Disappointing Grand Reopening After experiencing a longtime yearning for fried pickles and jalapeños, I was excited when Angels was opening their doors again after their remodeling. At first I attempted ordering online. No joy. Then, I tried via phone. No joy. Finally, I drove to the watering hole to order in person. After finally finally parking, I stood at the bar for 10 minutes before any of the four bartenders acknowledged my presence. When I asked to place a to-go order, he replied, "No can-do, boss man. We're too busy for to-go orders, but you can dine-in." Come on, man. Guess I will try again in a random Tuesday afternoon. Maybe then Angles will want my patronage and money. read more

Inside has very few tables that aren't bar seating and the food isn't the best quality. The fries are thinner than I'd like and the power bowl with chicken instead of shrimp was fairly bland. The servers aren't the kindest either. And there are always kids around so not a place I'd recommend if that's not your vibe. read more

We are regular visitors and we bring all of our out of town guests here. Recently, we have noticed a decline in service, particularly when we sit at the bar. We love sitting there but our last visit, we arrived around 5:50 and wanted to grab a happy hour drink. The bartender ignored us until well after 6 and refused to charge the happy hour price. It's not that we cannot pay more for the drinks but we always prefer to save on drinks and then take great care of our servers. We were really disappointed in how we were treated. Dog friendly spot with good service. I ordered a burger and sweet potato fries. The burger was okay. It wasn't terrible but I've had better. The food came out promptly. Our waitress was super sweet and made sure the doggo had plenty of water. There's also indoor seating with TVs inside and outside. It was a quaint little spot. Touristy but fun! Outdoor area is the monkey-cage for ill-behaved kids. If you don't have wild kids, eat indoors. Decent bar, good food, live music on the weekend, and plenty of people-watching! Try the Angel Meltdown for a more potent margarita variation! Plenty of IPA's, along w other interesting beers - even from Deep Ellum (our home turf)! I like Angels. Good food and ambiance. But this trip service was poor. After seating myself, I had to go up towards bar to get a waitress' attention. She had been busy visiting with co-workers sitting on the other side of the bar. Pleasant enough when she took my order. When I was ready to pay my bill, I couldnt get her attention. I finally walked up to her position (sitting on the other side of the bar) and handed her my cc. I know finding good people can be difficult. Perhaps she needs training. Sitting behind the draft beer dispensers (cant see floor) chatting with co-workers while ignoring customer/s trying to wave her down is not the kind of service I wish to have. I intend this review as constructive; not just being critical. My meal was otherwise very tasty. read more

Lovin' the beer garden here! Beer selections are very good - tonight's fav is Oktoberfest - and I had the best beef taco salad I've had in a very, very long time! Perfect balance of seasoned ground beef, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole without being over-salted or too spicy! Live music on Friday and Saturday nights, the lights strung between the mature Mesquite trees, tables with comfy Adirondack chairs and it wasn't buggy even after heavy rain this week. All ofcombined makes this spot a perfect weekend hangout! Update-May 1, 2020: Had to get an Angel burger today on the 1st day of re-opening after the Covid shut-down! Staff handled everything expertly - Angel burger, medium, with lettuce, tomato, pickles and ketchup was delicious! Plenty of space between tables (always was) and to eat in the beer garden for the 1st time in 6 weeks was pure joy! (No music for awhile and the kiddie area is closed but that's okay! Second time to Angels. We come from about 3 hours away to visit the area and stopped by. Love it here. Both times have been amazing food. Highly recommend for food, service, and atmosphere. Get the chicken fried chicken with queso on top, you won't regret it! Only complaint is that we got margaritas at reverse happy and never took the $1 off the 3 we purchased. If you order takeout, make sure you check your order before you leave. Paid +$4.00 (+$2.00 each burger) for avocado on 2 burgers and they never put it on the burgers. Fries were a little soggy. There used to be a lot more places like this in Austin -- a laid back place serving comfort/bar food. Two of us went to Angel's on Saturday afternoon for a very delayed lunch or early dinner. First, we found their bottled beer was some of the coldest around. The chips and queso were good. But the guacamole was first rate as was the salsa. However, the real stars were the main dishes and dessert. The BBQ bacon cheeseburger is one of the better burgers in the Austin area and the chicken fried steak is far and away one of the best in the area as well. If I had one suggestion for the next visit, I'd skip the appetizers in favor of the lemon icebox pie, which is the perfect cool treat for a summer afternoon. On the most minor of notes, I skipped ordering my usual iced tea because the only sweetener available was stevia. read more

I really like this place because of the atmosphere. Playground for kids, lots of seating, love music, many mature trees and it's dog friendly. The only reason it doesn't get 5 starts is because the food leaves a lot to be desired. I've tried multiple menu items and I've not really been impressed with anything. My other half likes "The Hangover Cure", however. It's basically chicken fried steak smothered with queso. Although, I personally think you could another anything with queso and it'll taste good. Lol I do like the fried pickles and jalapeños with Chipotle ranch dipping sauce. Anyway, come here for the drinks and atmosphere but don't expect a lot out of the food. read more

So pumped to FINALLY stop and try this place out. LOVE that they use hormone and antibiotic- free meats! It's like higher quality bar food. Yeah! Got the chicken strips which were hot, juicy, and crispy. Sadly, my onion rings underneath were soggy by the time they arrived. Think that was bad timing on the part of the cooks. The boyfriend had the wedge salad with chicken which was soo good, I tried to eat most of his too. But really, this place is all about the atmosphere. Great live music, tons of outdoor seating - the whole restaurant is open really, a big playground for the kids, dog friendly Etc etc. We will definitely be back. Angel's has re-opened and the new concept is a homerun! The cozy family-like atmosphere, outdoor space and live music- still there. The fabulous Burgers, fries and bar food selection- still there (and still taste great- might I add). Yes, you now have to order your food via an App and the food comes from a Food Truck, but this is really the only change. For those of you who can think outside the box, this is a win win. Order your food before you even arrive and when you get there, have one of Angel's fantastic and attentive servers bring you your favorite beverage of choice, sit back and enjoy the beautiful Texas hill country while listening to their always great selection of live music. Bartenders seem to be too slow to look up to see that there are people wanting a drink. They always seem to be busy with waitresses' drink orders. On the weekends, there should be more than 2 bartenders. I suggest 4 for the size of the bar and restaurant. read more
