Nice to find an authentic Mexican restaurant in Lompoc. But even though we like spicy food, the mole and coloradito we had were just way too hot. The dried chiles that are normally used in those dishes aren't that spicy so I can only surmise that they're pouring a whole lot of hot sauce into them. This is a hidden gem in Lompoc! I found this place on Yelp last night and 3 of us tried it out. Everyone was 100% impressed with the service and flavor of the food! From the Albondigas soup (a rainy day specialty) to the veggie fajitas to the chicken en mole. I had the mole and it was spectacular. My son and I have ordered numerous times from Angela herself (the most amazing, hardworking, kind woman you could ever have the pleasure of meeting) & every single time we've been blown away. We've ordered tamales (best in the world....just saying) they're amazing! And I've lived and dined everywhere from Mexico to Hawaii to Oregon and so on. Recently stopped by this place with my friend while on a road trip north. We were both craving Mexican and came across this place. It's a rather large, somewhat hidden, and dated space. Kind of dark and empty too except for the first kitchen/greeting area. That said, the service was incredibly friendly and nice. The food on the other hand was not very good at all. I ordered the mole special which came with a side of rice and beans and corn tortillas. Frankly, it was a super sweet, not at all balanced and earthy, and a greasy mess. It had a weird aftertaste of cinnamon and was very thin, while the chicken was dry. The worst mole I've ever had. The worst part was the handmade corn tortillas. They were very thick to the point of looking a bit like pita bread, and dry and cold. Unlike any I've tasted before, and that's counting the worst of supermarket brands. My friend ordered a chile relleno combo plate and his was also strangely sweet and super greasy. The side salad it came with consisted of just iceberg lettuce with a huge blob of dressing. We couldn't finish either thing, but the service had been so sweet and nice that we felt bad leaving so much so asked for to go plates and then promptly tossed them out elsewhere. Wow! This place is amazing! HAND/HOME MADE TORTILLAS, the best I've tried thus far! I tried the Chili Colorado plate with corn tortillas and absolutely loved it. The flavor, the tenderness, the potatoes all were so delicious. It is slightly spicy. Different tolerance of spicy levels for everyone but this plate is definitely worth a try! The RICE was also-so very good! I'm not a huge pinto bean fan, but they were good. My bf ordered the chili verde plate with flour tortillas, and he loved it as well. He says the flavor and sauce was PERFECT bcs it was not too acidic. He really-highly enjoyed the beans! He also enjoyed the flour tortillas a lot, and so did I! I'd reorder the same plate with flour tortillas instead or maybe both corn and flour! I'd love to try their chimichanga next! We both think our plates were EXCELLENT! The best food I've had in a while! The portions are huge and affordable- the staff here are very friendly and the environment is inviting. Everything on our plates were good down to even the rice. I know rice is the easiest to make, but it doesn't always mean is made well. this place has got it down. Angela's looks like a hole-in-the-wall and is easy to miss. There's a small parking lot. We walked in and were greeted and told to sit anywhere. We were given chips and salsa like most mexican restaurants. We can tell right away that both were home made and the salsa had fresh onion and cilantro on top. The salsa is spicy, just a heads up. Each dinner comes with a small salad. They serve chicken mole! It's my favorite so I was very happy about this. My husband got chicken fajitas. It came with grilled onions, green and red bell peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini. Every thing was seasoned perfectly. Their corn tortillas are homemade and fresh! They are a bit thick but it's great to know they were handmade in house. We even got some extra to go. This is going to be our go-to for Mexican food. It felt like coming home to grandma's house. We had just returned from Mexico (10 days) to go camping for a week where we didn't much Mexican food. We were looking for good Mexican, and we found it! The "spicy" salsa was delish but the combo burrito with carne asada smothered in green sauce was seriously delicious! 5 out of the 10 people in my party got "Combo #10" they all practically licked their plates! The tamale was yummy, the enchilada sauce was perfect and the ground beef taco was good too!! Three shared this dish and it was more than enough! My only complaint is charging for more than 1 basket of chips and 1 refill on the soda....I'd say "stick to water" but the food is authentically delicious!
