I've been seeing a dentist twice per year since as long as I can remember and this is the only place I've ever been that would not provide a cleaning on the same day I was provided a comprehensive oral exam. I went specifically for a cleaning but was told I had to come back. By this point, I had already invested my time and effort and I went back for the following reasons: - I liked Dr. Tudor - The office was clean, inviting and full of modern equipment. I've now been here for two cleanings and have been attended to by the same hygienist, who is very thorough. You know you got a good cleaning when you leave with some pain (good pain)! Except on my last visit, she nearly chipped my tooth by pulling out the reflection mirror too quickly (bad pain). I'll be back, mainly because I don't feel like searching for yet another new dentist and also because I do feel like they are honest. I inquired about both whitening and Invisalign and they advised I did not need either. read more

If you are looking for a dentist, walk 5 seconds down to Alcan family dental. The desk people are way nicer and the dentists are just as good, if not more thorough and informative. A few months ago i had been scheduled for a cleaning. Unfortunately i had lost my phone the day before so i did not get their text that i had been double booked. When I got there, i checked in, and waited for about 20 minutes until i went back up and asked what was going on. They told me i had to reschedule (why didn't you say that when i checked in?) and so i did. The only availability for the day was an hour from then, so i went to the store and came back 10 minutes late. Checked in, waited another 20 minutes, and went back up to be told that my appointment was given away because i was late. I finally found a dentist in Anchorage I like! Look on Yelp for Dentist reviews and you'll find a weird situation. Lots of polarization, lots of flagged reviews, it's the wild-wild west out there. I main reasons I decided to check out midtown: - Close to my job (can walk from work) - Accepted by my insurance Another, dumb, reason: it's a pretty cool, modern-looking building. I came here after I experienced hard-selling and fear-mongering tactics at another Dentist. I wanted to get a second opinion. Boy, am I glad I did. Staff here are friendly and professional. Appointments are timely. The lobby is beautiful. You can choose your own music or watch Netflix while you get drilled/scrapped/polished. I had Dr. Adam Jensen for my dentist, he was great. He had a data-driven yet practical approach. I wish I knew he was a peak bagger (just found it out by creeping the website), we'll have so much more to talk about next time! read more

I don't even know where to start. I don't enjoy going to the dentist so I only go when it's necessary. I chose Midtown Dental because it came recommended. As soon as I stepped into the clinic I already had a bad feeling. I felt like entering a big national Dental chain. The front desk was busy and very quick with handing me a iPad to fill out the new patient forms. Other than that the front desk did not provide any other information like what your visit is going to cost and what portion will be submitted to the insurance. Every dentist I've seen before always gave me a rough estimate and what portion would be covered by insurance. After a wait, I was brought back to the exam room which barely had space to walk past the chair. I don't think I have ever seen such small exam rooms. Nothing for claustrophobic people. I do have to say the large TV screen was nice. The dental technician I had was good. She was fried ly and most certainly tried her best. Taking pictures of my teeth and doing X-rays. The X-ray portion was rather unpleasant until I was able to move the mouth piece myself. At no point of my visit had any of the staff asked for my dental history or asked about prior visits and what was done. I filled out a document for them to request my prior records from my old dentist before hand but I doubt that happened. After the X-rays were done I was informed that my insurance would not cover them because I had them done just over a year ago. You can imagine how surprised I was! I would have expected them to tell me before hand and get my pre-approval, specially with providing my insurance information prior to my appointment day. This sure made me feel like they didn't value me as a patient and just wanted to make extra money. Non of my prior Dental clinics have ever started with any work before going over a cost estimate and what the out of pocket cost would be. I informed my dental technician they should have informed me first of the cost and not wait until x-rays were done. The dentist was very adamant that their X-rays were needed for whatever reason. After some discussions and fact checking, the clinic agreed to write off any charges and let me go. Needless to say I won't be going back to them. read more

