Dogs aren't allowed inside but they look awful cute outside

Yes. Revamp done, doors open and the music is playing! Could do with a few extra seats inside - I can see it's going to be hard to find one soon enough. Great spot for the young and the musos. Great quirky menu - wagyu schnitzel is a goer! Now just keep the kids out and up at The Empire and I'll be baaaaaack!!!

Once the home of Australian Rock n Roll now a typical eclectic blend of inner west families, beards and tattoos. Still has a fantastic local music scene. Front bar has mainstream lagers, pilsners and ales. The back bar has a constantly changing selection of craft beers. The bistro has a wide selection of pub food. Lamb shoulder is my favourite however the Schnitzel is also great and the kids menu comes with a dink and ice cream. Staff are very friendly. Courtyard and back area is great for kids. They have colouring books and games. Front area is great for watching a band, a game of football or playing pool. They do breakfast now too, but I haven't tried that yet.

Many tears were shed when the Annandale Hotel mounted their unexpected 'For Sale' sign. Rumours spread and the Inner West was abuzz with panicked whispers. Will The Annandale still be a live music venue? Having already lost a dear venue in The Hopeton (Surry Hills), the loss of the Annandale, or even the wrong kind of refurbishment, would be devastating to Sydney's live gig enthusiasts. The Annandale Hotel is a great venue that rocks the underground music scene. It's not pretentious, just rock solid music in a simple no fuss venue. Bar staff rock along to the music with as much fervour as the crowd, their ears protected by fluro yellow plugs. The modest stage hosts a range of rock and indie bands (my most recent: Jim Ward and Jebediah) that often include the bar in their perimeters of the stage, reaching every member within the intimate space. Whilst the future of the venue is yet to be written, in the meantime I will continue to attend as many Annandale gigs as possible, making the most of the dirty, scummy dive pub where bands earn their stripes.

Annandale has a rich history of rock and or roll. It has seen the likes of the Dandy Warhols, The Vines and The Cruel Sea grace its stage. The name Annandale Hotel, not to be confused with the North Annandale Hotel unless you want to be half an hour late to a friends gig, is synonymous with pub rock. The pub also offers Pub Cha on Saturday and Sunday nights. A pub oriented Yum Cha, (Editors Note: Interesting fact: Yum Cha literally translates to 'Drinking Tea.' Where as Pub Cha can more closely translate to 'Pub Tea.') while during the rest of the week, another clever little word play which infuses the Annandale's Rock and Roll history with the art of Chinese Cuisine is available with Wok 'n' Roll. They also hold movie nights with their Tuesday evening, 'Cult Sinema' run by Jay Katz (Film Historian) and Miss Death. The Annandale is a laid back relaxed place to get a drink when the walls aren't shaking and the stereos pumping and the courtyard area, which also acts as the Wok 'n' Roll restaurant, has a great atmosphere.

Oh noes! Why is The Annandale Hotel sporting a for sale sign?! Let this not be the end of another beloved music venue? The last time I visited was such a sublime evening. I met up with a friend for a delicious and sizeable Wok n' Roll feast before the gig - it had been a long day so a fresh and tasty stir fry was just what the doctor ordered. So much better than hitting up McDonalds across the road! The beer garden/Wok n Roll area is quite lovely. It was filled with happy campers and had a nice fresh ambience - with nary a hint of the loud Parramatta Road that roars by just around the corner. Inside things start to look a little worn - well, perhaps 'pre-loved' is a better description. The couches lining the reception room have definitely seen better days, but after standing up for the rest of the night, they do come in handy! The Annandale is too well located and too well loved to go the way of the dodo. Fingers crossed someone stages a rescue!

I came for Burgers by Josh but was pleasantly suprised in the makeover that the pub has had. The menu is small but good. I had the J burger which was good. The beef patty was cooked well and the buttermilk bun is meant to be the softest in Sydney. They have a secret menu which can be found on instagram or if you ask the great bar staff they can help you out too. I had a side of fries which were like any other shoe string fries you can get from a fast food chain. Overall the burger was tasty but next time I would try another fry option with toppings.

Perfect on a cold wet night!

