Scheduled both my husband and myself to donate at the Hermitage Police Station today. They were so understaffed having only two workers! After over half an hour of waiting, we left. During our time there, only one donor completed their donation. As she left, her arm started bleeding profusely dripping down her arm and leaving a trail of blood all the way into the lobby before she noticed. Three donors were ahead of us waiting to begin the interview process, three were waiting on the beds to start their donation, and by the time we walked out, 8 people were waiting after checking in!!! This is unacceptable. I'll head into Nashville to the Charlotte Avenue location and be in and out in no time. read more

I come here every two months to donate blood Jamie is my go to gal- she is amazing. I have little veins that move. I don't even qualify to donate plasma, my veins are so small. No matter what I do- down a steak, chug a gallon of water, do a heavy work out before- my veins stay petite. Why the rest of my body can't stay petite like my veins idk but that's a conversation I have with the lord often. Her technique is unparalleled. She manages to relax me even though she's about to stab me, consensually. I will literally only see her. If she's not there I leave. I cannot tell you the amount of times my donation was incomplete because of my difficult veins and a bad stick got air in the bag. But it's never happened with her. She is so good. Please give her a raise. She's an icon and deserves it. read more

Today my dear friend lost her home in the Hillwood Condos Fire Post Rd. Nashville and has not stopped raving about our local Red Cross!! They took care of everyone. They even called her Dr. To get her destroyed meds replaced. No one was physically hurt Thank God; however, the emotional toll of losing decades of memories and what she owned as an investment for her senior years, can't sleep in her own bed tonight, is enough to cause damage. I'm 73 and only second time witnessed the need personally, for dear friends. And as LA struggles, we think it can't happen to our loved ones or us. Well it did, and our local Red Cross was, is there and saving lives, one emotion at a time. Bless them all. read more

I know it's not normal to review a Red Cross location but y'all they are great and if you are considering donating blood go here! My boyfriend and I have come here the last two times we've donated blood. They are always on time, efficient, and so helpful during the process. I'm a lightweight so I always get light headed while donating. This past time they put cool towels on my head, brought me juice, made sure to elevate my feet. I felt better in minutes. It's easy to schedule appointments through the Red Cross app and honestly it's not super busy when we go around 7 pm during the weekday so you can get in and out fast and make the world a better place in no time. I'm pretty needle adverse and every nurse has been wonderful. No pain, no issues. They make it easy. read more

This American Red Cross location is a great place to do all that and more. Right now, they are testing all blood donations for COVID antibodies (I haven't gotten my results yet, but I was told that you can expect results within 7-10 days on the Red Cross app), so that you can find out if your plasma could help some COVID patients. You can make appointments on the app or website - appointments are a little hard to come by right now because they're limiting capacity inside, but I was able to find an appointment during the week I looked. (Actually, I had a total Alexis moment this week - what I call my oops moments - and showed up on the wrong day, but they still fit me in! Thanks for that, American Red Cross!) Everyone was super nice, and the process was pretty fast all things considered (it is a multi-step process, but I was still in and out within an hour). Right now with COVID, they took my temperature three times (at the door when I entered from the parking lot, at the entrance to the donor room, and during the question and answer period before you give blood). Everything was socially distanced inside - from check in to the donor room. Everyone was masked throughout. They have a nice big parking lot in front, which made it easy to rush inside since I was running a little behind (on the wrong day anyway). All in all, they made the experience of giving blood easy and as pleasant as it can be (I mean you're still giving blood - not my idea of a good time)! This is one of my favorite non profit organizations in the Nashville area to donate my time and my very own blood! The Charlotte Pike location is very easy to get to with plenty of parking (so no excuses for saying it is downtown). Once you are inside, you go down a hallway or two that is lined with all of the ten gallon plus donors. It is really cool to see how many people have reached that mark. There is a check in desk in the lobby and a nice waiting room. Once you are in, you get your iron levels, pulse and blood pressure checked. You have to have a minimum of 12.5 iron level to donate blood so be sure to eat iron rich food before you go in! Once you are cleared, the donation process is super quick. I drank alot of water before I went in so I was finished giving blood within 20 minutes. My reward for the experience, guilt free cookies and a coke, plus a sticker! I fully support any organization that revives me with cookies! So donate blood! You can really make a difference! read more

I'm a huge fan of how they conduct their Adult First Aid and CPR classes here. You take most of your hours though a computer simulation gamified learning setting, meaning you only take one hour of actual "exam" and review time at the location. The staff member who conducted the meeting was prompt and a great help with reviewing. The whole session went smoothly, and the hour zoomed by. With a great location on Charlotte, it's an easy place to locate if you're unfamiliar with the area. During the morning my appointment was set, I believe they had free coffee as well. read more

