We arrived at Lausanne two days ago. This is the last stop of our Christmas Markets trip. First we…read morevisited Basel, second to Bern then here in Lausanne. I waited until arriving here to have French cuisine. I knew I could find better French food here because it is closer to France and I was right. I found this restaurant among all the French restaurants in town, I liked their menu and their reviews. We liked it so much that we went there twice and we only stayed in Lausanne for two nights. First night we have onion soup, escargot, beef tartare, green salad, dessert - crème brûlée and ice cream. Second night we have the Seafood tower and salad. Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambience: 5 starts I love their menu because they serve more traditional French cuisine instead of those nouveau cuisine (like eating foam)-. I want to mention the maître d' named Adrien. I just mentioned to him at the first night that we maybe come back the next day so he sent me an invite to remind me so we did. I would call that's service and thank you for doing that.

I've been here a couple times now, and I'm ambivalent-to-negative on this place. The food is ok,…read morenot great. I had an artichoke salad that was awful -- could barely chew most of it. The Entrecôte "Café de Paris" was a very poor quality piece of steak, with fat and tendons galore. The EB Burger (with a piece of foie gras on top of a patty) is different and delicious -- although the potato wedges that come with it are dry and should be substituted for regular fries. This place is pricey, and there other options that are better values (even in Lausanne, where prices are high in general) Service at the restaurant is hit or miss. For the most part it's professional, but there are definitely some wait staff who give the vibe of being arrogant. Given all that, the only reason this restaurant gets a second star is the ambiance is nice. It's somewhat of an awkward multi-level layout, but it has a charm to it. Classy and elegant. If only the food and service would match the surroundings, I'd be happy to go back.

This restaurant was perfectly located across the streer from our hotel Royal Savoy…read more The service was nice but i felt the food flavors wasn't very special. The interesting thing that I've never experienced before is that your order is split into half portions. After you finish your first serving they bring you the exact same plate. I'm not sure what to think of this... I mean the 1st serving seemed like enough for most of the table, my friend who go a huge lamb shank declined his second offering, I don't know who can eat all that!! But besides that, I felt accomplished eating my first plate, a second serving of the exact same thing made me feel like the second helping was more of a task than enjoyment lol. Fortunately, i decided to swap my snapper for my friend's veal. I favored the snapper over the veal, ir was light and fresh. I would recommend making sure you have worked up a good appetite if you decide to visit here. Also it gets so loud in there we found ourselves yelling for conversation. Be sure to warm your vocal pipes too!

Cuisine is of great quality fresh and well cooked, served for some dishes in two parts to keep the freshness and warmth. Really appreciated! I can only recommend this place even though it's a bit pricey.

I've known the Café Java since back in 2004. The place hasn't really changed that much. What I like…read moreabout Café Java is its sort of boudoir/bookstore atmosphere. The food and drink menus are inspired by famous French singer Serge Gainsbourg and his several muses Janet Birkin and Brigitte Bardot. The staff is polite and friendly. They have year-round food menu, and a seasonal menu. Since it's winter and it was snowing heavily outside, we (3 of us) went for seasonal ingredients, nuts, pumpkin, and crêpes. My winter salad was very tasty and big enough. My friends each ordered a crêpe, spinach and goat cheese, smoked salmon and cream cheese. Each crêpe was served with a mixed-greens salad. The smoked salmon crêpe was a little too salty, but still tasty. We all ordered dessert. I had a brownie and caramel ice cream. The brownie was a little too big and too dry to my taste. I had tasted better ones at Café Java before. One friend ordered the 'moelleux' which wasn't moelleux (soft, melting) at all. She pointed it out to the waiter who passed it on to the kitchen. They offered a voucher for a dessert, something you won't see much in Switzerland, where most of the time people will say 'well, too bad' and don't do anything about it. My other friend ordered a nutella crêpe, which could have been a little more 'loaded'. I guess she has a sweet tooth. We had an overall very nice experience, the waiter who waited on us was helpful, though quite stressed and busy, and made sure we were having a good time.
