Noodles in broth, a salad with rice as the base, and sticky rice with or without fruit. Vegan versions of the noodles and salad are printed on the menu, so you don't have to ask for ingredients to be left out. I'm vegetarian and I like the peace of mind of not having to request that the fish sauce be left out, and then hoping to hell that the cook actually remembered doing that. Presentation is plain in keeping with the idea of this being Thai street food, but this does not take away from the quality of the food in any way. I ordered the rice salad dish, and every bite was flavorful. I could have done with a little more lime juice and chilli (rectified by adding spice powder and the vegan version of fish sauce) but that's an individual preference. I really appreciate the vegan version of the chilli fish sauce. Smelling the latter from any closer than two table-lengths away usually does appreciable harm to my appetite, and I like that the vegan sauce is in jars clearly labeled as such. Not a big fan of the seating arrangements here. The tables are low, and the chairs are upholstered in the hideous "vintage" style revival that is all the rage in Germany, a good many years after it died the miserable death that it deserves elsewhere. Not only do the chairs look terrible, they also are not very comfortable to sit in, which is yet another feature of these abominations. I appreciate mid-Century pieces and Danish Modern furniture just as much if not more than your average bearded hipster claims to, but most of this bottom-feeder crap that finds its way into cheap restaurants and cafés needs to be burnt whenever the crematorium's having a slow day. Well, apart for the rant above, Regenzeit is promising, and I'll be back there for more lunches.

A word of warning to my American friends: German Chinese food is very different from American Chinese food, so come here with an open mind. The hot and sours soup is phenomenal, albeit very different from the American version. The menu is extensive and heavy on morels, bamboo, pork and duck. Entrees are placed on a warming dish in the middle of the table, making sharing easy. For dessert I highly recommend the fried bananas with honey (also very different from the American dish by the same name).

An older lady who took care of my bill was not too friendly or pleasant, and I got an impression that she really didn't want to be taking care of her customers. I had pho with beef...very good broth, and beef had a very good flavor--perhaps a bit salty, but it was good nonetheless. What I didn't expect was the lack of sweet basil or slices of lime (I suppose things are bit different here compared to what it is in US). During my Sai Nam binge, I had a curry dish, pad thai with chicken, pad thai with vegetables, spring rolls, and the iced tea. Every single item was absolutely amazing. I got my food to go each time. Even though I didn't call ahead to place the order (I was nervous about not speaking German, however that was silly as all of the staff I encountered spoke beautiful English), I was always in and out in under 15 minutes. Add to all of this how super affordable everything is (all entrees under €10, apps under €5), and you have my new favorite restaurant in Germany!
