hired this company for an emergency sewer repair after my basement flooded. We initially agreed on a $4,500 sewer line replacement. When additional work was discovered--breaking concrete and repairing another three feet of pipe--I was verbally quoted a total of $6,500, which I agreed to. I was never informed or consulted about charges totaling $10,000, which is what I was ultimately invoiced. The foreman pressured me to sign the contract without fully explaining it, and I felt taken advantage of given my age and understanding. So many red flags and concerns. Definitely dont call them if youre unfamiliar with how leak or plumbing repairs work or of its an emergency. My experience tells me it may be something they try to use to to their advantage. They showed up to give a free estimate to repair a small leak in the front yard that we had detected via sonar. That's how small it is. There are 2 possibilities of where the leak is. Either its the sprinkler line or small leak in the main water line, both of which are next to eachother by 2 feet and both I had marked for them to reference.. The plumber says "ok, let me go get my shovel and take a look", implying that he was just going to do a quick little look at the sprinkler to determine if it was possibly coming from there. I said Great, thanks! Before people start coming back with "you wanted him to dig for free", let me tell you thats not what happened. I wasn't expecting him to break a sweat, just 2 or 3 shovel turns to flip the grass up and look at the sprinkler (approx 12 inches down) is what he implied he was doing. Another company had done the same as part of a free estimate when we thought the leak was in a different area and before the sonar detection, so I assumed it was part of the visit. He comes back from the truck with the shovel and says " ok so, just so you know it will be $650 just to start". I was completely taken aback because we hadn't discussed anything else at all. I asked what the $650 price included and he said its to dig in one spot where the sprinkler is (not even 2 x 2) and it "may or may not be the price of the repair. That it goes up from there once he determines the issue". I told him that typically people give an estimate for what to expect before the work starts, not guess as they go. Such as if the the leak was the sprinkler vs. the main water line, if it was a repar or a replacement, possible area expansion, etc. Not throw out a price and it will keep going up as we go! I assumed that him getting the shovel to look at the sprinkler would have given us both the clarification as to how to proceed with pricing, as most companies do. We have other estimates from companies that gave us a transparent price breakdown of the 3 different scenarios with the most extreme work coming in at the mid 4 digits and the least of the work coming in right around what he quoted me just to dig. I asked a few more questions to see if I could try to ascertain what his intentions were and what the ballpark prices would be repair vs replace etc, I got vague, unclear and indeterminate answers so thats when I said " No. You can go. Im not doing that, you can leave". Whats also important to note is that I had interacted with this company via Yelp the week before when I had started a "project" to find a leak detection service. Yelp sent my request to 5 different plumbers and American Reliable was one of them. They responded that they can send someone out with a price higher than another quote from a specialty service provider. The thing is though, is that in my request I specifically noted and made a point to say that we were requesting leak detection with SONAR because we already tried imaging. I hade to message back and forth with them just to get clarification they offered this service. After a few back and forths they finally came back with no. They dont offer sonar which was the whole point! Had I let them come I assume they would have gotten here and done whatever it is they do without mentioning sonar and charge the me several hundred dollars for it. So either they didnt read my request which tells me they don't pay attention to detail or they ignored it hoping Id not catch the fact they don't offer sonar until it was too late and after I paid. Either way, it wasn't ok. Even after the miscommunication with the sonar service I still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and come out for an estimate to repair. ALWAYS ASK AND VERIFY PEOPLE and TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. Lastly, when corresponding with the office they gave me a 12pm - 2pm window. I asked them to let me know when they were on their way because I needed to make sure someone was home. Not only did they not alert me like most companies do regardlessof the type of contractor Im hiring, they came 1 hour early. Thankfully I was home. Normally I'd be quite pleased if a contractor came early but they need to make sure someone is home before doing that because most people arent just sitting around all day. They had all of my contact info. Poor communication. Poor transparency. Poor service. There are 1000's of companies to choose from so dont let your initial impression of them be mistaken for being transparent. Fast message replies do not guarantee honest service. read more

