Ok, so...this salon is not luxurious as you probably think it is. It's on a second floor of an old building and there's ONLY 2 nail techs working the WHOLE time. I came here out of convenience because I had to go to an event closeby - nope I was wrong, so wrong. I had made an appointment online for dip mani and gel pedi for 5:20 pm. I arrived at 5:06 pm and there's only 2 nail techs but I was calm thinking oh maybe the other customer is almost done - nope I was wrong. They looked at me and I said "I made an appointment online" and the guy just looked at me like what are you talking about. So he made me sit on a chair and wait. I waited and the lady who is doing someone else's nail came over and put acetone on my dip, I waited for a while. I waited so long that the acetone dried up and the cotton stuck on my nails.....yea you can see how this is going. The other girl was done and at this time it's 6 freaking pm and I have an event at 6:30. I was already going to be late. She is recycling the pumice thing that is being rubbed on people's feet like NO WHY ARE YOU GUYS DOING THAT. That's so unsanitary - I'm cringing at this point ok. She uses this scrub which smelled so bad omg. And her gloves are all torn and ripped and I'm really crying at this point inside my head. She then uses a hot towel on my feet and the towel smells too - and it's not the good smell cause I had to stop breathing while she was flapping it. She also used an already open and used toe separator....will it get any better than this? There is no sense of urgency here at all. It was 6:40 and I was still there and none of my nails are painted. I went here for the first time today and i'll definitely go back! The service was great and Nam did a great job on my nails and feet. Also...you can't beat $35 bucks for a mani and pedi in the city...granted I'm from brooklyn, NY and you get a mani and pedi for under $20 dollars, but who knows the last time the board of health has gone into those establishments...just saying Also...I listened to my fellow yelpers and made an appt. OMG!!!!! This place is the absolute worst. It's DATED!! OLD! Dusty! & Filthy. I should have turned right around and left seeing that I was the only customer in the salon. The pedicure wasn't HORRIBLE but it wasn't AMAZING either. I have dry cuticles and am accustomed to people spending a lot of time on that. He hardly took anything off my cuticles. I wasn't upset being that I came to this place in a crunch & I didn't have all day to be serviced. The end result of the pedicure was decent enough for a few days. Next stop... acrylic fill with gel polish. He starts drilling the previous gel off. All is well until he's about go prime my nails for the fill-in acrylic. I had to stop him and let him know that he left 1/2 of my nail with old gel color. He said he thought it was ombré. Back to more drilling. This time he burned me 3x with the drill. OUCH. Red spots in my nails. Finally the majority of the gel is off. He says I have some "blue" under my nail. Apparently moisture was underneath my old acrylic and fungus has started to build. TOTALLY NOT HIS FAULT. He said he would fix it I said fine. He chipped away on 3 of my nails that had the fungus or whatever. He then drilled everything smooth again and stated the fill. Whole time I'm thinking I should have these nails taken off BUT I have a big event tomorrow. Fill done. Polish time. The polish isn't looking too cute. Now I am able see how wavy the acrylic is and how clumpy and uneven the gel is. Looks like a 5th grader did these nails. At this point I am SUPER annoyed. Paid Left Thought NO. I don't have $60 to just give away. I went back inside. Complained. The ladies didn't say much because they knew as well as I do that my nails are horrible. The older guy who did my nails gets upset and starts screaming and yelling and threatened to call the police. It was an entire scene. I suggested maybe he take a class and they clean up that dump of a nail shop. ITS HORRIBLE read more

However, I realized they were too long for me so texted him a few days later asking if he could trim them. He said yes with no hesitation and did not charge me extra. I really wanted to like Nam's because of the convenient location right off of Cleveland Park metro but was tremendously disappointed by my manicure. I came in around noon on a Tuesday and despite the lack of other customers, I was handed off twice to different manicurists so that they could take care of their regulars. Cool. The trimming and filing (seesaw) was done quickly and haphazardly. Paint on my nails did not start from the cuticle line. There were so many empty spaces that i had to repeatedly ask for them to be filled in. Once i stepped outside feeling a huge sense of regret, I was shocked at the color of my polish. Inside it had looked grayish blue, but clearly the lighting was not bright enough for me to see that it was a baby blue and had almost no shine. For $20? Go somewhere else. They also charge an extra $2 if you use card. read more

