Honestly, this place wasn't that impressive. The menu is on the counter so if you've never been before, good luck. There were 3 baristas working and although they seemed to know what they were doing, it still seemed like they were a little confused. They don't ask for your name so if you walk away, they just say the drink order - no outside voices so you may not hear it. Pretty good seating options with outside and inside tables. Seemed like they had a group of regulars sitting at a table behind the counter - one of the guys has a VERY loud laugh and he seemed to be having a grand time based on the amount of times he shared it with the whole shop. The crumble had a good flavor but it was pretty dry. Chai latte was okay but was pretty mid temp by the time I got it. walking in here reminds me of the feeling when i use to be the only queer/non-masc person in an all-male IT department -my friends here have no social awareness/friendliness. it usually is never friendly and it doesn't matter who i'm dealing with, but for the most part, i'm always been helped by the two dudes with locs. what really threw me off is when I came in once and the lighter-dude with locs immediately began to make mention of the scars on my face and thought they were cool... these scars are a reminder of one of the most traumatic, horrific events in my life and while they may look cool and the comment was intended to be harmless, the memory they provide is so not cool...what is it the kids say these days, the vibezz are so not vibingg? but seriously, i always feel immensely awkward leaving this place, super unwelcoming and lacking any warmth. if Wi-Fi isn't the vibezz, is social interaction also not the vibezz? like, what are the vibezz, let me know... the coffee itself tho? tens, tens, tens on the hardwood floor. the menu is a little convoluted and takes a couple times to get what selections are brewed under what methods, but some of the best coffee in detroit, i'll absolutely give them that. you can tell the team is absolutely passionate about coffee and is very diligent about their sourcing. hopefully the next time i decide to pop in they've found a balance . read more

Decent coffee stop near Eastern Market. Inside has plenty of seating and is a nice place to rest. Coffee menu is very limited...definitely more of a purist type drink establishment so if you are looking for a fun, fancy drink this is not the place for it. The only sweetener they had was simple syrup - not even honey. My friend ordered an iced coffee with milk and simple syrup and said it was okay. Service wasn't bad and they were able to make me a pour over iced decaf which was great - a lot of places don't do that. All in all a decent stopover. read more

Great location right by the huge farmers market, which surprisingly doesn't have many good coffee options itself. We were in Detroit for a wedding weekend and stopped here for coffee before checking out the market. There was a short line, but drinks came out quickly after ordering. As a small roaster, they rotate the beans on the menu, and we enjoyed trying a few different things: a sweet and clean Colombia Yellow Papayo espresso shot, a house flat white, and a seasonal apple cider cold brew. I didn't love the flat white -- it had some burnt and bitter notes -- but the refreshing cider cold brew made up for it. Anthology was a relaxing experience. I have to say I really liked the aesthetic of the establishment. Initially what I drove past because of the lack of outdoor signage, I was nervous to enter the building. However, when you do walk up it directs you where to go. I really like that they had stairs, but also a ramp for folks as well. I ordered the chai tea latte iced with oat milk. The staff was very nice and friendly. Overall, the aesthetic was pleasing and the location off also offered other shops throughout the building. I also enjoyed ample parking across from the establishment. read more

