Building our first home at the ages of 77 created some anxiety. BUT our first meeting with Candice, our sales manager, turned the anxiety to a calm excitement. We had numerous questions and concerns, and Candice led us through the process, explaining what to expect in each stage with well explained visuals. Candice has a sincere passion to facilitate, not push clients, directing them to build their custom dream home. She listens and never becomes impatient as changes are made & all the while sticking to budget. Sydney, our sales coordinator, really calmed our nerves in the selection process. Being very visual we knew it would take a long time for color selections & we couldn't spend the night in the office. We couldn't be more pleased with the staff at AHP Knoxville. They took us through each step of the building process and made our dream a reality. Trying to build a home in TN while living in another state was quite a scary process, but they made it so easy. DO NOT BUILD WITH THIS COMPANY!! They use their subs to make more money. Intentionally hiring subs that cost more money so their management fee increases. And our project manager said "I did not check in on the project like I should have" which led to our entire quarter mile electrical run being ran on someone else's property. read more

We literally wasted 2 months with incorrect information. The fact that the builder had been out to the land and nothing changed at that time and all of a sudden an additional $15,000 is required to complete the land when we were ready to sign was troubling. We have been extremely patient and understanding, but for us to have picked out colors and features it seems so deceiving and deliberate. From the plans that were literally handed to us twice coming into the office being incorrect to the back and forth about the $26,000(+fee) that was put on the costs no matter if they did the work or not. We were told an outside person could prepare the land if we had someone else, but as we wrapped things up we were told AHP had to do everything even if they charged more. We cannot get time back, but we would rather not and definitely will not work with this company who has no consideration for its' customers and/or their budget. They knew the budget from day one, so all the #'s they eventually listed was completely disrespectful and let's us know that they were not willing to listen or compromise (and no, a "concession" for a porch that was on a plan was not compromise). We have spoken with two other contractors and the first question for both was about the Perc Test and it has not been mentioned in the two months we have spoken to this company. I pray this was not a race thing nor taking advantage of a family who was not as informed as most, but that is why we went to the professionals. We just picked the wrong company. REDLINING BAD! Raised costs right before we were about to sign. If they did not want to work with us, it could have been a better way to do it. But I sent a similar email to the consultant and manager in the Opelika, AL office and neither have responded, letting me know that this was intentional. read more

I'd give them negative stars if I could. We live next door to a build and so far they have hooked up to OUR water and now OUR electricity. There was zero signs of their getting water or power hooked up, before they broke ground. I don't blame their construction crews, they can only work with what they are given. I do blame whoever is running this build for being so unprofessional and for also wanting to blame the 'neighbors' for their problems, to their clients. It's not our job to supply water or electricity to your construction site. We have been more than accommodating and have even allowed their porta potty to remain on our property, as opposed to asking them to move it. Happy to have new neighbors moving in, but unhappy with the management of the project, who neither returns calls nor seems to have done the preparation work required before starting a build. read more