This nail salon is located above St. Arnold's Mussel Bar on the southeast corner of Connecticut and Ordway. It may look a bit sketch as you approach the building and stairs, but I promise it's great! The salon overall was clean and I watched the nail techs open tools from sealed plastic casings and use the disinfectant at the pedicure stations. The techs weren't the friendliest, but I was there with a friend so we were chatting the whole time anyway. We both got pedicures and I was very pleased. Great price for the area ($28) and they run a special for a mani/pedi during the week for $32. Will definitely go back! read more

I have been using this shop for about 14 years, before Nam took it over from Elegant Nails and renamed it. Nancy, the new owner of Nam's Posh Nails is doing a great job. I am very particular in my mani/pedi standards, and usually get a gel manicure. Nancy has personally done my nails many times since taking over the store, and is very conscientious and quick. Normally, I choose something rather conservative, but when I don't, she's patient and good at helping choose colors, and even did a beautiful red/white/blue gel design for me a few days before July 4 that got many compliments from my friends and coworkers, and that will easily last through Bastille Day. I'll try to post a photo. Moreover, Nancy takes pride in the shop and has been fixing it up with new, comfortable pedicure chairs, chandeliers, and stations for storing a now extended array of polish choices from multiple companies. She has instituted new safety measures (such as disposable plastic liners for the pedicure tubs), in addition to the autoclave. I have paid attention to safety since the shop came under new ownership, and the employees always unseal from the plastic a new set of tools for each customer, and wash the tub after a pedicure. Nancy and her staff are always cheerful, and she often stays late after her 8pm closing to make sure all of her customers are taken care of and walk out happy. I have also had Holly do my nails, and she is also excellent and quick. It's important to support the local neighborhood places! True to guidance from fellow Yelpers, Nam's is located on Ordway on the same side as St. Arnold's. I almost missed it because I thought it was farther down the street, but it's right behind the restaurant and upstairs. I followed a girl upstairs for my 5 pm eyebrow wax appointment. She requested an eyebrow wax as well (crap!) and a pedicure. Nam turned to me and asked what I wanted in a nice way. I told her I had a 5 pm eyebrow wax appointment, and she took me first. Yay! Eyebrow wax was good. I think I prefer the treatment from V Nails in Columbia Heights for a couple of reasons: 1.) it's cheaper ($10 at Nam's, $8 at V's), 2.) the technician at V's takes a little more time and sculpts and thins, and 3.) it's closer and slightly easier for me to get to. That said, I thought Nam was very nice and polite. She was appreciative of my 20% tip although fished out change from her wallet... As others have noted, they do have boxes to keep your tools. The boxes were neatly stacked and labeled by the door when you come in. The environment for 5 pm on a Thursday was nice and quiet. I like that. Nam did call me at 5:08 pm when I had not showed up, but I didn't realize this until I left at 5:20 pm, so be prompt! Other than that, great place to check out if you're in the 'hood. read more

