My husband and I had a lovely dinner last night. We had calamari for an appetizer and it was very good and a good size portion. My husband had the 45 day aged steak and he said it was one of the best steaks he's ever had. My boyfriend and I decided to go because of the beautiful view. We ordered the early dinner menu which was a four course meal for $26 (guess we got what you paid for). I'll first start off with our cocktails... we both got a whiskey sour and it would be something comparable that you would order from a dive bar not a full service restaurant with coat check. We ordered one of each appetizers. A bruschetta and a shrimp cocktail. A cold piece of steak on a stale piece of bread with bruised basil on it doesn't qualify as bruschetta. Tiny Bay shrimp (used in shrimp fried rice) on some iceberg salad mix with a spoonful of cocktail sauce from a jar doesn't exactly stand on its own. Starting with the caesar salad, it was horrible but wasn't the best. Followed by the grand finale of entrees from a 1988 country club. Cold broccoli on both plates, an over seasoned steak covered in a cranberry sugar concoction. The shrimp were Overcooked in a glass bowl filled with butter that clearly sat in a salamander heating unit. Obviously pans of food just being scooped onto plates with no intent to actually let the guest enjoy. The desserts weren't to bad... The only great thing was the service! Well done Sage! If you're looking for a view, pick up a burrito and enjoy the view from the large boulder out by the parking lot. read more

Insult on top of injury: prices are over-the-top. All five of us had appetizers and an entree. So, we were able to give all the appetizers a try. Save your money. There doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. The wall of windows with waterfront and mountain view was a great start to this experience. If you get there before 6pm, there is a 4-course prix fixe menu with some nice choices. I wanted to sample the seafood so went with the shrimp cocktail, caesar salad, cod dish and creme brulee. The shrimp cocktail were little bay shrimps on a small bed of lettuce. It was a bit mushy instead of plump, either old or overcooked. The caesar salad was average. I local cod was slightly breaded and came with rice and broccoli. It was a bit bland for my taste. The favorite part of my meal was dessert. Service was friendly and prompt. Overall, it was a nice experience. I might come back to try some other menu items. The view was a winner to me. read more

I want to write this review for our waiter. A large group of friends had a meetup at the Hearthfire. Jonathan F was our waiter. I think he was the best waiter that I have ever had at a restaurant. I'm vegan (which Hearthfire doesn't have many items for me). Jonathan took the time to figure something for me to eat, coming back to verify a few changes, he filled our water continually, came back several times to see how we were and, at the end, handed us our credit cards so we would not forget them. This little gem is hidden at the tip of Swantown Marina at the far edge of downtown Olympia. It seems oddly placed but it actually puts you at the most beautiful unobstructed view point of the Puget Sound. The large windows and open floor layout offers a gorgeous panoramic view from any seat in the house. Once I was done marveling at the incredible scenery I was ready to down get to the real business of food. I wanted to give the food a 5 star rating but I gave it 4 stars. Although the food was very well executed and yummy, I felt that the menu was pretty standard fare. I ordered the Dungeness Crab Toast. It came with a light and refreshing side of slaw and a pickle. Pretty tasty. One friend ordered the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup that was beautifully plated! The swirled presentation of the soup was very creative! My other friend ordered the Hearthfire Lunch Trio, which included Chowder, Salad and Flatbread. We all enjoyed our meals. The servers were super friendly and were very attentive. The entire restaurant was immaculately clean. The food was pretty good....but it's the spectacular view and great ambience I'll definitely be back for!! Was way overpriced! Now don't get me wrong. The atmosphere was very nice and a gorgeous view, but the food took way too long getting to the table (45 minutes or longer) and the bill was outrageous for 6 people. My son ordered the steak, which was very tough and zero flavor and cost $65 bucks! I ended up giving him half my ribs for half the price I paid and where much better. Our bill after the tip was almost $400 bucks! We are done with the high end restaurants. Not worth it! read more

My friends and I wanted Happy Hour drinks after work on Friday and with the weather being perfect we thought it would be a good idea to sit outside. That idea was good but maybe the rest wasn't. We sat outside and we were the only table without an umbrella so we were burning. But that was quickly fixed when we finally saw our server to ask. We split multiple apps, the artichoke dip, the bbq pizza, the salmon sliders and the calarmi. Everything came out nice and hot. However, I had asked for bread to munch on while we waited and the server brought it with out meal after I reminded him. My hangry brain was a little upset. They have a long happy hour and my friends and I were debating if we wanted another drink or to cash out. We checked the time to see if we could make happy hour (we had like 3 hours before it was over, not sure why were worried) and then finished our original drinks and waited for our server. Who we didnt see for another 20 minutes. We decided to cash out since we had been waiting, without any new water, drinks or food for over 30 minutes before our server noticed. It then took over 10 minutes to get our checks and another 10 to cash out. I know that doesn't sound like a reason to knock two stars off but it was hot outside, he didn't bring new water and I had put my card on the table and he didn't notice. Just felt like another time that me as a millennial doesn't get the same quality of service as the older crowd surrounding me, which was maybe true in this case. read more

