Everything we ordered was delicious: * Tofuie Gras: smoked tofu paté with cranberry gel, served on toasted bread * Czech Traditional Svíčková: root vegetable sauce with Carlsbad dumplings, plant-based meat patty, lemon, and cranberry gel * Jackfruit Burrito: pulled jackfruit, smoked corn, chipotle rice, Cheddar, pickled cabbage, black beans, mango salsa, sour cream, and a side salad * Vegan Snickers: chocolate-caramel bar with raspberry sauce and peanuts I would consider becoming vegetarian if I can eat like this for every meal.

There's vegetarian magic in the air at the Lekha Hlava Clear Head Restaurant in Prague…read more We'll start with the very cool location. It is off a quiet side street down a clean and safe-feeling but still mysterious alley - like its location is a secret. Our reservation was for 6:30 pm and they asked if we thought we'd be done by 8:00 - probably so we wouldn't see the next party taking our table and they wouldn't see us. Let's keep the all the info secure - that's what's best for everyone. If the omnivores find out about this place, the fate of the whole known universe could be at risk. What if everyone wanted to eat at vegetarian restaurants? Crazy, right? VIPs like our family (ha!) sit in the Blue Heaven room where the tables are fire. Seriously- they light up and glow like flaming wood logs with a starry sky above. Even the greatest sorcerers from history would be impressed. Love the theming. Magical. We began our meal with the Small Clear Head starter, featuring "Tofuie Gras", hummus and guacamole. The hummus and guac were both excellent- but the star of the show was the fake foie gras. This is a vegetarian restaurant- no geese were harmed yet the texture was perfect, the taste convincing and the mix with the jelly divine. Wowsa. Loved this dish. I also really enjoyed my Bao Bun Burger. I was going to do the Spinach Chimney but diverted at the last minute because I'd overdosed on this trip on potatoes already, and au gratin was more than I could handle. My daughter liked her Stir-Fry Noodles. My wife was indifferent on her Parmesan Pleasure Burger but I think she was jealous of my Bao Bun. We skipped dessert. Beyond just the wonderful food, there was so much about this restaurant that felt fun, interesting and surprising. Including the bathroom. Behind the toilet there's an opening to a dark empty space - it is truly a creepy void. What's back there? There's also a very old door with a bone-chilling stair down to a dark cellar. What's down there? What about upstairs - what happens there? More mysteries. There's magic in the air at Lekha Hlava Clear Head Restaurant. It is worth a visit, for vegetarians and omnivores too.

I had the roasted BBQ ribs with roasted potatoes and coleslaw, a glass of the homemade sencha rose kombucha, and a piece of GF chocolate cake with raspberries. The food was great. The "ribs" didn't really look like ribs but had a meaty tenderness which was really good once I got used to it (I've had real ribs maybe once in my life and didn't enjoy it - this was way better). The kombucha was a little sweeter than I was expecting but tasted great - I could taste the sencha. It was a little expensive, but to be fair, the ribs were one of the more expensive dishes and were probably still less expensive than real ribs of the same quality. Friendly service. The waiters spoke English. The food took a reasonable amount of time to come out after I ordered. The kitchen closes from 4-5:30, and I showed up around 3:45 for a very early dinner, and I appreciated that they could accommodate me and cook my meal even thought it took them a few minutes past 4.

The daily lunch menus are especially afforable and have never been anything short of excellent. Be aware that the menu changes constantly based on what is in season and what they are feeling passionate about. Which is a plus in my eyes. The place is very small, with limited seating. You may want to book in advance.

The only thing is, it's a bit of a small restaurant so you either have to make a reservation or happen to show up at a time when there's a table available. I ordered the quesadillas and a Virgin Mojito made with green tea. The quesadillas were yummy! They came with a side of salsa that had the perfect (if not more) amount of kick, and some sour cream. In Europe, apparently quesadillas aren't finger food so I was trying to cut mine with the knife, and ended up struggling quite a bit. I think my knife wasn't sharp enough, but I didn't bother asking for a new one since I was already almost finished. So be wary of the blunt knives. The Virgin Mojito was very good! They used green tea instead of the rum, and my aunt said it still tasted like a regular Mojito because of the amount of lime and mint used. Plus, it came with a handy metal straw that wouldn't let all the mint and lime go up the straw when you took a sip. Perfect refreshing drink if you're not looking for something alcoholic!

It's a very worldly affair with many ethnic creations from all over the world. They note that their food creations have no borders. And it showcases in their menu. For dinner they have a tasting menu or a la carte option. We opted for the a la carte option. For appetizers we ordered fried spring rolls with mock Peking duck which consisted of seitan, hoisin sauce, cucumber, mint coulis, and light dressing. These rolls were excellent. For the main course I had cocoa ravioli with Gorgonzola, pears, walnuts, and beetroots. One of the most creative pastas I have ate and it was excellent. And Sam M had fried sushi with avocado, smoked carrots and other veggies. So good in taste as well. In drinks, they had creative lemonades and teas. I ordered the hibiscus elderberry iced tea. Sam M ordered a tropical style lemonade. Both drinks were refreshing. Service was attentive and good. This place is worth a try for some creative foods items. ~

As a vegan my options get limited but not as much as one might think. So I scoped out my vegan/vegetarian options of restaurants in Prague. My Airbnb was in 7 and this place was close. The Prague market is close so I grabbed my fresh product there but that got old and I needed a home base restaurant so I would not eat the ubiquitous amazing smelling fried meat and cheese extravaganza that is literally everywhere. And so I stumbled into ZAU and my trip to Prague became amazing, First off. Vegan is half of the menu. If eating animals and animal product is your thing then they will take care of you. For me it's not. There is an everyday buffet. This is staple food. Actually there is a tad more to it but more on that below. That buffet food kicked ass. ANDCHEAP. It's so cheap that I was felt morally obligated to unload the five pounds of pirate coins (Czech peeps love coins and you will end up with a pirate treasure pile of coins) that I had collected in the Czech Republic. I ordered some vegan Thai noodles and it was some of if not the best I'd had. So i made friends with the two women who run the place. They are from the North Vietnam area and have been in Prague for awhile now. I recommend learning a bit about WHY there are so many Northern Vietnamese natives in the Czech Republic and the story of how they answered the call to go to the Czech Republic when there was a worker shortage. One socialist country helping another. Vietnam figured they would come back with experience and skills. They had kids born there and lived working the hardest low paying meager jobs. After 1989 they stayed and instead of just working at a business they began to start one. They took the YEARS of knowing how a d what kind of Vietnamese food western folks typically enjoy and developed those. Which means you are not going to get something funky unless you ask for it. Everything up on the board is tried and true Vietnamese fare. Holy shit it was wonderful. And then I noticed the Vietnamese (always from the north areas) all over the Czech Republic. North of Prague they have are everywhere. The backbone of the service sector they have been tenacious in securing a better life and take great pride in the businesses they operate. I will miss my two temporary Vietnamese mothers who fed me everyday when I lived in Prague. So go. And tip them well. And listen to them speak about how they got there.
