Anthony has been my tailor for almost a decade, and his work is always perfect and exceptional, and he is a very nice person to work with. Yes, his prices are high but this is how he makes a living, a small, modest shop in an economy hell bent on destroying small businesses like Anthony. He is ALWAYS willing to negotiate a price too, so make sure you get a quote and bring it down a little depending on the quote, he is flexible. For all the people complaining about his prices, what do you think he is doing with the money??? Buying Ferraris and trips around the world??? He is trying to barely survive. I was really uncomfortable here. I went with a friend who needed to alter a suit for interviews. I felt that he was bumping the price up for no rhyme or reason. He pinned up the pant legs what were clearly different lengths. I felt he was fighting us. And he insisted on being paid in cash. All that tells me is he doesn't pay his taxes. I just had a really oily feeling. I will never go back. It's weird, whenever you walk past this shop, I never see customers inside. I think that tells us something. read more

You get what you pay for. At Anthony's, you pay top dollar, but you get expert craftsmanship in return. I bring my tailored clothing here when I need to be sure that the job will be done right. I've never been disappointed, but my wallet often hurts afterwards. Anthony himself is the real deal, an old-school, traditionally-trained tailor who has practiced his craft for decades. He remembers his customers, and always walks through exactly what he's going to do to make sure you and your clothes look their best. Again, this is top-quality work, but it doesn't come cheap. Took my $30 pair of Dickies to him to have them hemmed. He wouldn't pin them for me to see where I wanted them taken in and kept telling me "I know what to do." When I asked how much it would cost, he quotes me $120!!! Soooo I went down the street and had it done for $20 instead and they look great. Like others have said, Anthony is a nice elderly man and I hate to disparage my elders but he is overpriced. He charged me 525$ to tailor a suit, other excellent, and elderly European tailors, have charged 200-300$ for the same work. When I got the suit back a week before my wedding, the jacket was well done but the pant hems were pretty dramatically uneven. I am having to take my suit to another tailor to fix. Again, he's a nice person, but he's overcharging and is not living up to those prices. read more

He is expensive. That said, he is one of the last of a dying breed. A true tailor in the classic sense as in, he learned his craft by apprenticing for years under a master tailor. He is definitely worth every penny for important items. I had him tailor the suit I was married in. Amazing work. Later I took things to be altered and made the mistake of not asking prior how much it would be. I've had him alter several suits and his work is impeccable. For simple alterations, take it somewhere else or, at least negotiate price up front (he has been flexible when I asked first). For nice suits and clothes however, I doubt a better tailor can be found in this area. read more

I feel bad giving a sweet old man 2 stars, but that was my experience. First, I asked him to fix my Indian sari. He said he couldn't. Fine, fair enough. Second, I brought in a jean skirt to be shortened and he asked for $80. Insane! The last item I had was some simple hand stitching. He told me to take it to the cleaner's or elsewhere. Anthony's work is of fantastic quality. I've had him alter three suits (two for me, one for my fiance) as well as a variety of slacks, blouses, and dresses. You would never be able to tell the clothing has been altered except that it now looks like custom-made clothes. He completely rebuilt a $200 sale rack suit in to something that I could have paid $1k for at Nordstrom. He also worked magic on an intricately folded women's silk blouse that I didn't expect a tailor to do well with. As other reviews mention, his prices are not cheap and depend on what you ask him to do. Moderate alterations to a two-piece suit seem to run about $200, and a major suit rebuild is more like $300, so this isn't service for your H&M clothing. However, if you have investment clothing that you want altered, Anthony is your man. read more