We would like to share our experience in having a custom home built by America's Home Place. First of all, we want to acknowledge America's Home Place member Brandon (German Apple Strudel) Strissel. Brandy or Mr. Strudel as we often refer to him is our phenomenal HERO!!!! His down home folksy, ever positive, always willing to please Tennessee way is not only charming but totally refreshing! And as seems characteristic of those who shine as heroes by day he is unknown to most to be also a super hero by night. He works tirelessly at night in direct coordination with many different state and national law enforcement agencies to rid our streets of the bums and the whimps and the pimps and the gimps that clog up the system and take up too much .....parking space. As not the only superhero to have large RED "S" (for Strissel) on the chest portion of his caped crusader outfit he can many times be confused for Superman? Also we want to acknowledge Mr.. Lars Jacobs the general manager and "une personne le extraordinaire" at Americas Home Place Nashville branch. He exhibits what we refer to as the lost art of listening. As a former salesman, business owner and currently as a Registered Nurse I have found it an essential skill set to truly listen to someone. That ability to really hear the other person. That skill of holding back that seemingly human knee jerk response of ignoring what that other person is really saying and instead reacting and formulating a response in your own mind to what you think their point MAY be. Perhaps totally ignoring what they are actually saying. This can cause an incredible shift and movement in what ever process is being pursued. This REAL discussion of what could be totally opposite points of view could generate totally new ideas or approaches previously not thought of by either party? Anyway I was getting off point. We really want to give thanks to Lars for this uncommon, and generally lost skill set!!!!! In previous training, and in being a Critical Care Registered Nurse where it could possibly be the difference between life and death for a patient. It is ESSENTIAL if you have people who really pay attention to details. I pay closer attention to details then just the average client? Both Lars and Brandon worked their combined magic to address any and all our concerns to BEYOND our complete satisfaction. Bottom line, will there be ups and downs in a custom home build process with ANY homebuilder? The answer may be yes! With life in general there will be ups and downs. Some say it is part of the "human condition." If you add to that something that could be as emotionally charged as buying, selling or building a home. And you have the potential for an emotional upset? That is why you really need a builder and a builder manager like Lars Jacobs, Brandon and the team at the Nashville branch of America's Home Place!!!! You may really wish to avoid some other home builders in what some TV cartoon characters, and a few 3 year olds refer to as those tricky "twicksters?" Stay away from those Ebenezer teasers. AHP Gainesville. We (wife, two kids, mom and myself) wanted a home built with an in-law suite and finished basement for our business. Total price came out to $821,000. Upgrades? No, the house was pretty basic. Concrete flooring in the basement, LVT in the upstairs and in law suite, Portico to connect the homes. No trey ceilings, no vaulted ceilings, no crown moulding, concrete flooring in basement... like I said pretty basic. Total square footage 3000 sq. ft. for $821,000 for that price this home should have been the total package. In law suite was the Cherokee (900 sq ft.) That house is barely larger than a double wide trailer and it cost of $200,000. Main home was the Waterstone II (2100 sq. ft.) with finished basement. I kept getting patted on the shoulder "we are gonna make this happen for you" when push came to shove the appraisal came in $100,000 lower than the cost of the house. After that it was either come up with the $100k and move into an upside down loan or leave it and forfeit $500. Communication became non-existent and all the patting on the back became promises and lies. Spent six weeks getting us excited just to let us drop at the end of it all. Cancelled the loan with the bank via email cause we couldn't come up with $100k to make up the difference of the overvalued home. You think we got a phone call from them after that? Think again. You have to look past the smoke and mirrors.They use your excitement to their advantage. Once you sign that contract and give them $500 if that house doesn't appraise you are up a creek without a paddle. Either come up with the difference or your dream just became a nightmare. They wanted us to give them a review within the first couple of meetings. I wondered why they wanted a good review so quick into the process. Well, now you know. Good luck with your dream. Not impressed at all... after spending a lot of time over several meetings and making a floor plan they called and said their builder will not build the house. Apparently he didn't like the kitchen that I had designed that wasn't run of the mill, basic like every other kitchen on their plans. Pretty crappy if you ask me. After that we were not going to invest our nest egg there and ended up finding a WAY better builder that was so easy to work with and respectful of our time and money! Beware of this company. Do your research before you decide to hire these guys. We hired the Knoxville, TN office to build our home. There are so many problems with the house. When we done the final walkthrough with AHP there were issues and put on paper and were told that everything would be fixed within two weeks. Now 3 months later we had closed on our other house and were ready to move. Get to the AHP house and nothing had been done since the walkthrough. They just walked away from the house and did nothing to fix the issues. Now we have been living in the home for a month and still haven't got the issues fixed. Can't unpack because the floors are buckled up, no doors on cabinets, trim looks like a 10 year old installed, steps have gaps on them you can put your finger in, ceiling cracking the list can go on and on. Just beware of these guys and do your homework before using these people. Make sure they don't rush you through signing a contract with AHP. Very deceiving company . Supposed to be a custom builder and they build like a spec home. Just rush to get it finished not caring what it looks like. read more