It's a great place in Eastern market to get a coffee. Plenty of seats to sit and chat with your friends while you enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. I am amazed at the service every time I go in I might be in a funk, but when I come out, I'm in a good mood and it's not just the coffee. The baristas are Amazing and I enjoy being around them. Some of them know my order already because I go so frequently and I just love it there. I feel like I'm at home. Whatever the barista are doing, keep doing it because I'm enjoying the service. I'm a big on Customer service and you know the coffee will bring me there whether the service is good or bad but the service is so good. It makes me want to make an extra long trip over there Cause I usually come after work, but if I'm at home, I'd like to go to the eastern market too, so I don't mind spending the gas to go that extra mile just to be and there are a lot of cool shops around. There's a running store that sells running shoes. There's a little jewelry store. Rebel now my daughter used to work there but now she doesn't, but it's still a cool place And I have yet to discover other places so look forward to continuing to support anthology and yeah, it's a cool place to have your drinks and work. It's usually quiet. It's not very noisy even if it isn't there is a little buzz about the place and the big windows are opened in the summer so you really get that feel of being outside, but you're inside I love it. Such a gorgeous coffee shop in the Eastern Market district that is just aesthetic bright, airy space and plant dreams! I'm kicking myself for not having taken photos because it's truly just white, black, and green gloriousness all over! Lots of open space and natural light throughout the space for you to spend a few hours working at one of their tables, just beware of all the bees flitting about that will not leave you alone! I'm not a coffee drinker, so can't attest to their coffee, but I appreciate Anthology for their small and straightforward menu and letting their drinks stand on their own two feet. They've got a gravel parking lot across from it though! The coffee shop was cool. Very open! Wide and large. Early on a Sunday there was one barista. Anthology is a stunning coffee shop in Eastern Market. Covered in plants, it truly has a calming vibe with seating to sit down and catch up with some friends. I've only been in the summer and the most delightful refreshing coffee drink I've had comes from anthology - it was a coffee spritz, espresso, sparking water, and citrus to bring the summer to a coffee drink. So good I got one to go! Great spot hidden in Eastern Market before the bridge. I was a little confused at first on the entrance and there is no sign that it's Anthology other than a sign with an arrow that says coffee pointing the wrong way, . I let the barista know it was my first visit so he was very eager to share his knowledge about the different roasts and espresso selection. I learned a few things on this trip. I got a latte and bought the Castillo beans origin: Colombia, for my coffee maker. He let me sample the coffee and wow just wow so flavorful and the aroma is delightful. I learned that they name their roasts from a single origin flower that is batched separately from others. I'm not sure if I got that right but pretty close lol I need to be schooled a bit more on the coffee industry, but I'm def practicing. Anthology makes some of the best coffee I've ever had, and that's saying something! The roast is perfection; the owners really know what they're doing. Yes, it's expensive, but it is an excellent value for what you get. I can buy a bs PSL from Starbucks for $6-8 or get a perfectly balanced mocha at Anthology for about $5-6! It all depends on where your value lies. For me, it's quality over quantity every time. I personally haven't experienced anything but chill vibes from the staff. The owner's wife makes the baked goods and they're always a treat - I love the quiche! My parents also love this place - they started out their coffee drinking lives in 1970s Berkeley, CA at the original Peet's Coffee. This roaster is consistent with those old school micro-roastery vibes: highest quality, attention to detail, nothing extraneous. I also love that they sell locally made non-alcoholic bitters sodas! They're perfect for former drinkers! Oh and I just started working near Eastern Market and I'm thrilled that I get to grab coffee from Anthology more regularly! I was going to Mad Cap downtown, which is excellent, and I can't wait to become more of a regular at Anthology. read more

ALL of their house made pastries are gluten free! I was so thrilled that I sat down and ordered tea and pastry. I didn't like the herbal tea; it had an odd smell. The service was great, the guy at the counter is definitely passionate about coffee. The ambiance is decent but if you're coming to sit and talk or work for a while, I would not recommend. There is this awful EXTREMELY loud siren like sound that goes off the entire time you're there. It is quite disruptive. Also, make sure your devices are fully charged as the outlets are very limited. If you want to support a business that seemingly has good values then this is a good spot to just grab what you need and go and feel good about your purchase. This place has potential for sure, there is a lot of seating and I loved the natural light and plants. Unfortunately, most of the plants are dead or dying. I've been using their in house roasted coffee beans for about a year now and they're some of the best I've ever had. I've never gotten a stand offish vibe from the staff like some reviews state. They don't have all the frilly drinks you get at Starbucks, just simple coffee, tea, and espresso with optional sweetener and multiple choices for milk. If you're looking for something a little different give their coffee tonic or coffee soda a try. I see people working/reading in the lobby frequently here. The outdoor seating is great. Really interesting place. We came here on a Sunday to get some work done. Upon entering the place is very impressive- large open lofty area with lots of beautiful foliage. I couldn't find the menu until I stood at the cashier bar, where the order was on a small card of paper attached to the table. The cashier stared at me while I tried to decipher how to ordered a regular coffee. After ordering I asked what the wifi password was and he said "we don't have wifi. That's just not our vibe here." The conversation was very offstandish and the staff was pretty rude. I felt like I was being watched. TLDR this place is very performative progressive and Instagram photo worthy, a cool stop if you're around Eastern market but don't plan to get any work done here without being judged. read more