I went in to see about tailoring two brand new suits. After reading the reviews here, I was warned that Anthony is expensive. Once entering his little shop, before measuring or anything, I asked broadly how much it would be to hem the pants, bring out the waist an inch, and hem the coat sleeves. He said basically said "well, let's see" and directed me to try on the clothes. After trying on both suits and Anthony pinning and chalking the clothes, only then he provided his cost. When people here say Anthony is expensive, they were not joking. The quoted cost was ~$225 PER SUIT, and that was Anthony giving a "discount" based on my shocked look on my face when he quoted an original price of $230 PER SUIT. Judging from how he was describing his work, I felt comfortable in knowing his business. He has certainly been doing this for many years seeing where his shop is located and how it looks. However, I could not justify the price and decided not to have him do any of the work. My rating is because Anthony could have given a ball park of his pricing before he wasted both of our time. He came across very defensive and a bit angry after I expressed concern over the pricing, a sales tactic that I did not fall for (I'd like to think I'm a nice and reasonable person and willing to pay a bit more for local businesses and quality). His shop is little, the one "dressing room" could have been cleaner and more comfortable given clients need to change clothes. He had clothes and materials all over the back tables and I felt concerned that my new suits would just be laying on tables rather than treated nicely by being hung. Anthony has a great story, an immigrant from Lebanon and survived the civil war over there that went on for years. He's a self made man and has run a successful business in the sleepy street of Mission in South Pasadena. I would have loved to support his business but the price was very expensive, about 1/3 the price of each of my suits, which didn't make sense for me to do. If price isn't an issue for you, Anthony's the Tailor may be a good option for you. However, if you're looking for a reasonable priced tailor, this isn't one for you. read more

So I fly into town and realize that I lost weight and have three days to get my suit tailored before a wedding. Who do I trust with my bespoke suits? MR. ANTHONY that's who!!! Now don't come to Anthony to fix your clothes and think it's going to be cheap. Mr. Anthony is a master of his craft and clothes are his canvass and there is no one better than him in the area. Every time he fixes one of my suits I take them back to my tailor in NOLA and they are given a lesson on how to tailor a suit. This time a round it required Mr. Anthony to recut my pants and coat and what took my tailor five weeks to make, only took him two days to fix. $600 later I was walking in a suit that felt like a second skin and made me feel like a million bucks. One day I am going to convince the old man to make me a suit but it's probably going to take 10G's and a recession to give him the time to do it. Hands down Mr. Anthony is the the guy to go to when you want it done right. If you feel like this is unreasonable or absurd to pay for alterations. Then go to Men's Warehouse and buy one off the rack, no one will judge you for it... read more

Am I the only one who had to pay cash only? That was what he demanded of me, then, in spite of having two stacks of of papers for invoice, wouldn't put it in writing. I left my dress to be hemmed, he gave me a day to pick it up, and took my phone number, which was a land line. He didn't call to let me know it was done, so I had to go by to inquire. I didn't have cash on me, but since I was running errands, and had to go down to OC, so I was short on time, but I had credit cards, and my checkbook. He wouldn't even look and see that I had a high number on my checks, which means I've had it for many years. If he's cash only, I'd have to wonder why no one has looked into this practice. read more

Was in shock when I went to pick up my pleasures skirt and the charge was $160!!!!!! I took my wedding dress to a tailor for some serious alterations and it was less then a simple skirt. Robbery. Lesson learned ask how much it will be before you leave anything. read more

Mixed opinion. For high end jobs, he is absolutely the best around. Worth the $$$. The downside is that he will only do things "right," no little tucks here or there. This man refused to alter my two identical dresses. What?! I'm still bewildered. I don't know if he just couldn't do it, or he is a Divo. (These dresses were for a job and 13 other lady colleagues were getting these same dresses altered across the US.) I scooped up my stuff and walked out. As I walked back to my car still in the dress he refused to alter with the clothes I had come in with in my arms, I asked a neighboring shop keeper if they knew of a good tailor nearby that was not this guy. Sure enough they had a great recommendation down the street on Mission in San Marino, near Mission and Garfield. Nancy at the Cleaners at Mission and Euclid. I didn't see her on Yelp. She had no problem altering my dresses. I recommend her. She is very thorough and comes up with great solutions on the spot! Like a bra strap ancor on a boat neck design! How awesome that the dress was taken in from the arm to the knees on both side seems, the built in bra had to be taken in, and she put in the ancors for only $50 per dress?!?! Let's get this out of the way, he's not cheap. However, his work is well worth the price. I took in a designer tuxedo jacket to alter. I had Anthony shorten the sleeves and taken in at the waist. The seams at the back of the jacket was quite intricate, and Anthony did a great job. I highly recommend him if you have pricey clothes that need to be altered. If you just need your trousers shorten, just take them to your cleaner. read more