I had Dr Andrea Schiller for my dental work and Raffy did my x-rays and assisted Dr Andrea for the crown I needed. Why I needed it was very well explained. Dr Andrea showed the issue to me on the xray. It also made sense. Raffy, who did my x-rays, could not have been nicer! He's friendly, funny, and very easy to talk to. I haven't been in to the dentist in about 6 yrs, so I was a little nervous. He very quickly put me at ease. I got my teeth cleaned right after my appt and got scheduled for the next day for the crown. I was lucky they could do it so quickly as I didn't want to spend a lot of time thinking about getting the crown. Dr Andrea and Raffy, her assistant, made a very good team. I asked if they had something for anxiety as I've never used anything before and I was given nitrous through a nasal cannula with a clear cover over the nose, which I recommend. Not very expensive and totally took the edge off. They worked very efficiently and with the nitrous, I didn't have that feeling that I might not be able to breathe because of little splatters at the back of my throat. (Those with my same concerns know what I'm talking about.) I forgot to mention I got all of the estimated costs upfront with a lot of detail. I had complete dentures done by Midtown, and I am very pleased. Dr. Sydney was very caring and compassionate, and very gentle! Mr. Harper did a fabulous job on my same-day dentures. There were adjustments, of course, that needed to be made; the dental assistants were wonderful and helped me get through the first few weeks of adjustments. A very special thank you to Rafael for the final adjustment. My dentures fit perfectly now! The office staff were friendly and helpful. The only big negative I do have is the price; much more expensive than I had anticipated when I first made my appointment, but they did make me aware of the price before beginning work. read more

I called and try to schedule an appointment May 31st but there was a problem with my insurance. So then Brandon who took my call rescheduled me for June 6th 4 pm. So I just tolerated my tooth ache and took undertime of my work schedule to make it to my appointment. I showed up 15 mins early because I anticipated paper work. I sat down and after 5 mins someone took my name and bday. Then other pt comes in and they checked them in. So I approached the front desk again and asked if Im supposed to fill up new pt paperwork. Thats when she checked and told me I dont have an appointment. She told me she will reschedule me so I said Never mind. I drove home and called them to reach the Mgr. they put me on hold and never answered my call. read more

Had tooth extracted by Dr. Tudor and his assistant Laurin. What a great team. She explained everything including how the sedation works( I declined). Then the Dr came in very pleasant and friendly. Numbed me up and within five minutes tooth was out!. Offered me pain pills and I was in my way. Great service and made me feel at ease. Would recommend. Thanks for taking care of me. Do you enjoy making an appointment four months out, getting 10+ reminders about the appointment (including reminders that cancelling with less than 24 hours notice will result in full charge), and then having *them* call you an hour before the appointment to cancel? If so, Anchorage Midtown Dental is for you! Two (and nearly three!) of my four appointments were cancelled like this - the third one only happened because I complained vociferously that they'd already canceled an appointment on me. Do you enjoy being told you're coming in for a $250 cleaning, prepaying, then being told they're only doing half today, and being presented with an additional $530 bill at the end? And oh by the way, the other half will *also* be $780? Then Anchorage Midtown Dental is for you! Or are you a normal human being, who enjoys being able to reliably plan your appointments and knowing how much you're going to pay for the services? Then stay away. My husband and I went here a few times and we're worse for it. We have a fantastic dentist here in Seattle, but when we moved to Anchorage for a few years (due to a job change) we needed a new dentist. Anchorage Midtown Dental Center was recommended by a couple of people, but for the life of us we cannot figure out why. I needed a crown and ended up with a crown that is ill-fitting and too big. Also, in placing my crown the tool the dentist was using slipped he cut into my gums. I've never cried at the dentist before and the pain was so bad, I couldn't stop crying. It hurt for weeks afterward and I had a huge gouge in my gums. When I moved back to Seattle my dentist wasn't too thrilled with the work that had been done. My husband just called from his dentist appointment (here in Seattle) and was told that the crown Anchorage Midtown Dental Center said my husband needed and we had placed needs to be removed and my husband needs a root canal! WHAT?! Crowns are so expensive and it was just done about two years ago and now the crown has to come off because he needs a root canal?! I guess the tooth and root are so bad this is going to require surgery. I'm beyond angry at Anchorage Midtown Dental. We definitely do not recommend them. read more

