Pro Tip: Grab a waffle from the secret waffle society at Sun North to enjoy in the park : )

Our kiddos (aged 3.5 to 6.5) loved the splash pad. We let them use our tupperware from our picnic to catch the water or cover the spigots, and they loved doing that. Most of the kids playing in the water ended up being temporary friends. Besides the splash pad, there is also a music section (with a xylophone) and some fancy swings. All very sun-exposed. There are several grass areas in the shade. There's also a shaded picnic table area, about 6 picnic tables.

Shevlin park has a teepee that you can check out and go inside of, they have more than one trail, good for bike riding, dog walking, fishing. I remember having picnics here as a kid and I still come back as an adult when in the area. They trails are low impact and fairly flat.

We absolutely love nature, and knew we had to try it. At first upon arriving, I feared there would be no parking at 11:00 a.m. However, the lot was only halfway full which was nice. The trails were laid out on the trail map a little ways past the shelter on the left, but there was a discrepancy between what the trail map said and the websites listed in terms of trail names and trail lengths. So, we decided to forge our own path. We took the main loop around. The conifer trees and contrast with the desert landscape were beautiful, and the creek shots were stunning.

If you grew up in the area - you can reminisce about how the place has grown - the old library and post office (which have both moved on to bigger buildings) are within eye view. Watching my two children play with these buildings in sight definitely brought back some nostalgic feelings. As a kid - what a blast! The splash pad rotates through several different blasts and I saw many kids (including my own) enjoying themselves immensely. There was plenty of seating for parents to sit and still be able to watch their children and a huge grassy area where you can sit and have a picnic. Obsessed!

There were sit down tables with umbrellas for shade and a free tree shade areas in the park. A couple places to sit near the water but you can get wet there. A great park! The walking path has signs that share cool history about Bend, which makes it fun to explore. There's also a dog park and a spot nearby to rent all kinds of bikes, so it's easy to make a full day of it. Sometimes you can even hear live music from Hayden Homes Amphitheater in the evenings. Such a great park to hang out, relax, and enjoy Bend.

They were hosting a river surfing competition on the rapids along with some vendors and food trucks on that side of the park. All is fenced in, and includes quite a few benches for humans to sit. My biggest gripe is that there is a dog bowl, but no way to fill it with water. Being high desert, I'd expect that there would be a way to get the dogs some water. Luckily I brought my own, and suddenly became really popular with all the other thirsty dogs begging for water. I realize that's a luxury, but with a dry climate, I guess I thought there'd be some way for them to stay hydrated. There are lots of trees, so the area is well shaded, but completely dirt.

I am pleasantly surprised every time I bring him here that there are lots of kids all skating. Meaning, no kids lurking, or loitering. I think that the kids using this skatepark are there to do just that, skate. Great. Definitely mixed ages, a few parents supervising the younger kids, all in all I think it's a pretty decent place. From a skateboarders perspective, it's great. There is an older skatepark on the other side of the park and that's where the scooters are. Perfect. Skateboards and scooters are a tough mix, so nice that the kids themselves have decided to keep things separate. Nothing wrong with skaters, or scooters, but it's easier logistically to keep it separate. I haven't checked out the park in earnest, but know that the part I can see that it's a street skating park. I haven't seen any bowls. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating for those parents who want to watch. Clean.

In other words the signage to reach these falls aren't the best. You have to walk out the way you drove in. There is a sign along that road which directs you off onto a path but it doesn't really tell you how far to go. Luckily when we were on the other side of the park someone asked if we were looking for them and we were told that you had to go under the bridge where the highway is in order to get to them. You go a little ways still and then the falls are located at last along the river...just listen for the sound of them and you will find them. Was it worth after getting lost and slightly frustrated until we reaches them? Absolutely it was worth it. At the time we were here parking was still free to utilize but there were signs saying that parking rates were on the way so that is definitely something to be aware of.

Juniper Park feels like a really old but well maintained park. My girlfriend and I walked around…read morefor a while and it struck me how peaceful it is with the large fields with a bunch of old growth trees around. The park has a bunch of amenities too! A fitness center, swimming center, playground, and a tennis court. The squirrels here are absurdly fat, clearly living luxurious in Bend. This is one of the nicest parks in Bend. It's simple, welcoming, and just feels good to be in. Five out of five stars!