I had a super wonderful time giving blood today! Karen world with me and she was positively perfect!! We had a great time together through the entire process and helped me feel safe and comfortable even when i was very nervous! In fact, it was a hoot even getting hooked up to give blood as they have booty shaped stress balls! It's perfect! We couldn't stop laughing! Giving blood isn't as scary as you would think! Great location in Nashville to help out your fellow humans with blood donations! There is PLENTY of parking, which is really nice for being close to downtown. I've always gone after work, and they are open until 6:15 which is perfect for a majority of us who are 9-5ers and want to go after work. It's never very busy around 5:30, and they get you out of there pretty quickly. It's a bit confusing when you try to sign in because they have two computers, one for "whole" blood, the other for plasma. They refer to it as "whole" blood and I was confused because I am a novice in my blood donation knowledge and wasn't sure the difference! Just make sure you are signing in at the right place :) It takes a bit longer if you are first time donor with paperwork, etc, but once you complete that and get your donor card in the mail, it's a breeze. Super easy and the paperwork is cut down by quite a bit on your next visit. The staff is really great and I've never had an issue with them sticking me. I had one bad experience on a blood mobile, but at the Charlotte location they are all excellent. So you really don't have an excuse for not donating, its quick and easy and you can go after work! :) read more

Great experience - Thanksgiving Eve. So glad I did the RapidPass! Don't go there without it or an appointment, if you can help it. Saves a lot of time. There were a number of people in the lobby when I got there but did not wait long. Great job by all! Special attention to Danielle who made the experience almost painless. I mentioned my veins roll and she took care it it. One of the best sticks I have had. Learned that being well hydrated makes the blood flow so much better. read more

This review is for the Adult CPR/First Aid/AED class I recently took. I'm a big supporter of ARC's mission, which is why I chose to get certified here. Even after the class, I'm still a fan and would consider donating blood to the organization should I feel brave enough. However, the class was just OK. I've taken courses in emergency response at a citizen's (non-professional) level before and I really expected a little more out of it. This isn't to say that I didn't learn what I needed to learn. I just feel like we were taught bare minimum to get certified, and personally, it wasn't worth the $90. I could have picked up a book or gone online to get the same information. The CPR/AED portion was better than First Aid in that we got to practice with dummies, a machine, and act out a response to someone unconscious on the ground. The more people in the class, the better, because you get to see it several times. There were five other women in my class which was a solid number. First Aid was ALL VIDEO. I truly expected that portion to work the same as CPR where we get instruction, some video, and practice. While I did learn more about safety, bacteria, spreading disease, etc., I was surprised at the little info on treating a wound on different parts of a body. It went over stopping bleeding, dressing a wound and waiting for help, but I still wish I could be a little more prepared than that. Maybe I just want to know more than is necessary, so it could be just me. Also, I was in JROTC in high school, and I remember getting a lot more hands-on than this for even a 45 minute session in first aid. This is the American Red Cross. I was a little disappointed that it was just so relaxed. The course was scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - We were done with CPR/AED by noon, took an hour break for lunch, and zipped through First Aid in 40 minutes. I was out before 2 p.m. I had to take this course as a requirement for a job, and even in attending something I didn't exactly volunteer for myself, I wish I could have gotten a little more. I won't name the instructor because I don't think it was this person's fault. I'd be interested to see if all the classes are like this, but I will say that my instructor WAS very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Nothing wrong with the instructor. The process for attending the class is really easy. Just go online, sign up for one of the many available dates/times, pay, plenty of parking. read more

Went to donate blood with the blood mobile truck that was in Shelbyville Tn. At first they said I'd need an appointment but one of the guys said they'd make room. They worked with me got me in and out very quickly but also very professionally. They explained everything as we went and were extremely helpful. I'll definitely be donating again with this truck. read more

American Red Cross sites 94% of the total workforce is made up of volunteers to carry out humanitarian aid so volunteers are really important to this organization. They really try their best to be accessible and easy to find. I've seen them do multiple events at the Vanderbilt campus and downtown. read more

On Friday March 17, 2017 at 10:45 I had appointment to give platelets for the first time. A little nervous but the staff made me feel comfortable. All went well until the last few minutes then I challenged the girls by passing out and vomiting and wetting on myself to my disgrace. Nothing for them. When I came to they were wiping my face with cold cloths and cleaning the vomit off me and I was surrounded by caring people. To say it was a good experience would be a lie but to say I was taken care of in every way possible. YES. I think head staff member came over to me and brought me a depend and some scrubs and told me not to worry it happened sometimes. To all the staff members that day between 10:45 and 3PM I want to say a word of gratitude to them Do not remember names but even the lady who brought me Gatorade thank you. I had a call on Saturday from the Red Cross checking on me. She told me things to do to help get back my strength. Today is Monday and I am still weak but getting better. Again thank you to all the staff. read more