We were in search for a new dental office and after searching clinics and reading reviews like crazy, we went with Midtown Dental because of so many raving reviews. The care is overall pretty good. The hygienist we were seeing is no longer there and I adored her. She was a breath of fresh air just being around her. The care from the Dr we have seen has been decent as well, however I was duped pretty badly for a treatment. I suffer from jaw clenching and he went on and on about how getting Botox injections would aid in this and weaken my jaw muscles, therefor alleviating my headaches. Of course since it's a medical need rather than vanity, I was also told my insurance would cover it. I'm no stranger to Botox, so I decided to move forward with it and made a special appointment for the treatment. He tried time after time to convince me to see him for my vanity driven treatments but I'll honestly say I'm not interested in having a Dentist perform such on me. Anywho... I go in for my injections into my jaw muscles and as I'm checking out, they require me to pay $500 up front for the treatment and as it turns out, insurance doesn't cover it and according to his office manager, "insurance never covers Botox and I wish he would quit telling patients that". Very disheartening to get that tidbit of info after I'm out $500 and a waste of a treatment because it takes multiple times to make an overall difference. As mentioned, the dental treatment always went well, merely cleanings, X-rays and checkups. The billing is a whole stressor in itself and although we were told we would always deal with the same people, we never did. Every time either one of us had a check up, billing was screwed up and rather than sending us a check or letting us know we overpaid, they held on to the money for 6 months until we had our next appointment. Boo hiss. At one point, the final straw for us, they tried to get me to pay double what I had the time before and I caught it prior to the treatment. Then they went on to tell me there was a credit and it would be applied to my husbands visit the following week. He was well aware of this and they insisted he pay the full amount prior to his appointment. It took half an hour to get it cleared up and even then, a credit to the account after the fact. There are clearly some training problems here or an unclear understanding of how our insurance works for them. Due to these situations, we have decided to go elsewhere for dental care. read more

I broke a tooth on a Sunday and was in desperate need of a dentist and decided to take a chance on the only place open on a Sunday. They got me right in. The staff were very welcoming and I was able to get an appointment right away to get my tooth fixed. It was really cool to watch Netflix while getting my teeth worked on. I will have all of my future dental work done here and will be recommending it to my friends and family. read more

Awful experience. Dr Jessica Burke came in and explained from the X-ray that my cavity was close to the nerve and might require a root canal. Then she proceeded to do the whole procedure chatting animatedly with the dental assistant THE ENTIRE TIME. She barely acknowledged my existence once she was done. After this the "Plan advisor" locked me into a small room and from her power seat, gave me the remainder of my recommended dental plan and tried to pressure me to sign and book immediately. I took the plan home and looked it over. It was over thousands of dollars after insurance, all of it was unnecessary replacement of old fillings and pulling 4 wisdom teeth that I've had for 15yrs, which my previous dentist advised me to ignore unless they caused a problem. The last straw earning this review 2yrs later? The filling she put in that day started falling out last week and was just confirmed by my current dentist yesterday. Meanwhile all of my 20-30 yr old fillings she advised replacing are still staying firmly in place. Thank God I ignored the advice. I guess she isn't as good at multitasking as she thinks she is. Now I need a crown and possibly a root canal due to her negligence. read more

I hate to update a lower stars review but I think it's very important to be able to give constructive feedback because this business has great reputation. As I have mentioned previously that I have high anxiety when visiting dentist offices and I decided to choose this office. They were very accommodating because they let me take a tour before I booked an appointments. What office does that?! It was a great way to feel more secure. I loved my doctor: Dr. Guy who is also visible in the community which I liked! I got paired with Kelly, RDH who unfortunately no longer works there. As a deaf patient I never ran into communication problems during 2ish years of my time there. In fact AMDC has really increased my confidence when visiting the dentist! Things were going well until my scheduled appointment. I decided to call using video relay service to verify everything re: that I'm seeing Kelly. The office informed me that Kelly is no longer with them. I was shocked and I freaked out because the appointment was for next day. Because AMDC has a strict cancellation policy with a fee of $175 (?) if it is not cancelled within their required window time frame. The person on telephone realized that there was a "flag" on my file to let me know that I'm seeing a new RDH. The person was kind enough to waive the fee and gave me an option to meet this person. I appreciated their effort, I do. However, my problem was that they already knew that I am deaf and I can be reached via email or text. I would have appreciated the courtesy of letting me know week in advance that I am not seeing Kelly which would have prepared me much better. But no meet and greet time slot worked for me and I decided to find other office in Anchorage. (This review has nothing to do with their facility, quality of procedures, and competitive price. After the dentist numbed my friends mouth for an extraction the Dr was very rude to my friend about the condition of his teeth. A front staff lady came to the chair side and demanded cash payment while he was in the dental chair numb. He was forced to pay them before they would proceed. Of course he did. They claimed to have had patients get up and run out of their office before paying. If that is the case they should be more Christian and help those in need. Very rude office. They didn't even politely end the procedure. The dr finished and left the room. Said nothing. They left him in pain after the extraction. Told him all done and to take aspirin and ibuprofen. read more

