Locals are so friendly and atmosphere is warm and inviting. Had so much fun here on my recent trip and kept coming back each night after exploring. Seems they always have some event live music, karaoke, or sports but even on nights without them they have a jukebox, pool table, comfy seating and great company. The owner and bartenders were also wonderful. l Wish I lived there so I could go all the time. Already planning my next trip back to Ireland and will definitely make it back here!

We went to Birr to see if we could possibly track them down. The first place we stopped at was Kelly's pub. We had the best service and ate the best food. The soup was served with fresh homemade brown bread & Irish butter and the cottage pie was served piping hot with a rich flavour that felt not only delicious but nutritious too, The vegetables we were served tasted like they had just been picked. We asked the waitress if she could direct my American friend regarding sources of possible information on her long lost Irish relatives. Before I knew what was happening the owner John drove us to meet her family. He made phone calls, got their address and brought us there himself. I was so proud that my friend got to see the magic of Irish hospitality and selfless acts of kindness towards a stranger. It's a nice location with lots of parking, there is a restaurant inside and within walking distance of restaurants and bars. There is also a spa, but it's limited and not a lot available. The hotel is clean and nice inside, and the staff is very helpful with suggestions of what is nearby. They also provide a map; the elevators are very slow, and the room is good and clean, but the hallway had a weird smell the entire time. The bed was okay, but the pillows were thin, and we didn't spend much time in the room so that didn't bother us. We had the window open during our stay, and it was nice outside the entire time. The bathroom was small, and the towels were very small and thin. But for the location, it's worth it.

Around midnight we became aware of extremely loud noise emanating from a lower level of the hotel. We contacted the night manager by phone who informed us that the music would continue until 2 am and he was neither willing or in a position to lower the volume or turn it off. On the morning of the 17/8/2024 we met Mr. Dermot McManus, the General Manager of the hotel. Having explained the situation to him, his singular response was that he would have to look into "both sides of the story". Mr. Mc Manus undertook to contact one or either of us the following day in relation to what had happened, however, we have not heard from him up to this time. We then wrote to the owner of the hotel Mr. Pat Mc Donagh who ignored our letter. There was no sense of a duty of care or a deliverance of hospitality which might have been reasonably expected. If you want a nights sleep at the weekend AVOID, AVOID AVOID.