if the physical space wasn't as nice as it is I would have given this place one star. The person serving me was rather blunt and not polite at all. They gave me a whole spiel about the coffee soda and how it is coffee re imagined. The barista? Explained the process of the coffee soda and when I asked about the tonic afterwards and which one was more popular/better he replied saying well we spent all this time talking about the soda so you should try the soda. The soda itself was so disappointing. Imagine plain sparkling water and a few drops of cold brew in it and you'd have that $5 drink. The coffee is amazing but their customer service is quite terrible. I walked in to the whole shop being on laptops, but when I asked for the wifi they said, "wifi really isn't our vibe." If someone can explain the vibe of WiFi, I will give you $20 because I think the vibe of no WiFi is creating a pretentious environment where all their customers just login as guests at neighboring businesses. Also, if this is supposed to be such an intentional and caring space, why is every plant in here dying? This place could be really cool, but I think the men with Peter Pan syndrome need to take 10 steps back and reflect on how they are gonna tank something good before it even takes off. It's completely okay to run a coffee shop without WiFi in the name of better human connection, but you can't be standoffish when people inquire. The coffee is very good, and it's no surprise that many cafe's in the area choose to sell their coffee. If you order tea they give you a whole tea ceremony kit to brew your tea, which I thought was really cool. The one thing that turned me off from here is that I once had a drip coffee ($5 btw) with flies and maggots in it, and I was shocked to realize this only after having finished 3/4 of the cup. Yep, it's the well known Anthology in Corktown - they are relocating to Eastern Market and just opened on Friday, May 17. They are now in an expansive, airy and bright large space with tons of natural light just a stone's throw from all things good in Eastern Market. You can choose from pour over, espresso and a "tonic" drink which is a coffee-tonic water-citrus drink that I ordered. It was not too fizzy with the tonic water and was very refreshing - would be a perfect drink on a hot day. They also have a small selection of pastries - I opted for a cake which was moist and delicious with a surprisingly addictive frosting garnished with pistachios. Not usually being a frosting person, I was pleasantly surprised! The design of the place is beautiful - there's lots of art on the walls but of course at the time of my writing, still the sequelae associated with moving into a new space and polishing everything off. But they are indeed open and ready to serve great coffee! read more

I'm giving this place a 1 star because I did not enjoy my time here at all :( we were recommended this place, and we came in on a really cold day hoping to get some warm coffee. The first thing that I noticed was that there was no accessible menu. They only have a paper menu taped to the front when you order, and I found myself holding up the line because I reading the menu. I ordered one of the pour overs and my partner and brother got a chai latte. However, both of their lattes were cold, room temperature at best. My coffee was good but it seemed overhyped. The coffee here is also really expensive for small amounts (they only have one size). I read all of the other one star reviews, and additional to my comments, they're all spot on. The space is very large but the use of it is extremely inadequate, the vibe is snobby, and doesn't feel welcoming. All of their coffees are expensive because their roast is unique, but they're doing too much. I would appreciate if they had options for non-coffee drinkers, and just a plain (affordable) house brew coffee. read more

I met a coworker here last week to work out of office together and we couldn't even hotspot for an hour because I had bad cell service too. I completely respect businesses who don't want people to stay all day. I always try to buy coffee and a bit of food to help offset the cost of me taking up a table for a couple hours.