I called in around noon on a holiday weekend for a dental emergency. "My 4year old daughter keeps complaining of a sore tooth, and randomly sobbing the past day while holding her cheek". I am not a dental professional so I asked the front desk if the office could have the Dentist or their assistant give me a call or inform them of my call and "triage" the situation. Is this emergent, or am I just a panicked mother whose baby is having some pain? I also informed her that it would be my daughters first Dental appointment ever, and that I preferred to take her to a Pediatric Dentist but that being a holiday weekend did not know of anywhere else that was open for a couple of days, which she agreed and said she would give me a callback. The callback she said it was suggested I bring her in asap, which their next opening was the following day at 8am. She said they had a $99 Special going on for New Patient/Exam/Xrays, so I took what they had available but wishing the appointment was sooner. My daughter was taken in before 8am, and was not able to be seen until the bill of $99 was paid in full. This is where I start to already dislike the care my daughter was receiving. If you know my 4yr old child has been crying and in pain, I would think that ethically it would be priority to a Medical/Dental Professional to get that addressed, and worry about swiping my bank card for $99 before we left their office. For me, this showcases a lot of what their practice is about... Money and not caring for My Child. When I arrived to the office they swiped my bank card immediately for the amount due, and my daughter was then seen. She was then taken to have xrays done, a part of this $99 Special. Where the xrays are not even worth sending over to another dental office because they were horrible images/the roots were cut off and will have to be re-taken. Then the exam by the dentist... not a complete/first time exam but rather a focused on those two "emergent " teeth. Granted, the office looks great and the staff all polite I would NEVER recommend this office to anyone. I paid to have my daughter taken care of and left there feeling taken advantage of. It was a waste of time, and money. My daughter is still in pain, I called around on my own to get her in to an office who could address her tooth pain asap whom will have to complete another "Exam/Xrays" because none of it was completes for $99 at Anchorage Midtown Dental. It would have been appreciated if they would have said, yes it sounds emergent because of her pain and we dont really see 4yr olds here so I recommend calling all around town to get her in asap. Instead, they wasted my time while my daughters tooth pain went unaddressed, and my money for a $99 Exam/Xrays that are useless. read more

It's weird to enjoy a dentist visit. But, I have to admit I actually enjoyed my recent experience at Midtown Dental. My hygienist, Nicky, was awesome! She did a great job. I don't know WHAT I could have done to please the dental Gods so, but I must have done something to get lucky enough to see Anchorage's own Dr. McDreamy aka Dr. Blair Tudor!! Referred from a friend (and with a fair amount of work to be done) the intake process is AMAZING! Everything can be done online from the intake/new patient paperwork to scheduling an appointment. Upon arriving at my scheduled appointment time, I was greeted immediately -- and not that fake greet that you receive at some doctor, dental offices.. but a GENUINE, "hey! We're glad to have you!" welcome. Not to mention, that the facility is state of the art and I mean clearly, no expense was spared! Dr. Blair's bedside manner is AMAZING (aside from his gorgeous, PIERCING eyes!!) he was genuinely nice and makes you feel comfortable with the fact that he knows what he's talking about. There was no judgement, no ulterior motives, just a straightforward plan of action from a really nice guy that happens to be a doctor. Here's what I DON'T LIKE.. and I mean I REALLY loath. **Let me preface this part though, by saying that in this day and age this appears to be the norm for medical and dental offices.** ...so we have this really good (5*, PERFECT) appointment and then Dr. Blair vanishes and in walks a front desk admin. Dun, dun, dunnn... she proceeds to present me with my $20,000 treatment plan!! So yes, dental is stupid expensive and yes, insurance companies suck and pay as little as possible and yes, billing specialists (an entire career) has been created to try and sort it all out.. but let's not kid ourselves, my dentist isn't on a Ramen diet so why not stay with the admin to help drop the bomb on the patient? Maybe process the billing process and or, assist to explore less costly alternatives. This practice is indeed as good as it gets. I wasn't quite used to the common practice of paying up front, but once I got over it, all good. Candace, the Office Manager does a bang up job of keeping track of all the insurance coverages, copays, etc. so you know exactly what it's going to cost you. They recently underwent a massive remodel, and I really like the slick look of the place. The only down side is parking. The lot in front only takes four cars, but I think they have an arrangement at the lot directly across the street. Hasn't been a problem for me so far. On my first visit, I was assigned Dr. Jessica, and I hit a winner. She is very caring, cute, thorough, and professional. I needed a crown, and my anxiety and metabolism were running really high. Well, that negated the effects of the meds, and nothing was working as it should. Enter the IV sedation staff. These angels put me out, and a short medicinally-induced slumber later, crown work done! For some weird reason, here in Anchorage as it was in Homer, dental competition is fierce. I'm staying put with what I've found here at Midtown. read more