I normally go to Cleveland Park Day Spa when I need a pedicure. But I keep coming across glowing reviews for Nam's so I had to try it for myself. I made my appointment a few days in advance, changed it one day early, and then showed up over an hour early. The place was packed when I arrived and Nam didn't seem happy about my poor scheduling abilities even though I apologized profusely. Fortunately, she didn't send me away and I didn't have to wait long. The pedicure itself was rushed and I'm not sure if it's always like that or if it was because it was so busy. However, the pedicurist who worked on my feet, Le (pronounced "lay"), was very sweet and did a meticulous job. The massage chairs are the most high tech I have ever seen as far as pedicure chairs go. This place is phenomenal. I've had my nails for a week and a half (acrylics) and they have not chipped. I moved a fully built heavy tv stand up a two story walk up with these nails and assembled an ikea shelf with my acrylics and NO CHIPS!!! There have been times when I was sure I was gonna break a nail when I used them for things like getting my nail under a latch to open the toolbox, but they've stayed on!! The guy who did them was super detail oriented and shaped the nail before and after the paint and even picked out the acrylic stuff from under the nail. Overall phenomenal job with very friendly staff. The person who did my nails had over 20 years of experience so he knows what he's doing. Only downside is that they only have one machine for acrylics, and both me and my friend wanted them so we had to wait two hours for our nails to be done instead of one since we had to go one at a time. But for the quality of service and product, I wouldn't go anywhere else. I've taken pics of when I first got them done and after I moved and assembled furniture with them on. read more

This used to be Nam's Posh Nail. A new owner bought the business and seems to have also taken over the Yelp page for Nam's. But I find it very undeserving of the great reputation that Nam's built. Since this has been under new ownership I have gotten gel nails done here twice and both times, the gel chipped off within a few days. Whereas Nam's always had a very fresh and clean feeling, Anna's use of acrylics leaves the place with an overpowering toxic smell. I really wanted to like this place which is why I gave it a second chance after my first bad mani, but I do not think I can go here again. Missing Nam's. read more

WORST nail salon experience I've ever had! I went to Anna based on the 4-star review, only to learn later that the rating is so high because the current owner somehow acquired all the positive reviews from the previous business. There is NO WAY this salon could achieve multiple stars. The "technician" who I was assigned to took one hour for a basic pedicure. Afterward I noticed the cuticles weren't even trimmed. Basically she rubbed lotion on my feet for one hour. I was supposed to get a gel manicure, but I had to stop the process after she filed one hand because she made the nails totally round when I asked for square. I even used google translate to make sure she understood because she doesn't speak English. She obviously has no clue how to do nails. The male tech in the salon clearly has issues with her because in between the pedi and mani they were screaming at each other--so loudly that the customer next to me and I exchanged looks and raised eyebrows. I found out he was yelling at her for being incompetent. He told me she has no idea what she's doing after I complained about the nail shape. He appeared to be the owner, so I asked the most obvious question -- what is she doing working here?! No good answer. Please don't waste your time and money at this horrendous salon. It's now called Anna's (can't tell yet if anyone has stayed on under new management/owner) and has a new pricing structure. Still great service and quality, but nam's GIANT selection of colors has been significantly reduced. Hopefully they build that back up again. This place is the pits. I arrived 20 minutes early before they opened at 10 am and no one was there. Understandable. But soon it was 10:10. I was standing outside. It was cold and raining. Finally someone arrived and I had to help them get inside because they could not figure out the keys. I was getting a gel chrome manicure. My nails were all warped and just too messy. I tried to tell them that they were using to many coats of polish but they did not agree. The woman told me it was my fault, that I was bumping them on the light. No way because I wanted to get out of there! Two and a half hours later I still did not have a finished manicure. My nail beds are raw from all the buffing and polish remover. The worst nail salon that I have ever been to. I first started off with a man doing my pedicure, he was filing it so unevenly with an old, beat up file. I kept having to ask him to file the nail straight. When the other lady, Annie, was finished with her client she came over to massage and paint my toes. She didn't even paint the full nail so when I asked her to do it, she globbed it on. I then asked her to please remove it and fix it, and she told me to, "SHUT UP." I came here for a Brazilian Bikini Wax. After reading reviews about how great and affordable this salon is. The people were nice. She had a trainee in the room while my wax was being administered and I had no problem there. The wax was one the least painful ones I've ever received. So why won't I give it a 5 or 4.. 1.) I saw her double dip about like 2x. She was quick in the beginning to tell me she didn't do that, but then I witnessed it with my own eyes. I think it was a mistake but needless to say it happened. 2.) I've had the worst break out IN MY LIFE from the wax. About 2 days later I noticed it, and it got progressively worse. I got the wax back in May and I'm still traumatized. It took me about a month in a half to clear up everything. I thought I had found the place to start getting waxed, but this is not it. read more

