Its owner Frank provides a bare bones operation for a low ball price. The lodge is spartan and the food is mediocre at best. Very little is provided for the quoted price $1850-$2100 depending on the time and place of the reservation. The amenities are virtually all charged additionally to your credit card which is provided at the time of arrival to the lodge. Things not included and need to be purchased consist of bottled water, beer, soda, bait, terminal gear, vacuum sealing of any fish caught, GPS and sonar units. These are all extra charges. You are responsible for all equipment used and are charged ridiculous prices for replacement. One of the gentlemen fishing nicked his prop was was charged $800. for replacement. The boats are quite old and worn. Our boat leaked and the bilge pump needed to be initiated manually. No radio is provided. You are told to call the lodge on your cell phone if you have a problem. Unfortunately the cell coverage is extremely limited. Though told the fishing was available very proximal to the lodge, in reality we had to travel at least 45-60 minutes to get to the productive fishing grounds. The fact is the seas can be quite rough in a small aluminum boat making the ride quite risky when the wind comes up. We had 25-35 MPH winds for 3 days. No towels or rain gear are provided so you need to BYO leaving very little room for your other needs for the trip. I go on 3-4 fishing adventures a year from Alaska to the Caribbean and have never experienced such a disappointment. There are 2 lodges on either side of Island Point Lodge which provide much better food, accommodations, safer equipment and are competitively priced. To put this into perspective my fishing diehard buddy wanted to leave 3 days early and go home because he was so disgusted. Frankly if they gave this trip away for free I would not return. I generously gave this operation 2 stars because there is a lodge on the water where you can fish for salmon and halibut in beautiful S.E Alaska and they do feed you. Let the buyer beware.

Island Point Lodge is THE choice fishing lodge near Petersburg AK. It is easy to forget how remote…read moreyou are because everything you could possibly want or need is already at the lodge. Rooms/cabins have mini fridges, heaters for cool nights and great views of the channel. Days are typically spent on the water and evenings in the main lodge dining chatting with fellow fishers about the day. Being a self guided trip lends to a unique and personal experience that could not be found on a charter or cruise ship. I would suggest good, if not strong boating skills and always safety first...the markers are for a reason, don't take shortcuts, shallow shoals are there even if you can't see them. Island Point Lodge is a cozy, family retreat where you are treated like an old friend. The fishing is great and early birds get the fish so thank goodness breakfast starts at 5am! They serve a different breakfast and dinner/dessert every day and lunch options are self serve sandwich items to take on the boat, also usually a stew and a few hearty lunch items (stuffed peppers, kielbasa dishes, etc) going on at the lodge. You will definitely be well taken care of by all of the staff, they are all genuinely caring people and bend over backwards to help you out weather it is gear, fishing advice, gas in the boat to handling your catch. Great stay, would highly recommend.
