This is another one of those delightful second-hand bookshops, but then again pretty much every…read moresecond-hand bookshop that I encounter is a delightful bookshop. Okay, this one is rather small, so do expect to find a huge selection here, which is a bit of a shame because I have basically arrived at a point where the only books that I am looking for are books that tend to be a lot rarer, and even out of print. However, like all second-hand bookshops, it is still a delight to spend some time wandering around and exploring places like this.

I guess that is why I love these shops, because it means that I can spend time perusing their collection and seeing if there is anything that grabs my attention. Unfortunately, in this case, there wasn't. It doesn't necessarily mean that it is bad though, because I still quite liked it.

The quality of the garment and fabric was inconsistent with my experience of the label purchased (I own a few from the brand from recent years) and I was unhappy with the dress. There was insufficient information on the listing for me to know that the fabric being used was very different from their usual standard of rayon, the pictures provided gave no indication of the fabric either. For me, the item did not meet description. I wrote to The Freedom State requesting the ability to return the item, as they do not usually accept returns on sale items as per policy. They wrote back with a stock standard response, refused to take back the item. Offered 10% discount on my next purchase, which is useless because I won't ever purchase from them again when there are so so many other online retailers that care about customer satisfaction. The Freedom State = online order fail. I'll be shopping elsewhere in the future.

But this is not your regular, perfect customer service place. Oh no. Despite the expensive brands and lovely website pictures. Shame I cannot add pictures of the expensive ($169), popular Chicko boots, which I bought late Sep 2018. After just 5 months, the heel completely opened up, showing some weird paper material inside. This happened after just 5 months of occasional wear (as over the summer in Sydney, so I wore them REALLY sporadically!). End of story: The customer service at the Freedom State is terrible - they emailed back saying that they won't refund/replace, neither did they offer to repair the faulty boots, just suggested lightly that they'd pay 15$ towards the PARTIAL cost of the cobbler's services!!! Part of me was amazed at this brazen unprofessionalism. The shoes that won't even last a whole season with very light wear? Judge for yourself!

On the other, I ordered custom dining chairs, rang constantly for 6 months to see what was going on, got the run around every time and then had them tell me it was going to be even longer so I asked for my money back. Which they gave. But that left me very disappointed. So for in store purchases I highly recommend. But for ordering custom made items, no sorry lost my vote due to poor service.

And then we discovered what being on the edge of the Palm Beach Central Business District was about. We found this incredible store - Sealife Interiors - that had some of the most attractive and unique home wares imaginable, with a real commitment to style and individuality. Pete and Paul, the owners, have created an oasis of oceanic treasures that are capable of making any house a home, with a funky range of furnishings that are often one-of-a-kind. There's everything from shell creations to drift wood sculptures, special fabrics, lighting, sofas, chairs and other classics that are rarities and not priced for just the rich and famous. We've added oodles of oceanside charm to our home for less than $300 and this place is highly recommended if you have a beachside residence, or are just a fan of everything ocean to decorate your abode anywhere you live. The guys also specialise in interior design and decorating so if there's something special you're after, just let Pete know. He'll turn it into the perfect item that you've always been passionate about.

This is a beautifully-merchandised high end decor and clothing store that stocks a lust-worthy…read morehoard of blue and white china, including ginger jar lamps, bowls, platters and hand-painted teapots and cups, a stunning range of South Pacific imports, including huge cowrie shell adorned mirrors and ornaments and bone inlay boxes. They have a particularly amazing selections of cushions, if that's your thing (it's certainly mine), including absolutely beautiful Bonnie and Neil hand-screened cocktatoo and pineapple cushions, bright neons and jungle leaf. They do also sell a few beautiful bits of furniture, including the occasional pretzel chair or other to-die-for piece. The clothing is sort of Bohemian chic--think lots of floaty white caftans spruced up with a tassel or splash of neon. It's by far the best place to browse at the Brickworks and the service is excellent.

Sure, the Gold Coast is a city so I'm sure they would have their second-hand bookshops, but this place literally blew me away. I have never seen so many books crammed onto books shelves in my life, In fact the interior of the shop is a maze that you could end up being lost in for days (though I would probably end up finding you hidden in a corner with a pile of books that you have always wanted to read). Also, it is not one of those boring shops with reused copies of popular fiction - it has literally everything, including antique books. I was only here for ten minutes before my brother was loaded up with books to by, and I had to purchase them and leave because I suspect they wouldn't have let me on the plane to get home. If there is one reason why I want to return to the Gold Coast and it is this place.
