What an amazing little shop! This place is well stocked with a huge variety of fossils, gems, minerals, and art. Some of the pieces were unique. The pottery was very cool but I was worried it wouldn't travel well. The shop owner was friendly and engaging. I asked for help finding items that were green because that is one of my favorites. He brought me me back several choices. I bought two of them as well as a few other Christmas presents. The prices are fair for what you get. Highly recommended. This store is a hidden gem near Salt Lake City and directly off of I-80. I've collected (i.e. quarried) and studied fossils and minerals for about ten years, and I was really impressed by their collection. They have everything from 50 cent token pieces to amazing feature pieces that cost thousands of dollars. Antares Fossils & Minerals is effectively a museum as well as a store, and it's less than a two minute walk from the main restaurants and stores off of Exit 5 in Evanston. I'd highly suggest dropping by and perusing. If you can't afford a feature piece or don't trust yourself to keep an expensive specimen safe as you travel, you can walk out with a beautiful fossilized fish from the famous and local Kemmerer collecting sites for $5. In my opinion, you should spend at least $5 (or substantially more, depending on your means) when visiting a store like this as you would a museum. In doing so, you help it stay in business and signal your appreciation to the owners. The stock is impressively varied, with a wide selection of both fossils and minerals, and both local and imported material. Stopped by and boy I had a blast! Excellent choices and outside you can buy rough rocks (wheee!). The owner is super sweet and you can buy some from d the fossils he dug up. Ended up with a box of rough rock and some beautiful pieces - a fossil, ammonite, scolecite and a real pretty slab of banded fluorite. Went crazy but super reasonable. Love love love read more

We lived in Evanston 10 years ago, and we visited Antares Fossils often. It is truly a magical store with fossils, carved agate art, precious and semiprecious jewelry, beads and unique minerals of all kinds. Just being there is a feast for the eyes and the soul! Now there is even a fluorescent room where you can see how minerals react to fluorescent light! We have returned again and again for gifts for one another, including a beautiful celestite egg, a lovely tiger eye cabochon, a chryscocolla necklace and, most recently a lovely fossil cabochon that looks like wentletrap shells (Jim told me the exact shell name when I bought it but I was too giddy to remember!) I love this place and just to give you an idea of how special it is to us, we took a detour coming home to Idaho from eastern Utah and this is the ONLY place we stopped to visit. OK, so ya gotta pardon the pun, but this place "rocks!" Being from Northern Arizona, we've seen our share of rock and gem shops, but we really enjoyed this place. They stock the "usual" stuff, like amethyst geodes, peacock copper, crystal spheres, etc., but they have some truly exceptional items too. The shop's owners travel all over the world to obtain their wares, but the really interesting stuff literally comes from our own back yard: just outside of Fossil Butte National Monument on privately owned ranch land, there is a treasure trove of lake-bed fossils that these guys have exclusive mining rights to, and they bring back tons of these fossils to not only sell in the shop, but use as teaching tools for geologists from all over the world. While we were there, we were invited into the "back room" where Robby, one of the owners, was "prepping" the latest shipment of fossils (fish, ferns, crustaceans, etc.), where they scrape the top layer off with a small air tool (similar to what dentists use to scrape tartar off your teeth) to expose the fossil underneath. He let my stepson actually prep one himself, AND let him keep the sample - which he absolutely loved. While he was doing this, a Dutch gentleman came into the room, from what I gathered, he's a staffer at a prestigious geological museum in the Netherlands who makes regular trips over here to obtain fossils and other rocks and gems. Apparently this little small-town shop is quite well-known in their "community;" geologists from all over the world come to this little shop to obtain samples, perfect their techniques, etc. Tony, one of the other owners, is super-nice too. We left the shop with a "grab bag" for my stepson, which ended up containing shark teeth, small dinosaur bones and a soapstone figurine. Out in front of the shop are a couple of metal dinosaur sculptures. When we left, we heard one of them speak - "hey kid, come here and scratch my nose" he said. Turns out they have a microphone hidden in the "belly of the beast" and the shopkeepers have tons of fun messing with the kids. Long story short, if you're ever passing through Evanston Wyoming, this shop is definitely worth a stop! read more

You will know this place by the giant plaster dinosaurs out front. The store is small, but well packed with a huge assortment of rocks, gems, and fossils. The owner was really friendly and helpful. Even with an assortment of other customers in the store he made sure everyone's questions were answered and took the time to give little tidbits of information on a stone anyone was looking at. His prices were really reasonable compared to other rock shops we have shopped at. We will make sure to stop in again any time we are in the area. read more

This was the highlight of our venture into Wyoming! we had a disappointing run for the fish digs in Kemmer - I had heard about them on the forums and they were right. They are fantastic!
