time canceling telling me that I won't have insurance (even though I purchased a new plan) saying my new plan doesn't take into effect yet (even though she didn't even know what plan i had and with who) and she goes on to tell me that if I die or my husband we will be left without any insurance. Just further pissing me off. So eventually she says I have to sign something and then mail it so I tell her cancel it and send me the papers. So, I can't cancel my husbands so he has to go through that same crap a few days later. Turns out they didn't cancel his cancer plan like I though (only his life plan) so a few months later I decide to just leave it. It's only like $8 or so a month. A few months later... another person calls to go over our plan with them. I tell him I'm not interested and ignore his calls. A few months later... a lady calls my husband. Now I'm so pissed because so many different agents are trying to schedule a meeting to go over our plan. I have my husband cancel his cancer plan. It's just so annoying having so many people call over and over. So I think that it is all done and over with right?! WRONG! Another person calls November 2017 and tells my husband that we need to meet to talk about our plans. Wait wait wait... didn't I cancel this crap?!? He sets an appointment and tells me he did... I have no idea why he does... well I call her back and tell her to stop calling us. We canceled our plans we don't want anything to do with their company. She said it still shows that we have a plan in their system. Well we haven't payed since September 2017 so yes we don't have a plan. And to leave us alone. She said she would make a note but I should call corporate to make sure. Well the next morning I call and tell them to put me on the do not call list or something. I am fed up with people calling us! So i finally think that it is over... nope wrong again!! Here we are January 2018 and someone calls tonight saying my husband still has his cancer plan! WTF leave us alone already! I am calling corporate tomorrow and am to the point of filing a complaint for harassment. read more

I am writing this in reference to American Income Life that is supposedly located at 45-955 Kamehameha Hwy #200 in Kaneohe. The salespeople contacted me saying that I was to receive life insurance through my company and that they needed to come to my home and talk with my husband and I. I told them that I didn' t want any additional insurance beyond the free insurance through my job. She said no problem, but they still needed to meet with us to "go over the paperwork". They came in the evening, wasted a bunch of my time trying to sell me more insurance. They also asked for a list of relatives and friends that would need to be notified if both my husband and I were killed in a car accident or died at the same time. We gave them some names and numbers. The salesperson said that these were contacts they would call if we DIED. Well today I received a call from my friend saying that she got a call from a woman saying that she was "referred" to her. She was trying to sell her life insurance! The confidential information that we gave to her for a "in case your dead" became a scam for her to call these people and try to sell them insurance. Some of these numbers are unlisted and these people were not referred! I would NEVER refer them! They also showed up at a co-worker's house with no appointment, unannounced. They came to our house under the pretense of signing us up for a Child Safe Kit, and then tried to get us to buy insurance. They also tried to have us give them a list of friends and relatives who would also want a Cild Safe Kit to "protect" their kids. Totally unethical. read more
