We also enjoying going to various businesses in St. Charles-The Chicken Coup for fried chicken. Sauci Pasta for delicious homemade pastas and salads. Napeoli 3 for their cocktails. Aldi's for groceries. He likes to hit the casino occasionally and I will accompany him for dinner dates in the casino. St. Charles has a plethora of really great spots to accommodate ALL your needs, from home and garden to night life and everyday needs. We often travel across the bridge because of the shopping options.

This section of St Charles is roughly adjacent to the Katy Trail State Park and the Missouri River is visible across the parking lot and trail area. The Main Street area is a semi-historic area with a lot of dining and shopping opportunties located in mostly historic buildings. It appears that a major effort has been made to preserve the historic nature of the district. My wife and her sister enjoyed some of the shopping sites and the four of us enjoyed a delightful lunch on the patio of one of the restaurants. The Main Street area of St Charles is a great place to spend an afternoon (or evening).

Elsah is a darling little historical river town on the great River Road…read more Yes, it is the small town that is home to Principa College, but there is so much more in this little town. The narrow streets are filled with uniquely designed homes and businesses. While you explore the streets, you can also dine at State Street Market on LaSalle, shop at Peace Works and stopping at the Village Museum is a must. So the next time you are headed up to Grafton or Pere Marquette State Park, I recommend you do a slight detour and check out the Village of Elsah.

Tickets: I drove downtown to the box office to save on the extra convenient fees that are automatically added if purchased online through ticket master. Service: This time around, they were two employees working. One was a lady, I wanted to wait for the older guy who was already helping someone, as he seemed very helpful in giving her insights. The lady decided to open up her window and called for the next customer. She was EXTREMELY RUDE! Almost turned me away! I ended up telling her that I will take some time to look on the website myself because she seemed as though she didn't want to be of help, and was rushing me to make a decision (no one was waiting behind me). I quickly browse the web and decided to wait for the older gentleman as I first intended to. I am glad I did. He was VERY Helpful! We got seats very close to the ice for very low cost! He also offered his recommendations! Event: We opted for the 11AM event, large turn out, but mostly longer children as to be expected for that time during school hours. Lots of lighting & stage effects being utilized which I love. However, this maybe not safe for someone who struggles with seizure disorders. Concession Stands: As you can imagine, plenty of vendors to get ALL of your money with all the Disney on Ice Sovereign. Food: We opted for quick bites and cotton candies. Plenty of junk food to choose from! Parking: Limited street parking available. Near by lots available for a fee. Closer ones cost more. We opted for one diagonal the venue for $20, I believe it was card only. Also, the metro link has a stop right next to the venue's location! I've opted for that option before to cut cost. The best hockey stadium in the world. Only fitting for the best fans in the world. I can say this. Hockey fans are so much better and lively than baseball fans. St Louis is known as a baseball city. They may want to rethink that. Customer service was wonderful all night. From the time I walked in until the time I left the building. They did an amazing job to make you feel welcome and appreciated. The nachos were good, but not great. The chips and cheese were very good. The meat was okay, but something was off with the meat in my opinion. It wasn't bad. It might have been the texture for me. The jalapeños were great. The portion size was huge. The refillable soda was huge. I thought I was going to get a refill. I couldn't even finish my Mellow Yellow soda. The only disappointing part it was the last game of the season. Thank you, Steve Smith, for sharing your collection! Nearly all the motorcycles had captions explaining their heritage, pedigree and history. The 1937 730cc Nimbus was manufactured in Denmark by Fisker & Nielsen in Copenhagen and the Model C was the first bike in history equipped with a telescopic front fork. The engine has many similarities to an automobile engine, including a distributor for firing the spark plugs, a cast iron exhaust manifold, an oil pan and overheard cam shaft, with exposed valves. There was an interesting wooden motorcycle, a 1955 Bergmeister 350cc made in Germany, 1928 Kaffeemuhle 185cc made in Germany, 1953 MB 250250S 250cc also from Germany. This museum consists of the historic home of The Children's Poet Eugene Fields (really more his…read morefather's home, but they are both famous) and the extension, which includes gallery space and a research library. It is another excellent little museum in the area! I did not realize that I knew Field's poetry, but I recognized "The Duel" immediately. We were really here for the Weatherbird 125th exhibit and a talk given by the current cartoonist Mr. Dan Martin, but got there early enough to explore the other exhibits and take a guided tour of the house. The staff were very informative and great at answering our questions. I was also so impressed with the exhibit designs. I think this is WELL worth the 10 bucks entrance fee and parking downtown (they do have a small free lot, which is easy to drive right by). Im encouraging all my friends to catch the Weatherbird exhibit before it leaves at the end of March, and I'd be interested to see what they rotate in later.

The Field House in downtown St. Louis is one of the area's oldest surviving structures. Built in…read more1845 as a part of Walsh's Row, this is the only survivor out of a dozen houses. Roswell Field moved his family into the house in 1850, and his son Eugene was born the same year. Roswell Field was the lawyer who defended Dred Scott in the famous court case, and was one of the key proponents in getting the case moved to the Supreme Court. Eugene lived in the house as a boy, but was later sent to live with relatives back East. He went on to be a famed newspaper columnist and poet in his adult life, but in his later years and after his death at age 45, his children's poems became what he was remembered for. The St. Louis board of education had leased their property to build Walsh's Row back in 1845, and this became important in 1936, when the row was slated for demolition. The board decided to dedicate the Field House as a place where children could go to learn about local history, and it has remained open as a museum ever since. Much of Eugene's furniture was placed in the house after being moved from Chicago. In the 1960s, part of the house was used to display vintage toys, as Eugene was an avid toy collector in his adult life. More recently, the museum has opened an exhibit space next to the house, where many of the toys are kept, and has focused on restoring the house to look more as it would have in the mid 19th century. The tour is not very long, as this is an upper middle class house that isn't incredibly large, but there's lots of history here, and it gives a look into what life was like living in downtown St. Louis in the 1850s.
