My gawd. The spending addiction I did not need that comes in the form of being aware of this clothing store is OVER 9000! (Yes that's a Dragonball reference. If you knew that without my having to say it, add me. If not, I feel very level Sad Panda for you.) I love it. So over priced but I love it! I'm all about constantly looking casual but dressy, that's how I roll, and that's exactly the kind of clothes this store offers. Really good quality in most cases, unique, sophisticated, classy, all while somehow still pulling off a bohemian feel. LOVE. I haven't had a chance to shop it yet - but I could see their home good items becoming must-haves as well as great gift items for the family! The store is amazing, huge, bright, and well organized, the staff super friendly and helpful - someone always approaches me and asks if they can help and leave me alone if I say "No" - which is great! I just bought my new favorite shirt here... a white, boatnecked, burnout tee with a fitted, gray, grosgrain ribbon-embellished corset. Squeal! It's worth more than the sky-high price tag: I'm wearing it with big sunglasses, some cropped black capri pants and distressed gunmetal flats. I can see it with a skintight pencil skirt and stilletos. I wear it with jeans or with short, frou-frou, flouncy, summer skirt... anything or nothing. It is Beautiful! Plus, I got to watch the staff put together the always impressive window display. It's literally performance art. I could pack a lunch and spend the day here browsing, reading and buying... I might have to live in a cardboard box when done, but I'd look sensational! P.S. Any of you know where I can get the black and white cityscape print We heart Vera dress in a size 4? Craptastic customer service. Decent selection, if not overpriced for certain things. Did I mention the craptastic service? I don't want someone to follow me around the store and try to sell me crap that I don't need and won't look good just for the sake of the sale. But I do expect to be greeted or asked if I need help in the first *20 minutes* that I'm in a store. Is that really asking too much? IS IT??? I love this store. I came in hoping they would have some candles on sale and I scored the last large London Thread candle they had. So cute! I love smelling candles here, the volcano candles are my favorite and I never get sick of them. There are so many candles in this place you can walk around smelling and an hour goes by. I also just love the feel of this store. In fall I bought a great coat here on sale for $99. I didn't think it'd be that warm during the harshest winter days but the blizzard has come and gone and I'm still toasty in this awesome coat. I get lots of compliments on it too because it's unique and cute - which is why I love almost everything in Anthropolgie. I also love that the saleswomen never bother me while I'm looking. Reviewing national chains is always a bit boring, but I'll review this one because I think it's better than the previous ratings give it credit for. Yes, the service here is a bit slow and passive compared to other locations, but is that really a bad thing? Is being asked your first name in the fitting rooms, getting your purchases held while you shop for more, and being chatted up about how that is indeed a very cute dress not personable enough? I find the regular service at Anthropologie a bit too much, and could use even less than they offer here (I really do think I had smalltalked with every single employee before I finally left). If you need even more conversation, bring a friend! When I went in after the holidays it seemed like the entire store was on sale. Lots and lots of pretty things, and a much larger non-clothing sales area than the downtown store. This store even carries some one-of-a-kind design items such as handmade notebooks (by ex libris anonymous, if I'm not mistaken). So, keeping in mind that Anthropologie is a fabulous, ridiculous store that buys clothing items in Asia for 20 cents and sells them in America for 200 Dollars, this particular location is still no worse than any others. read more

I wish I didn't like expensive things. But I love Anthropolgie. This is a good location - it's never been super busy when I've gone in. My latest mission was to purchase a smokin' New Years Eve dress, and after trying on a lot of dresses (I've really gotta love a dress to spend Anthropologie Money on it), I found a super sexy NYE dress. It was strappy, went to slightly above my knees and was tan, blue, pink and green watery dots. Who says I can't get descriptive? Anthropologie is the most beautiful store ever, I try to avoid going because I always want to buy everything, but unfortunatly with very few items being priced under $100 this makes it quite costly to 'window shop' !! They have fabulous clothes with great details and a really cool housewares sectoin. Lets be honest I usually head straight towards the sale room. I have always had great service here, they started a dressing room for me and got me other sizes and all my picks were from the clearance section. The clientel on the otherhand I can't speak so fondly of, a ltitler pretensious perhaps, but it makes for good people watching/listening. read more

This review is long overdue...I love this place! Anthropologie is crack-cocaine for me; at times I think that I should just set-up a direct deposit. Of the two locations, I prefer Southport over State/Division; the employees are much friendlier and seemingly more efficient at the cash wrap since it doesn't seem to take nearly as long to purchase. As others have mentioned, some of the clothes can be on the pricey side, but I don't know that it is really all that different from shops that are similar...plus, I can usually get the cost per wear to $5 (makes it easier to justify). I actually just purchased two very fun dresses for the spring/summer that I can't wait to wear...hopefully the weather will start cooperating! read more