Ventured through the main bar into a quieter area and cosied up in a booth. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good range of wines. A great night!

You won't find a better pub in Sydney that serves up better food than "Wok n' Roll" at the Annandale Hotel. The perfect mid-week or pre-show feed, the menu caters for almost all diets, with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options, the staff are always happy to accommodate. While the weekend pub cha menu isn't quite as vast or versatile, I've never had a bad meal here. Everything is fresh and tasty with the right amount of spice.

The Annandale Hotel is well known for housing great live music. It's one of the few great places left that does it in a pub environment. There's been some massive names here and it's stooped in history. It's been close to having their doors shut a few times because of noise complaints but lets hope that never eventuates! Although there are other things to do if there aren't any bands. It has quite a nice beer garden and bistro out back. It's nice to get some light as I'm not sure when the last time The Annandale Hotel saw natural light indoors. The bistro is a great addition and does some really nice Thai food and also does some fantastic pub cha which is basically yum cha in a pub. If you've had a big night there watching a pub what better place to head back the next day and recap the night over some pub cha. Love it!

This time, my old friend, who is a local, invited me to The Vic On The Park for dinner. Through the street filled with lots of Mom 'n Pops shops on Enmore Rd, I arrived at the destination. It looks like an ordinary pub, but it has a patio in the back and even a basketball court! Wasting no time, I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel and a pint of beer. They had a pretty extensive list of craft beer. The chicken schnitzel was a bit different from what I usually eat. It was covered with ham and smothered with tomato sauce, somewhat leaning toward Chicken Parmesan. I guess the breading makes it more Chicken Schnitzel than others? But besides this little fuss, it tasted as good as it looked. Juicy-Inside-Crispy-Outside was perfect despite being endangered of getting soggy by the tomato sauce. A bit of a stretch from where I usually stay, but it's definitely a great place to be with locals instead of tourists.

It is a little hard to find, being in the backstreets, but it is an awesome pub nonetheless.

I took a train directly from Sydney international airport to Newton station, about a minute walk to the hotel. It has an urban, hipster vibe similar to what you would see in Berkeley or Oakland, California (think reclaimed wood and local artwork. I booked at the last minute and was pleased with my stay. I got the queen room which came with a kitchenette. The furnishings were new and they designed the room to make the most out of the space, but the room was super cramped, including the bathroom. There was about two feet of space between the foot of the bed and the wall. I was only in my room in the evening so this was was fine with me. You should upgrade to a bigger room if you plan on staying in the room for part of the day. You can tell they focus on being eco friendly. You'll find a lot of reclaimed wood around the hotel, wooden room keys, and nice, eco friendly soaps and toiletries in the room. They also provide fruit, pastries and tea in the lobby around 7am. The staff was also accommodating - they let me keep my luggage locked up in the lobby during the day after checking out! Note: if you plan on returning to the hotel in the evening, make sure you bring your room key with you. You'll need to swipe it on an access pad to get into the lobby since there's no one on duty after 9pm. One night when there was a super unhappy guy shouting on the sidewalk since he didn't bring his room key and there was no one manning the front desk to let him in...and then it started raining when he was out there. Very unfortunate but preventable.

Stayed for 2 nights, room service barely even pulled up the sheets, definitely did not make the bed, did not replace coffee, sugar, milk. On the direct landing path for Sydney airport so if the wind is from the east, be prepared not to get any sleep during flight times. Look elsewhere.

But what everyone says is just and fit. This is a nice neighborhood bar. It serves locals rather than tourists. The room is fine. The drinks are fine. The food doesn't matter. You are here to drink. There is plenty of Sports TV to watch, Although that is par for the course in bars in Sydney. They have a good selection of Australian gins ... Which is big for me because I am a whisky and gin guy. My Mary Street Gin was a better version of a Tanqueray. I like strong gins that put up a fight. But many people want a very smooth gin that disappears like water in your mouth with no harshness at all. There is a total place in this world for disappearing gin. Mary Street Gin is as smooth and subtle as disappearing gin ever gets. I still am looking for some raunchier Australian rivals - but I have high respect for the Mary Street Gin people.