I felt compelled to share because I want to make sure no one else gets ripped off from this guy. I can handle when establishments charge higher prices because of workmanship or location or higher overhead costs...but I cannot handle when an owner charges higher to take advantage of a person. I took in a pair of pants to get hemmed 2 days before I had to leave for a wedding. Unfortunately, I had just moved into the area and was totally unfamiliar with the area. This guy knew I was in a jam and charged me $45. Later I found out that most respected place charge anywhere from $15-$20. I guess at the end of the day I am the dummy for paying, but had I known what he was pulling at least I could of fought and not get ripped off. To be fair he did an okay job, but it wasn't a $45 dollar job...it was a $15 job. read more

This guy is unbelievably overpriced. I went to have some stuff taken in, and the prices he quoted me were insane. For 3 pieces, he wanted $275. He then offered me the bargain rate of $250. When I gasped at the price, he said something to the effect of, "I don't know how much you were expecting, but this is a lot of work." He proceeded to show me that my pants would cost $60 because they had a double layer at the waistband. Um . . . don't pretty much all pants have that? They weren't even lined pants for chrissakes. And I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with what tailoring costs . . . I had those exact same pants taken in once already by an excellent tailor (on the East Coast) for exactly $20. He also wanted $120 to take in the skirt. He explained how it was lined and had a hidden zipper that he would have to take off and then sew back on. My East Coast guy did a similar skirt for me for $20. How? He didn't take in the side seams (where the zipper is) he took in the 2 seams in the back. Maybe I should have suggested that to him , but it seems odd that I would be telling a tailor how to do his job. Who knows, maybe there was some reason he couldn't do that on this particular skirt, but $120 is just way too much to pay for even the work he was suggesting. Now of course I didn't actually have this work done, so I can't rate his actual work. But for his prices, he better be flipping amazing! read more

Yes, Anthony the tailor is expense, this is true. However - by my estimation, absolutely worth it. He took a 1940's boxy cut wool plaid dinner jacket, something I had only used for Halloween dress up (since I was 15) and transformed it into a sports coat I can wear to my billion dollar client's HQ. I have always loved this jacket but it was just too out dated in the style of the cut to use for any serious purpose. So he is an expert for certain. He also hemmed and adjusted 2 pairs of dress pants. I use all of these now for work. What I paid for this tailoring work was worth every penny, particularly in regards to the sports coat --- it is absolutely irreplaceable and unlike anything that is being made, currently, for semi-formal functions. read more

I live locally in south Pasadena and wanted to get a pair of jeans hemmed and rather than go to a cleaners I decided to see what he would charge, I called and he told he he would have to see the jeans and to bring them in then he could give me a price. I thought that weird at first considering I just wanted my jeans shortened, when I bring them in he tells me$40 a pair to Hem jeans I found that rediculous and told him I've paid as low as $8 dollars at a cleaners. he proceeded to tell me he has a cleaners too and they charge $15 to Hem and that was the lowest around, I told him I would have them done elsewhere , I then asked about having a pair of jeans tapered and he told me I would have to bring those jeans in as well but he would not give me a price he told me if $40 was too expensive for hemming that, he wouldn't even quote me a price and proceeded to open the front door and usher me out, not a pleasant experience with Anthony although I'm sure his work is superb I'm not sure if it warrants the absurd prices read more

