Greenwich Psychology Group - THERAPY FOR SOCIAL ANXIETY

Despicable and predatory business practices that prey on the already vulnerable. I was desperate…read morefor help, new and naive to having independent insurance, and thought my insurance would cover most of the (as I now know) ridiculously overpriced sessions. I was charged out of pocket a "sliding scale" amount of $325 (which was still more than full price as far as any other therapist would go) promptly to my credit card after every single session, and at the same time they filed a claim with my insurance for the full price $500. This is double billing, which if not out right illegal is at best shady. When I called my insurance I was informed of not only this wrong doing, but that as standard practice, a provider, out of network or not, who files claims with an insurance is not supposed to charge anything to patient until it has been processed through insurance. Further more, I was informed per my insurance's regulation they are only allowed to charge me ~$60 a session since they filed claims and thus entered into a contract with my insurance. I have called them twice with a representative from my insurance to explain in no uncertain terms what the situation was and to give them a chance to refund me. This was met with polite stonewalling nonsense that "they were not obligated to my insurance's laws because they were out of network." When I emailed them with extensive proof of my insurance's legal policy for out-of-network providers that shows that they legally can only charge 15% more than my insurance's allowed amount, I have been met with crickets. Since they have refused to refund me, per the advice of multiple representatives, I have filed a fraud suit with my insurance. As for my experience with the actual people, I had an incredibly brief "intake interview" with the Dr. Zackson, who's primary mission seemed to be getting off the phone with me as soon as possible instead of listening to my symptoms, I was pushed to take a male therapist when I'd explicitly expressed I wanted a female one. Outside of this, all the employees I came into contact with were polite, helpful, and seemed compassionate. And though I did not want a male therapist, I found use and made progress in the therapy I received before stopping treatment. But I cannot excuse this blatant exploitation of the vulnerable and the incredible audacity to continue to spout nonsense and withhold my money (which I desperately need as a self-supporting college student) when they are being confronted with the obvious reality of their wrong doing from multiple authoritative sources. Absolutely insidious behavior for a practice that claims to be about helping people.

When I first contacted Trevor, I was in the middle of a volatile divorce. A friend of mine urged me to call her saying that I just hadn't met the right therapist yet. I reached out during one of my lowest points. Trying to navigate through all of my emotions, I was feeling alone, scared and terrified. My initial contact with her was amazing! She was responsive immediately, calling right away and allowed me the time to explain where I was at and what prompted me to call her. She totally got it! I felt at ease from the moment that we spoke and that I was in the right place. My sessions over these years have been life altering. She has been there every step of the way. I've seen at LEAST…read morefive therapists, ranging in technique, demeanor, specialty etc but truly not one of them compares to Dr. Donahue. I originally sought out her support for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitntion and Reprocessing) to move through a trauma that I experienced at 13 years old. Shortly after we began treatment, I experienced another traumatic event and we quickly switched gears. Dr. Donahue is an agile psychologist who knows how to redirect attention and efforts on a whim. She helped me learn to trust myself by asking me pointed questions rather than giving me specific advice; she taught me how to set boundaries and most importantly, how to not feel guilty about doing so. She taught me how to be resourceful and utilize all of the tools I have cultivated over the years. She taught me how to utilize my friends/family/community as a tool as well. I ended my work with Dr. Donahue because I moved across the country but I would have actively chosen to stay with her had that been a possibility. I genuinely don't know where I'd be without her. I have never, in my entire life, felt so at peace and happy as I am right now. My recommendation for anyone looking to have a really impactful therapeutic experience is to do your homework. Show up to every session like you show up to work -- be prepared, get curious about yourself on your own time, come with questions and thoughts. Be OPEN and adopt a learners mindset.