Construction of new pipe is very different from original considering the slope angle. Not pleased at all. I had a plumber come to check out the plumbing issue I had, but eventually it was not able to be fixed so they came later in the afternoon upon ensuring me the service will be completed. The guarantee they gave me provided assurance and trust and when David and Alex came over, they analyzed the issue and quickly resolved it. The only downside of the service I feel was pricing where I feel it was a bit pricy as it was well over my budget, but I had no choice but to fix this matter. They sent a "technician" for an estimate, the guy was jumping from place to place and twitching. Asking the same thing over and over. When I explicitly told him not to touch my shut off valve, he broke it and told me it was his job. How can a company employ such people? Nuts! The technician came out and damaged my property, but instead of taking responsibility, the company says it's all normal "we stand with our twitchers". I feel really lucky to have found American Reliable Services when I did. I was in the middle of moving into a new place and had an unpleasant surprise of finding out my laundry valves and main water shut off valves not working. I also had a time crunch because I had an upcoming delivery of a laundry unit and needed to make sure my plumbing was squared away so the laundry unit could be installed. After receiving numerous quotes, American Reliable Services was the only one who came out the day I called (on a Saturday!) and was able to make the repairs in my timeline. I've had the pleasure of having Vic and Aren and they will be my go-to plumbers moving forward. They are always reliable and carry out their repairs professionally. What I like is that they are willing to explain to me what needs to be done and explain what they're doing during the repair. They're not condescending, and you know that take pride in their work and make sure their client is satisfied. We hired ARS to help us put in an air gap for our dishwasher and connect a waterline to the fridge for ice. I won't go into too much but the techs damaged something. They brought it to my attention upon completion but I knew my partner wasn't going to be happy about it. They also didn't clean up the debris from the work. Here's why I'm giving 4 stars. While the techs' work left something to be desired, once my partner brought the issue to the company's attention they agreed the work wasn't up to their standards. Technician visit was scheduled for 4-6 PM but the technician called at 6 PM to let me know that they are running late. And they showed up around 6:30 PM which was still okay. But when these two men showed up, they reeked of cigarette and didn't even know how to properly use their ladder which resulted in scuffed/scratched floors and I just realized that they even broke the cover to my attic. But besides the poor presentation, they went up to my attic for about 2 minutes and tried to analyze what the problem was and when I asked what can be done to fix the issue, the technician made couple of guesses and said "it will be about $500 but we can't fix it today" I called this company to get the issue fixed right away and not for them to waste 3 hours of my time and break my property. I had a clogged kitchen drain. First I called another well known rooter company. The man tried to snake the drain but couldn't get through. When he said he would have to do one of 2 services. One for $2500 the other for $5000. We asked them to leave and called American Reliable Services. It did take a few different tools and 4 guys, but they got through and cleared the drain. After some conversation we were able to find a path forward, so adding back a star for the customer service. /// Had a simple toilet replacement job. Plumber scratched significant amount of tile dragging in the toilet, and then trying to remove the old caulking. After already scratching the floor, he let us know he couldn't remove the old caulking without scratching further so it was up to us whether we should just leave the old caulking in the middle of the floor or have him keep scratching away (we obviously just told him to stop). I ultimately ended up purchasing my own caulk remove and was able to fix without issue. $500 for a less than 2 hour job that ultimately damaged my floor in a way I cannot repair (I cannot buy more of the original tile) is certainly not what I expected. read more

Finally found an HONEST plumber! His name is Vik! I'm a Realtor. I listed my clients house for sale and wanted to check the water pressure gauge as it was coming up different during inspections.. So I met Vik the plumber at the house to check the water pressure. He told me the water pressure gauge was not working correctly and showed me exactly why. Then he went above and beyond by allowing me to record him, explaining to me the facts so I could send to the owner of the house rather than try to explain to the owner myself. He fixed the water pressure gauge and all works well now. I also called him over again a week later to fix a toilet that was making water sounds. He replaced the small part inside.
