Located right down the street from the hospital and a short walk from a Coney Island hot dog joint is a slightly outdated (yet conveniently placed) Amtrak station.
Drove by the place twice because it doesn't give off this high tech, look-at-me-getting-my-train-ticket-scanned-on-my-phone vibe. The smell is a bit chemically when you walk in, but it goes away after a while. About 80 or so people can sit inside comfortably on wooden pews. The paint is chipping off of the ceiling, but I hope you're not here long enough to notice that.
Now, I'm visiting around the holidays, so I don't know what used to be where the Christmas tree is, but without it the area would be even more spacious. I think the staff consists of mostly veterans (thank you for your service!) which adds a nice touch.
There's a Pepsi vending machine and if my eyes aren't deceiving me, that's all in terms of snacks and drinks. The station doesn't provide much outside of getting the job done and it does just that. read more