This Anthropologie location is truly welcome. I never loved having to go downtown or to the suburbs to shop. Parking on Southport is pretty easy, too! Win-win. There is not a ton of inventory at this store for it being so big. I was disappointed. When I have shopped here, most of the shoppers are in the sale section - perhaps attributing to the lack of selection overall in the store. I will continue to shop here because I love the store, but I will be getting more stuff online because the selection is slim. read more

I have loved and shopped Anthropologie for years! After getting engaged last year and finding out they have a wedding registry, I was BEYOND thrilled!!!!! I started our registry on-line and although it was so fun and super easy to use, I always dreamed of walking into a store, having the scanning gun in hand and going nuts! Well... my dreams came true this weekend. While in Chicago, my fiance and I went to Southport Anthro and had such a positive experience. First of all, the store is one of my favorites I have ever been to. I love that its perfectly spaced out and you don't have that "bull in a china shop" feel. The store was very clean and I loved the cheese/wine/spring/ art work and displays. And the balloons - ahh so cute! They handed us a scanner and we went on our way. I loved that I could touch and feel all the items, see how they looked together and even check out all the different types of silverware. They let us do our thing for the most part but there was an employee always available to ask questions to- Maureen was great!... she showed us options we might not have thought of / seen on our own and she wasn't pushy but bubbly and seemed excited for us. The process was over before I knew it and so easy! We even got a cute wishbone bottle opener as a thank you. :) I would recommend this to any bride - you would be silly not to stop in and register!! I love Anthropologie clothes and the selection and presentation at this location is excellent. The housewares section is so perfectly detailed I walk in and think I need everything. They keep the store clean and organized and always help to find my size at another location if they don't have it there. The salespeople are really great. Normally I don't go for employee recommendations; after all, I know what I like, right? But they have brought me items I normally wouldn't pick up which turn out to be different and interesting. I recently went in to buy jeans and they found exactly the style I wanted on the second try. This is definitely a personal record. The only recommendation I have would be to help people through the lines more quickly, especially at holiday time. Lovely store and thanks for the help! read more

Obviously, I've only given them one star because it's necessary to complete the review. This particular Anthropologie , 3552 N. Southport, has the most overt form of racial profiling. If you don't believe me, visit this store and take a look around. Among the many cultural references elaborately detailed throughout this store, the captivating fragrant soap, their beautiful and organized textiles and prints, as well as the overall organic beauty of appropriated art forms, one may find that "Anthropologie" alludes to more than more than what may meet the naked eye. As I stepped in the store to exchange one of their popular drinking mugs for another, I was greeted by an overzealous sales-associate... "Did, you need help with any of that?" The sounds of her wooden heeled boots were following my every footstep. At that time I was only holding the gold brimmed monogram mug... She continues to follow my every move, then asking if she could not only take the mug, but hold on to my shopping bag from another store. Is this protocol I wonder? I allow her to hold onto the mug, but not my shopping bag. As I proceed to mingle around in search of my illustrious scented Mistral Lychee Rose Soap. The clunkiness of her boots continues to haunt me....I turn around, and she makes a swift disappearing act. What's going on here I ask myself? After numerous visits to Anthropologie, I've always gravitated towards their charm; their ability to appreciate international customs and cultural distinction. From what I've studied as an fashion industry insider I have learned that Anthropologie is created to not only provide a unique experience throughout their visually crafted store, yet a personal experience of elegance, grace, and sophistication. Their staff of talented visual artists have done a dynamic job at making the store mimic the home of a young, traveled, cultured woman. Which race of woman is the question? There is Asian and African inspired décor, and fashion, as well as Latin, and Tribal art themes strategically canvassed throughout each location but the audience Anthro attemps to target is left to be determined. As I observed the contradiction I was standing in, I instantly became saddened, disgusted, and angered. I realized that although Anthropologie may use cultural reference as a means to add to the allure of their very existence, there is very little cultural understanding at all. Their staff is not diverse, upon taking a look at their seasonal catalog, one will not find ANY international women of color, and most significantly, based upon how I've been treated while visiting; they expect their clientele to reflect this. Which poses my question: how can a brand create an image which promotes ethnic identity, and an blatant appreciation for international customs act so incredibly culture shocked when a woman of color walks through their glass, paneled doors.? The eager sales associate continued to make circles around me as I made my way through the Anthropologie Southport location. Assuring that our' cultural difference' wouldn't result in me slipping a soap dish or butter tray into my Michael Kors handbag. Flustered and overwhelmed I completed my transaction and left the store questioning the objectivity of the Anthropologie brand, and how they continue to get away with their questionable practices. read more

