I had a nice lunch here. It's off the beaten track, in the small village of Bowes, a mile or so outside the larger town of Barnard Castle. I wanted a quiet lunch as the larger town was full of people - this place suited me well. It's tucked along the Main Street of Bowes. I was the only diner here when I arrived just on noon, but that didn't concern me. I chose the Chicken & Bacon Salad. It didn't take long to arrive and was nicely presented. A small bread roll was also provided, which was a surprise. I enjoyed the salad, it was generous with both Chicken and Bacon, along with lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, capsicum and mayonnaise. It was colourful. I enjoyed it. By the time I finished, a few other customers had arrived. The menu is varied, with the type of food you'd expect from a pub. There was also a wine list, that included really helpful tasting notes. Parking is on site. read more