I like most people in the world really do not like going to the dentist... At all. Ever. I usually do insane amounts of research when picking a new dentist, calling everyone I know and their moms asking for recommendations and pine over my choices for way too long. Last week some raging, crazy making tooth pain sent me to the first place I could find open on a Saturday. I ended up at Anchorage Midtown Dental and I was prepared for the worst since I had not done my usual obsessing. Everyone from the from office staff to dentist was extremely nice despite the fact that I was a big ball of crazy. They went out of there way to make sure I was comfortable and new without me having to say anything when enough was enough. They took fantastic care of me and I will be making this my new regular dentist. I have never been so impressed with a dentist! I highly recommend them especial to those, who are like me and do not like the dentist! Oh and the office is really cool looking too. read more

I no longer have insurance just Medicaid and Medicare, which I understand is a hassle, but I was so disappointed when I called to have my teeth cleaned and I was informed I couldn't just have my teeth cleaned. Dr Adam suggested we try the least expensive coarse of action... a filling to see if pain subsided. I was aware it may not be enough. It turned out I needed a root canal and they squeezed me in the next a.m. ( a Saturday ) and got the work done. My California dentist was communicated too and all procedures recommended were confirmed by him. This communication made me feel comfortable and the staff and Dr. Adam were over the top on service. My 8 year old has multiple learning difficulties, and this office was the perfect fit for us! Joy (our hygienist) and Dr. Jessica (our dentist) put Novee at ease. In fact, Novee is so relaxed that she's not worried AT ALL about having a tooth pulled AND 3 fillings in the morning! This is unheard of for her! Novee was also very happy that she got a balloon and gets a coin tomorrow for the toy machine after her appointment. Tasha, the receptionist printed out the details of our insurance coverage AND an itemized statement of the treatment plan for my daughter. How helpful is that?!? She's awesome. Great place, I've had tons of dental issues, a few unnecessary root canals (done elsewhere) and most recently left BTY dental after discrepancies with what they were billing me for so I'm pretty skeptical of dentists. Had a couple cavities, root canal and an extraction done here. Unfortunately got dry socket with the extraction but was treated GREAT the entire time even free follow up visits for the tooth/jaw pain caused by dry socket. Love the decor, makes me want to bring everyone with me to show them the place. Love the front desk staff, super helpful with billing questions and up front with what needed to be done and what costs BEFORE doing treatment. Also they remember me by name. Doesn't hurt either that Dr Blair Tudor is a spitting image of Chris Pine. Didn't actually know really who Chris Pine was until I was arguing with me husband about seeing my dentist at the academy awards. "why is my dentist there???" This is an exceptional place from the second you walk in the door. Every single person there are great at what they do and are so enjoyable to be around. My appointments were booked quickly, the prices were affordable, and I had everything from the scheduling to the procedure to the payment explained to me perfectly. They are so good! They have great equipment. I had a cavity filled there last week and I was in and out in less than an hour! Even when I was getting the shot to numb me, there was absolutely no pain. I found the treament delivered by Jessica Burk DMD and her assistant Raechel to be exceptional. In specific, a full course of X-Rays were done, the placemnt of the image capture device was accurate and unerring, there was no need for frequent adjustment so NO discomfort. Jessica was a consummate professional, she exuded confidence and a depth of knowledge that was impressive. She was VERY thorough and answered all question to what ever depth of knowledge required. The lasting impression was a professional that provided unstinting care, in a detailed, attentive and pprofessinal manner. The only reason I went to this dentist is that they are open 7 days a week. The X-ray, cleaning, and fillings went smoothly. Staff is very friendly. The price at this dental office is twice as much as my old dentist. If you have Blue Cross Premera expect to pay 40% for fillings and 75% for crowns. My old dentist only charged me 20% for fillings and 50% for crowns. Also in small print on receptionist window it states there is a $120 charge for appointment changes within 48 hours of the appointment. This was my first and last time going to this dental office since they are so expensive compared to other dentists in Anchorage.