My wife & I as well as occasionally our teenage sons have eaten at many Anthony's locations from California to Washington & always enjoyed the views as well as great service & food, this was our first & sadly our last time eating at this location! The views were great as to be expected from Anthony's, BUT everything else was terrible, we dress casual (not homeless looking), we are a young appearing couple (30's-40's), from the start of our service our waitress (won't use her name here) gave us so much judgement (face of a fake smile & distain with a bit of eye roll), she even pointed at the pricing next to the wine! I'm a great tipper always (25% minimum & much higher, I take pride in this), to be judged like we're trash was to say the least a setback on this new relationship! So anyways, we ordered our food, appetizers & drinks simultaneously, it took a solid 25 minutes to get our drinks, then another 15-20 minutes later our appetizer arrived, then almost an hour later our food arrived (lobster risotto & broccolini), we only saw her every every 25-30 minutes, & when she came she didn't ask if we were happy with anything except for her final pop in when our mouths were full of risotto... & then vanished again until we had to waive her down for the check! Onto the food, the crab/shrimp dip app was decent, the garlic flatbread with it was yummy, the lobster risotto was awful, the lobster was only small pieces from the tip of the claws, no solid chunks of lobsters all (I make lobster & king crab frequently at home), beyond this lack the whole of the plate was very salty and lacking in texture & taste, the lobster bits were unseasoned, overcooked and had very little flavor, very unlike Anthony's in my opinion, & very disappointing! The drinks... my old fashioned was good, my wife's pear martini was literally a half of a martini glass (half full), it tasted only of mix & no alcohol (yes I'm familiar with martini's as I also make cocktails), we had to order an extra shot to add which actually filled the glass to proportion... hmmm did they forget the gray goose?? All this and the waitress still didn't seem to care that we visibly went from happy to disappointed!! Not a good experience, not great food, so enjoy paying a lot for the view, or check out another spot!! Needless to say with a sad heart she didn't get a 25% tip which actually breaks my heart because I really enjoy giving a shock of surprise to anyone who gives decent service, great service always gets a 35% plus tip from me even if that means I'm spending upwards of $3-500 for a family night out, don't judge people because they aren't dressed to your standards, if your in the service industry then be of service, please!! I'm a nurse and I take care of my patients with kindness & a smile no matter my mood, that said I don't make a lot so it's not cool when you ruin a night out with my family, for shame!! Of note.. I asked for a side of roasted veggies to which she replied that my meal comes with Broccolini, she added a charge to the receipt for both broccolini's (shady), at this point we just wanted to go vs dispute! We were seated at our reservation time and ordered our drinks , we ordered a waterfront citrus and a Basil Pom , both were delicious! Ordered the shrimp and artichoke dip starter and it was also amazing . The bread was a little over salted but still good. We ordered the filet , a kids salmon , the Mac and cheese and the steak salad . All were absolutely delicious ! The salmon was the absolute best and the chicken Mac and cheese was a close second! Great location. Wide open building with plenty of window seating and a patio as well. Took family here for lunch as we were at the farmer's market. Food was good. Nothing spectacular. Prices were about in the average range. But expected something more. Had a bbq chicken pizza. Enough for one person. Real cheesey. Bbq sauce was decent. Think the crust could've been better. I remember eating here with my parents and loving the food. After becoming an adult myself, I noticed that the food quality has gone down quite drastically from when I last had it. The service was also pretty poor. Being an Asian, I felt overwhelmed that there were a lot of white folks around me getting excellent service while my boyfriend and I would often be left hanging nor had people to check up on us. This restaurant definitely has some major red flags surrounding racial discrimination so definitely be wary of that. Went there for a bday dinner on Oct 20th. Food was good, but friendliness gets an f this time. We have been here many times with great service. From the hostess that greeted us to the manager overseeing everything. Our server at least smiled n was a little more friendly than the others. I get it, it's annoying when parties wanna ask questions about covid. I'm a server too. And maybe you have to repeat yourself 20 times a day, but every place we go in town is different n it doesn't kill you to answer a few questions about your current seating policy n for us wanting to understand it. Very disappointed in this visit. I wish I would've gotten some names but I was trying to organize everyone. Dark haired manager, young girl at hostess desk. Non descriptive, I know. Server was a guy n seemed like he didn't wanna be there, but did manage to smile. We had bday bags on the table n not a single mention of it or a happy bday. It's the little extras that make someone a great server, not just an order taker. Everyone just really missed the mark that night. I'm sure we will be back again, but this visit sucked. We were a party of five with no reservations who had left another restaurant because of an unwelcoming and rude hostess. We were greeted by a young man who was extremely accommodating. There wasn't a table available right then so he said we could go to the bar and that it would be 15 to 20 minutes. It ended up being about 10 minutes and we were shown to a beautiful table overlooking the water. The food was fabulous and our wait person was so friendly and helpful we couldn't believe it. What a disappointing experience. Used to be my favorite restaurant in Olympia but no more. Made reservations for 4 o'clock we were seated at 4:15 with tables available. Ordered a Sunset pork loin dinner...after getting a basket of dried bread the very dried out pork loin dinner followed. The side dish of corn bread pudding was so hard that it truly was inedible. The Caesar salad was good and the peach Cosmo delicious and would've loved to have had another one but the waiter didn't even bother asking. So the $100+ cost was a burn! Lame service and limited food options for lunch. The hostess was not very nice even when we had a reservation. The place was barely occupied. The server, Stephanie, was slow and not nice or friendly either. My kid wanted the tomato soup with grill cheese. They couldn't make him the grilled cheese and she wasn't able to offer a substitute, but they were able to make the toasts I ordered. Then, she left us waiting to order for dessert even when she passed by our table a few times. Kids' opinion is that they were rude and server was sassy I deducted a star for the service, one for food options in general and one more for they inability to make a simple grilled cheese or offer an alternative. I absolutely loved this restaurant when we lived in Olympia and I absolutely love coming back every visit back to Olympia. Our friends know that Hearthfire Grill is an absolute must when we are in town. The food here, especially seafood dishes are always well prepared and delicious. My favorite items usually come from the seasonal menus. The seasonal menu always features seasonal drinks, salads, entrees, and desserts. I love when a restaurant has staples, but special items that change through the year as well. They start each meal with bread that is warm, buttery, and has a hint of lemon. It is very addictive. One of my favorites is the seafood macaroni and cheese. It has plenty of cheese flavor and generous amounts of crab with bits of shrimp as well. The seasonal tomato salad is delicious with several kinds of tomatoes, croutons, parmesan, and mozzarella. The cornbread pudding and craisin pistachio rice that comes with many of the entrees are excellent sides. Dessert always has to be the slump. Part of the fun is that the flavor of the slump changes. It could be huckleberry or strawberry rhubarb or another seasonal favorite. read more

