Don't worry, security officers were personable and were happy to direct to where you need to be. I think they rather you ask than aimlessly wander around this pretty important government building. There are shops and places to grab a quick bite. There is also a Dunkin' in there and this was what I needed to refuel halfway through the day. If you like history/public affairs/governmental stuff...definitely worth a visit. I'm sure I'll be back in some capacity.

I have nothing against this little town and it's cute, but the mall is definitely the main attraction.

The library it self is fairly small in terms of number of books but i guess the town is pretty small. It has computer for use and free wifi which is a huge plus. They do not hace a lot of travel books which i like to check out. There is plenty of comfy chairs to read or study. It's not noisy usually and staff is friendly. Note that there is no cell phone use in order to keep a quiet environment for others. They do enforce this. It's understandable but annoying if you just need a quick call. There are a few secluded places where you can relax with a good book or study for a test.

It was incorporated in 1892. A couple of major employers are Rutland Regional Medical Center and General Electric Aircraft Engines. Merchants Row is located in historic downtown; it's a 19th century street with 108 historic buildings. They also have a 275-acre park for hiking, biking, skateboarding, etc. It is definitely the definition of a quintessential New England town (but it's actually a city). My family and I enjoyed our visit. We walked around and explored; they even had a Whoopie Pie Festival the day we went which was fun. Overall, it's a quaint and fun little small city.