I love this place for waxing. I get brazilian waxed here and it's great! In addition to being super affordable, she's gentle, calm, and never rushes me. There was only one time when she made me wait 20 min for my appointment but I like to think it was a rare slip up and will never happen again. Other than that one time, she's always consistent. Punctual, nice, gentle, and professional. I'm usually in and out the doors within 25-30 minutes. Note: I've tried over bougie places for a long time and their consistency sucked. They would sometimes rush me, not hold my skin tight, and/or give me the speech of "oh your skin/hair is so difficult" so that I'd feel bad and tip them extra. It was horrible and expensive. Anyway I decided to try this place out after reading their reviews. They definitely didn't disappoint! Their gel colors are insane and extremely extensive, so have a color in mind when you walk in. They made a point to make sure I was comfortable and offered me drinks, snacks etc. They also had a few regulars who walked in while I was there, which is always a good sign. I tried out Nam's recently and was instantly a fan. They take appointments and walk-in's. I've had both manis and pedis and been fully satisfied. Their location is one floor up on Ordway just off of Connecticut. There are 5-6 manicure chairs and 6 or 7 pedicure chairs. It's very clean and everyone is friendly. You can help yourself to a free bottle of water from their fridge, which they gladly offer you upon arrival. Wendy did my mani/pedi and she was very nice and apologetic for my "long wait" (which was less than 5 minutes). She took plenty of time with me and I never felt rushed. They have a nice polish selection of OPI and Essie. When Wendy looked at my color, she instantly went back to the wall to grab a newer bottle of it to make for a better paint job. My nails for some reason dry here so quickly. I love that. Wendy carefully went around my nails with a paintbrush with nail polish remover to make sure no paint was on my skin after the fact (instead of using her own nail to do that - thank you Wendy). The pedi chairs are big and have remotes for adjustable massage THAT ACTUALLY WORK. :) The chairs feel new, too, which is always nice. I'll definitely be back to Nam's...it's the poshest! read more

After years of living in Europe where waxing for women and men is extremely ubiquitous, I worried about where I would be able to find comparable waxing services in DC. Since I live right across the street from Nam's, it seemed like a logical first place to try out. I decided to try out a relatively low risk area before I committed to the full monty so I walked in for an eyebrow wax. Nam did the waxing herself, and she was very quick, careful, and as I flinched during that moment of truth reveal in the mirror, I realized she had done a perfect job! I booked up for a brazilian and full legs right then. The second visit for brazilian and full legs went off without a hitch. I had become accustomed to brazilians being done with hard wax (no strips), so I winced in pain when I saw the soft wax and strips come out for my nether regions! However, I was pleasantly surprised when the pain was actually less than with the hard wax! Thank god. I mentioned to Nam this method was new to me and she actually explained the benefits of the soft wax and why she chooses to use it. I appreciated her expertise and ability to explain the "what, why, and how" of it to me. Only downside was I came at my appointment time right on the dot, and Nam was already waxing someone during my time - the salon was empty besides us two customers. Luckily I was not in a hurry as it was lunchtime, so I decided on a quick mani to pass the time while I waited. Hopefully that doesn't become a common occurrence. Further, Nam is a very sweet woman who makes you feel comfortable right away bearing it all. Clean, bright and airy featuring granite countertops. Where else have you seen a chandelier in a nail salon? I needed a gel polish at a reasonable price and the positive Yelp reviews I had read on this spot all proved true. Even the UV dryers were clean and shiny. My manicurist, Lynn, has worked here over five years. She asked me if I wanted something to drink (yes, water please) and she even provided me with a hot towel at the end. I think $30 was the right price here in the big city too. I would like to return for a pedicure. They plastic wrap the foot bowls to ensure cleanliness. Flat screen TV showing the Redskins game (on mute) and upbeat music in the background all lead to a very welcoming atmosphere. I'll be back! read more