Went here yesterday with family as a reservation for a party of 6. The server was very polite and professional, which warranted a huge tip on our part. Food (the most important part to me) was excellent. I ordered a large Caesar salad and it was very fresh and delicious. I generally judge a place by their salads because it's the most simple, yet most telling of an establishment. I appreciated a more limited menu so the food can be prepped with love the way it should be. Really great experience. Staff did not seem hurried or irritated. Friends recommended going here for dinner. It was absolutely a great recommendation. Food was amazing. We got the calamari and loved the Panko breading, one of our friends got the dinner special which was a great value, she chose the flank, which was very flavorful. Another Got the fish and chips which were so fresh and also tasty. Another got the special cod dinner - also very fresh/healthy/tasty. I got the waygu sirloin - I ordered medium rare but it was more medium to me - but tender and tasty just the same. I think the mashed potatoes were my favorite - and I'm not even a mashed potato fan usually. Had chunks of potato - which I loved - so fresh. Somehow we made room to share desserts. The huckleberry jar pie and the ice cream. Yum. Nothing was leftover all around. Highly encourage a visit. They view of the water was an added bonus. read more

We started off with calamari (good choice) and grilled mushrooms... (really excellent choice). I had a Caesar salad which had the creamiest dressing. For an entree, I chose the petite filet, cooked perfectly. One of the best sides here is the corn pudding. Think more of a corn cake that is very moist and rich than a pudding. Finished with a simple, but delicious dessert, peppermint ice cream with drizzled chocolate. Great ending to a fine meal. This place can get very busy, so reservations are in order. I love this place! Never disappoints. Every time I visit Washington I have to come here. Went for my birthday and was yet again- very pleased. All their food is sensational and they are very accommodating to any food allergies or preferences. My sister is vegan and they were able to effortlessly make her a delicious meal.
