Unbelievably incompetent service.
I closed escrow on a home in early September, '21. During my due diligence period, I was unable to determine who the propane provider was, because the company label on the tank had been out of business for nearly 20 years (and the previous owner was no longer available.) 45 days after close of escrow, I was awoken by an Amerigas service technician loudly installing a valve lock. He stated the tank was an unsafe/hazardous installation, and he would notify his supervisors. When I asked that he have them contact me, he said to "... call the number on the tank." (Remember the phone number on the tank was for a company that went out of business?)
I contacted the Amerigas customer service call center with questions about the tank being 'locked out'. The service rep explained they needed to assign an account number to me to request a site safety inspection before they could move forward (but they would discount the safety inspection fee 50% as a customer service spiff.) I explained I didn't need a safety inspection, as the tank had just been locked-out as 'unsafe'; I just needed a conversation as to how to resolve my issue. Shortly afterward, I received an Amerigas customer contract in my email box. No. Just no. I am not entering any agreement with this company, under the current these circumstances.
So, I called customer service again, and although more attentive to my situation and a much longer phone call, I felt a very similar circular conversation. I left this call with assurances that a local supervisor would reach out to me. And, that never happened.
Fast forward three weeks later, and I come home to a delivery driver's invoice on my front door for filling a locked-out, and disconnected tank. I call again. After three customer service reps, and a 'resolution center' rep, I was left with a feeling that they were more concerned with an actual delivery happening, then with the any of my previous concerns. Ok, you win; we just can't do business together. Pick up the tank... but do it on my schedule. (Please remember Amerigas, you don't have a contract with me that states you can enter my property at any time.)
Here's what I think might happen next, if I leave this as it is...
· I will get a collections notice for not paying for propane that I didn't order.
· The tank will not be picked up timely, (unless I repeatedly call them about it.)
· Once the tank is gone, I will receive billing for undue charges, such as 'tank pump out', 'tank removal', 'tank rental' and who knows what else.
What I want to happen is...
· For Amerigas to contact me directly, and pick up the tank in the near future, on a schedule that is acceptable.
· Assure me in writing, even an email is fine, that Amerigas will not attempt to erroneously bill me for any charges.
Come on Amerigas, contact me and lets finish cleaning up this mess. read more
