We found exactly what we had envisioned and purchased a ring for her. When we gave it to her after returning to "the states" we couldn't have given her a better gift! We scooped up the shirt and a few other souvenirs for family, then made our way back out to the streets of Killarney. Great place to pick up last minute gifts also.

Kerry, we purchased what we thought was a men's wool sweater. It certainly seemed to be priced as a wool sweater. It was a gift for a family member back home. We found it in the upstairs area of the store. We gave our family member the gift last night only to discover the sweater was made from polyester. What a disappointment. We never thought to actually read the tag (our mistake) because the area of the store seemed to imply that the goods were wool items. This was a bit of an embarrassing mistake. The sweater certainly wasn't priced how we would expect a polyester product to be priced. My advice is to try not to assume, regardless of setting. If you're looking for something authentic, be sure to check the item and tags (if any) thoroughly. The other items we purchased all seem to be as expected.

I would say this is not really a con because the price was reasonable compared to other Irish wool products. The wool seems like it was of higher quality too. I loved this store and the town!!!!!! Quills has friendly staff, and a very big store. There's lots of items for sale, knitted Aran goods from sweaters to beanies to scarves. They also sell traditional Irish gifts. They sell clothing and boots. I had the best experience shopping here. The staff are very knowledgeable about all the knitted goods, and explain the history behind it. As a tourist, this was my best shopping experience in all of the Republic of Ireland! Whenever I make it back to Emerald Isle, I plan on spending the day in Kenmare and visiting this lovely store! I only wish I took pictures of the inside. If you are looking for Irish knits, nice clothing, or other Irish gifts, Quills is the place to be! You can pay with your Visa or Euros.

If the fully lit exterior doesn't draw you in, then the open doors, live music and pure energy is sure to! A combination of all three got us, and it was a glorious time! The bar is classic in all ways from layout, decor, live music, drink options, service, etc...a true local Irish pub that is welcoming, loud and fun. We were in Killarney for a few days and each evening walked by and this place stays packed, which initial was something we were not excited about, but we figured "why not!". The evening we wandered in, it was again packed, but everyone was moving and shaking to allow folks an opportunity grab a drink at the bar. There was also live acoustic music, which was great to stay and enjoy. We grabbed a pint, found a corner and just enjoyed the vibes...and of course the Guinness. We visited pubs all around Ireland on our trip and The Grand was one of the more memorable spots. Do not be deterred by the crowds, its packed for good reason!

The shelves are stocked with books sorted only into…read morethe broad sections "fiction" "nonfiction" and "children's", with no further organization than that. The carpet is decrepit as best, and actively decaying at worst. The place, at least when I visited, is strewn with cardboard boxes. And in an extremely baffling addition, the shelves are riddled with backpacks. That is not a typo, the number of backpacks sold here is inexplicably massive. The selection is equally strange, being dominated by poor condition paperbacks you might find at goodwill and literature textbooks that seem to have been purchased in bulk. In the bright side, if you do find something good the prices are actually excellent.

They have a decent selection of used books, mostly paperbacks and mass-market paperbacks. I'm a very picky reader so I didn't find anything for myself but I did enjoy just wandering through the store. The staff seemed friendly but I didn't get a chance to chat with them since I just popped in briefly.
