I came here for a routine trim on the recommendation of a friend. There was another customer already, so I had to wait a bit since only Ann was there on a Monday late-afternoon. She spent time to ask me questions about what I would like, seeing clarifications for my descriptions (I forgot to bring a photo with me). She worked quickly through some of the cut, then slowed down and took time to get my bangs and the layers just right. I would definitely come back again for a normal trim, although probably not for a whole style make-over. Decent for a $18 cut. My first and last time to come to this salon, as soon as you walk in there is no one at the reception desk to greet clients coming in. When I called out to see if I could get some assistance, a guy came out and just pointed me to one of the chairs without even asking what I wanted done for today. This same guy who did my hair was also really rough when it came to untangling my hair. Mind you I have super curly hair and whenever I untangle my hair I always use a bit of water but the man just used his bare HANDS to comb my hair. After this hair pulling was done, I asked for a trim of my split ends and he then proceeded to cut a couple inches off. Then I wanted to see if he could style my hair by creating loose waves through a curling iron but the only thing that came out of this was a big frizzy mess on the top of my head. When I asked how much the hair service was I given the price of $50 which for a trim and half style seemed completely wrong because I was clearly not expressing any joy from the hair do which a lady who was also working there told me she'll give me a discount and only lowered it to $45. Alas, I didn't want to get into it with the workers but the results were not satisfying at all. read more

Great service, atmosphere, and expertise! The salons interior is gorgeous, right when you walk in you feel at ease and tranquil. I assumed the salons pricing would be quite expensive, since it is a professional salon but instead they give you a very good deal on the haircuts and dyes :) I came here more than two times and I was very overly satisfied with the outcome. The first time I came to Ann's Salon was to dye my hair ombre and trim it, she made me look gorgeous especially the way she styled my hair afterwards!!! I got compliments from all my friends saying how mature and older I looked. The second time I asked if they could do my hair for prom I was totally blown away by how amazing they could do bridal/formal hairstyles! They made me feel like a princess with the amazing bun they did and everyone loved how intricate the bun was. Great last minute called in first to see if there was availability. That is about as much planning I do when it comes to salon stuff. Went in about 90min after calling and Mai did my hair plus oil treatment. Mai is awesome with hair she knows hair well - that was a pleasant surprise/joy!!! Went there with basic expectation and came out SUPER SURPRISED HOW MUCH I LOVED WHAT MAI had done with my hair. I will be going back for highlights and more oil treatment. The way they do their oil treatment is quite detailed ... it's free when you check in on Yelp....score! A pleasant free add on as most free check in is not worthwhile but this oil treatment sure is. My sister had her haircut here last weekend, and it was not close to anything she asked for. We had asked for one layer and shorter but still able to tie her hair. Seems pretty simple right? but no I guess the stylist don't listen. I had to tell the stylist 2 times that she was layering too much and cutting it too short and she still didn't not listen and tried to justify herself and kept cutting it the way she wanted it. The third time I spoke to the hairstylist, I told her she had to stop cutting and leave it the way it was. The stylist gave her a backwards v cut, shorter on front and a bit longer on back. When we asked for same length front and back... It is unfortunate that my sister was too nice to speak up but we clearly explain what we wanted to her. I semi-cried/ teared for my sister, that was how bad it was. My sister now can't even tie her hair properly to hide the horrible cut, she pins it up and then ties what she can everyday. The hairstylist is lady with very short orange shade hair, her name is Yuet. I would not recommend coming here for a short hair cut as they do not listen or understand what you are asking for. If you do come here, please make an appointment with someone you trust at the salon, drop in not recommended. Paid $30, we could have gotten something better in Oakland Chinatown for $12. They have lost one loyal customer that introduced the location to us and 2 potential long term customer. read more

NEVER AGAIN! I usually don't even bother to write yelp reviews but this place was just horrible! One of the worst salons I've ever been to. I feel like every good review this place has is one of her friends making it up. Right when I entered the store, all the workers just stared. I wanted to try this place out since my friend lives nearby. We've passed by a couple times and the ambiance seemed nice. What a mistake! The workers are not friendly at all and they didn't seem to even bother to keep a conversation going. I specifically explained to one of the ladies how I wanted my haircut and I don't know if it was intentional or on accident but THEY CUT OFF PART OF MY BANGS! IM SO EMBARRASSED! My friend went in with me to get a perm and she came out looking like a cactus! I don't know what they did.. The woman who ended up washing my hair afterwards had nails so sharp it felt like she was digging into my scalp. I ended up going to a different salon the next day and told them to fix the mess. The hairstylist I had was super nice and that is why I gave them 2 stars. I asked for highlights but ended up getting bleached streaks!! I asked for dark color highlights and the color that she showed me was dark but it came out really light...and BLOND! I thought it was okay, but was not happy that she didn't do what I had asked for. Additionally, I asked for an updo and she definitely tried, but again, did not turn out to be what I wanted. When I asked her if she had ever done an updo before and she said No. This is another reason why I am giving this Salon 2 stars...she really did try, she spent a lot of time on my hair considering it was a very last minute request, and she was honest. Honestly, if it wasn't for her effort and patience, I probably would have given them 1 star and that is for taking me at a last minute request.
