No reviews for THE LEGION! WTF? This place has the only waterfront patio in town. (I've heard the Corp of Engineers owns ever inch of lakefront/riverside property around here.) Great place to watch the sunset! Just plan on hangin' on this patio every night between 8-10pm (July 2010.) There's always a decent crowd, it seems. This place has a great mix of young and old and lots of charm...friendly staff too. I've heard the patio is actually part of the adjacent park, and that you can drink in the parks....ie. you can maybe bring your own beer to this patio. ? Is it true? Dunno, no one does it. I happened to be in Pierre for business and searched for a Legion and saw this Post was close by. I went this past Sun and Mon evenings and what a great time. Live music on the deck both nights, great hospitality! Beautiful setting along the river. Nice selection of drafts on tap and of course other spirits. A really pretty Post. This place was a whole lot of hype that turned out to be... just another bar. Yea it was on the river but, that also means wind and a lot of bugs biting you all night so bring bug spray. It was also a bit crowded on the "deck" which everyone loves so much, but it was to be expected because they had a live performer who was actually pretty good. Um yea the rumors about under age drinking and lack of carding are pretty true. I definitely saw a couple of teenagers there that were OBVIOUSLY under 21. I mean you don't have to go through the front door or anything, you can just walk up the side and bring booze, you don't even have to go inside to buy. But that was not nearly as annoying as all of the stoners off to the side smoking weed half the night. They barely even tried to hide it. I could smell it from 20 feet away and clearly see them doing it. I'm not a prude or anything but Jesus at least get out of plain view. Also, despite what people might try to tell you, the drinks are not cheap. Supposedly the cheapest in town and we still spent about 6 bucks or more on each drink. Granted they were not Dixie cups and had decent amounts of booze in them, but it would be a lot better to just bring your own or pre-game when planning on going here. Last but not least, ZERO food. Like, not even chips or a vending machine. Like wtf? In Sum: Bring your own booze and food and chill on the deck for some music for a bit then go home. Otherwise don't bother. read more