16 months--that's how long it looks AFTER we moved in to get our house almost finished, but we ran out of time so we're stuck with persistent problems. We chose America's Home Place for our home build after a lot of research and review reading. The reviews were positive, so we moved forward--chose a floor plan and went to the store to start the process. Signed our contract in July 2019 with Chad. We chose our finishes but still had some design questions. He told us he'd help us the whole time. He quit in October and Thomas started. Things went really quickly and we were so pleased. Began asking our project manager, Shannon, about our design questions. We had customized a plan and had some questions. Each time we talked, he assured us when it came time for those rooms, we would talk. I finally went back to the office to review the plans again. Thomas met with us and essentially laughed off our questions. Each time I talked with them I felt more and more anxious instead of reassured. We were given a May move in date. It was delayed--no big deal except it was delayed because workers stopped showing up. The handyman who was supposed to do trim and our deck and railings would take days off for other projects. Finally moved in on June 25 with no shelves in our closets, no stairs on our porches, no crawl space door, no screen under our porch, and a punch list that filed a page (cracked mirror, no window locks, etc.) but reassurance that it would get done. Greg came and knocked most of it out quickly. Then the joist lift started upstairs in almost every room, the floors started shifting when we walked. Each time I contacted AHP, a different person would tell me someone would call back. Then Thomas quit and Ryan started. Finally got a warranty walk through. Joist lift upstairs, stair treads not attached to the frame, subfloor not attached to the joists, still no window locks, gaps under floor moulding, broken attic door, broken garage door motor...the list continued to grow. Ryan couldn't be bothered to look up from his phone while we walked through. The warranty manager, Mark, was very attentive and made his notes but pointed out that we didn't have a warranty issue but a project manager's issue. He did what he could and hired Jeff who was fantastic and fixed so many issues. He finally finished what was approved to be done in October 2021-16 months after we moved in! And guess what, more subfloor lifting under the carpet and hardwood and the warranty is up! Will never recommend them to anyone else. Poor customer service once you sign on the dotted line, poor workmanship and poor communication all the way around. We have a beautiful house on the outside that we're having to put more money into to fix the problems on the inside. read more

Americas Home Place...think twice about hiring them. We had waited almost 20 years to have Americas Home Place serve as our new home builder. That long wait was an utter disappointment. Even though we have a roof over our head, we are disappointed in the unethical and unprofessional characteristics exhibited by the Augusta office. It starts with the leadership in Augusta, which lacks in management, organizational and ethical standards. Unfortunately, when the leader micro-manages the staff, the result is the same standards as the leader. We will have to live with our bad choice of selecting AHP as our builder, but we will not be silenced in not recommending AHP as a builder. As time progressed and we watched the construction, we pointed out concerns to the project manager. All too often, we would have to restate our concerns. And, all too often, we would have to restate them a third and fourth time. Some of these concerns were never completed as we neared the end of construction. We would send repeated emails and text messages along with documentation and drawings to clarify the concern. Many items were "forgotten" to be constructed. Now, we have to hire someone to finish the project. In the final few months the original project manager became invisible and lacked oversight for our construction. I had to personally take over the role of oversight to ensure all line-items were addressed. We hired AHP to perform these tasks, but, for some unknown reason the project manager was not around the job site. A second project manager was assigned, but it was too late and the damage was done. I could have become my own General Contractor and hired my own sub-contractors. This would have been the better result. Our perception is our reality! The multitude of errors along with perceived deceptive practices, and lack of attention-to-detail has left a void in our gut. Time will pass, and we will begin to push AHP out of our thoughts and the pain of doing business with AHP will subside. But we will not forget one basic business model: If you provide good customer service, your client will tell three people about their experience; if you exhibit bad customer service, your client will tell 11 people about the experience; and those 11 people will tell even more. Wasn't very impressed with America's Home Place. They built a family members house and had all sorts of trouble. The house is nice but the pain of dealing with them left a bad taste in our mouths. Their communication and lack of planning caused multiple problems with scheduling other contractors, leaving equipment laying around, slow to clean up the jobsite. They failed to communicate the design considerations of alternatives as a good builder should. Their attitude seemed to be to just build the minimum possible and get it over with. Additionally, the general quality of work and quality control processes they follow should be improved (large gaps around fireplace/framing/stairs. I don't know if they're too busy or just incompetent but we wouldn't use them again. The house does come with a 1 year warranty so any annoyances can be relayed to them but this is stuff that should not require warranty submissions. read more