If you read the reviews, they are all on the mark. Tony is expensive. But the work is impeccable. I grew up having my clothes tailored. Over the years, it has been more and more difficult to find a tailor that you can trust to do a great job, and to take care in their work. Most of the time, it's simply about getting the job done quickly, but not perfectly. Tony is a perfectionist. If you have a piece that has value to you - financially or emotionally, don't spend less to have it tailored poorly - take it to Tony. read more

So, here is the thing about Anthony. It is my opinion that he is in business to make money, he is not there to be your friend, or to explain to you what cut of suit he thinks might look best on you. I know the latter part to be true (at least in my case), because I don't feel super competent to judge the quality and fit of a suit, and so I have a habit of trying to discuss these matters with my tailor. In my opinion, I have never been able to really do this with Anthony (although it is highly possible that I am just not very likeable and Anthony does his best to get me out of his shop as quickly as possible, and so your mileage on this front might vary). Further, I do not feel qualified to judge the technical quality of his work, as I could not sew a button onto a sock puppet; while it seems fine, I generally have him do things which are probably not very challenging, (to wit: adjust hems on pants, and lengthen sleeves on jackets) and which could probably be done by even apprentice level tailors. That being said, my grandmother, who is a fashion designer who founded a large clothing company, and who later in life was a fashion design professor believes that he is quite skilled, and so provides craftsmanship light years beyond what you could expect from a tailor at your neighborhood cleaners or the like. In my book, this is all the endorsement of his services that I could ever hope for (and is why I use him). How much do these services cost you might wonder? Do not expect to find a price list in his store, as he doesn't use them (that I have ever seen). If my experience is any guide, he will take a look at what you need done, and then quote you a price. That price, (again, if your experience is similar to mine) will initially be very high. The problem is that in this modern world of ours, very few of us have a great sense of what the various tailoring services should probably cost, and so when you get the quote, you may not have any idea of how reasonable the deal being offered is and so be prone to simply accept it. My suggestion is that you figure out what you need done first, and then call around to two or three tailors and, being as specific as possible, get some quotes from them for similar services. Then when you get a quote from Anthony, you will at least know what the ball park price you should expect to pay is (although based on my experience, you should at least be prepared for Anthony's quote to be more or significantly more than the prices you were quoted). Also, be warned that in my opinion, Anthony is a skilled bargainer, and may push back at your lower price suggestions. Is it the premium price worth it? I have no idea, but so far I've been happy with everything he has done, and my grandmother gives him the seal of approval (although I suspect she might get a better rate due to her understanding of the services being provided). In a perfect world, he would talk a bit more with me about how certain suit cuts look on my weird frame, and his services would be cheaper. Hence the three stars. read more

I took Anthony 6 pairs of the best tactical pants made (by Kitanica) to have the metal fasteners in the fly replaced with zippers. Prior reviewers have noted that he is expensive, but for these pants I wanted the best, so results, not price, were my primary concerns. I certainly got what I wanted. The holes made by taking out the metal parts were covered over with great craftsmanship and the pants were beautifully updated with excellent zippers. The pants are now much more user-friendly (you guys know what I mean!). Yes, it was not cheap but absolutely worth it. If you just have a minor alteration of an everyday piece of clothing, take it to your dry cleaner, but for your best clothes, use Anthony. read more

There are very few people who can tailor fine garments today. I have a very fine, very expensive cashmere overcoat that I received as a gift. I never wore it because the sleeves were too long. It was a treasure sitting in my closet waiting to be appreciated. I have an expensive leather jacket that I wear often but again, sleeves were a bit long and I always wanted it fixed. Anthony rebuilt the cashmere coat: it has a lining and buttons that needed to be re-attached - it needed a skilled tailor. The leather jacket has cuffs that needed to be removed and re-attached. Leather is hard to work with. Anthony altered these coats as though they had been made to fit and never altered in any way. This kind of work is not cheap, but it's relative. Why would I turn over nearly $2000 in garments to someone who might ruin them or, at best, make them look cheap? If you want a pair of jeans taken up, take them to your cleaners. If you have a suit, a gown, or any other valuable garments, you can trust Anthony with them. He turned them around quickly for me as well.