I adore this store's style for both clothing & decor. What I dont adore is the pricing and the sometimes snooty staff (as if they can afford this stuff on their salaries any more than I can!). What I'd be interested to know is if there are any companies out there that are doing knock-offs of Anthropologies styles and selling them for a more reasonable price. if urban outfitters is for high school and college kids, anthropologie is for grad students and beyond. while i love love love their clothes and the way they fit, i can rarely justify spending money on their fullprice items. however, im always impressed with the unique-ness of each of their items and since they have such a large store, there is always something fun in the sale section!! this is a great place to find a housewarming present as their homewares are also unique and funky. as for service, the fitting room employees seem very helpful, but trying to find someone on the floor was a little frustrating... however, i seem to wander in here at the height of busy retail times (mid afternoon on the weekends). my big complaint (besides the affordability which, really isnt all THAT bad and is something that employees cant control anyway) is that the fitting rooms are always insanely dusty and it kind of freaks me out that the dust bunnies could crawl into my purse at any time. please please please invest in a swiffer!! read more

Oh Anthropologie! I love you SO MUCH. First, this Anthro outpost is huge. Tons of sizes, lots of variety. It's refreshing to have pretty much every item in a small, medium, large and sometimes extra small and extra large. The sale area is nothing to shake a fist at, either. Because let's be real: Thrifty ladies such as myself always make a beeline for that sale rack first to find a sweet deal. And at Anthropologie? Deals can be found! And in lots of sizes, too! I also love the sales staff. Sometimes I feel like the salesgirls are judging me if I'm not dressed up or I'm not carrying a designer handbag at that particular moment. They'll treat you like a queen at Anthropologie! I never leave this store empty handed. Love it. LOVE. read more

Plain and simple: I love Anthropologie and always have. This particular location though deserves a million stars based on its incredibly helpful staff. The staff has always been kind, welcoming, and helpful. However, I have had two completely stellar experiences in the last few months. Once, when a family member had passed away and I needed a funeral dress stat, I called to see if they had a specific one in the store that I had spotted online. They had it and held it for me in all sizes. Keep in mind that I DID NOT tell them that this was for a funeral. When I came in to try on the dress, I also pulled a few others (all black/dark for the funeral). Without me ever saying anything, one of the girls picked up on the fact that I was shopping for a funeral. She proceeded to bring me a few more options, one of which worked perfectly. She even wished me the best. I couldn't believe the compassion, intuition, and kindness. Fast forward to a happier time. I had a return to make that became complicated due to online craziness. Anyway, because of the inconvenience (which I never once complained about), the sales girl offered me a 20% discount on my whole purchase that day...just because they cared and felt bad about the inconvenience of my difficult return. Amazing, amazing, amazing staff. SO professional! Plus great clothes, of course. read more

I love this store. It has such fun window displays, home ware and clothing. I bought the best teal bowls from this store... they are a perfect color, size and very durable. All of their clothing is very well constructed and lasts a long time. The only negatives are that the store is pretty pricey and they close so early! I'd say spend the money on some key pieces like a jacket or summer dress. read more

The staff and my experience is so much better than my experience at the N. State street store (rude and snotty staff). Even though the price are a bit high, the merchandise is of beautiful quality. This store is cute and it's fun to look around, but really only to get decoration ideas. There are a lot of other cute places (or cheap online sites like bluefly.com or overstock.com) where you can get similar stuff to what Anthropologie sells for like 1/10th of the price. I'm not kidding. Also, most of the people living around Southport in the apartments are just-out-of-school girls who work in PR. How on earth can you afford to shop here while making less than $35,000 a year? YOu are better off buying stuff that looks like this online or at other cheaper stores. Now, believe it or believe it, but I have never been to this store - anywhere, ever. So....with all the hubbabaloo about it and people going broke on it I thought to myself, "Self - check it out.". So, I went with my friend who all but own stock in it she shops there so often. The verdict? Wait for it - wait for it...'saw'right. I think there are enough cool boutiques in Chi-town and the burbs so - I don't get it. Lots of tops with twists and knots and though I found a few things cute, I didn't find them worth the price. I also don't get the miscellaneous textiles and hardware. Not enough to do anything with and, again, the price! Basically, it wasn't bad, but I don't get the addiction. Oh well.... read more

I love shopping at the Southport Anthro for a variety of reasons (convenience, selection, sale items, easy online returns) but, hands down, it is the customer service that keeps me coming back. I know it totally depends on who is working that day but I genuinely feel the corporate leadership insists on outstanding customer service from their employees. So many times, the staff has gone above and beyond to help me out. As a 50 something, a lot of their styles are too young for me but the youthful staff is always happy to help me things that look great and are age appropriate. Thanks! read more

I like this store - the store's atmosphere and decor. You can find great clothes and accessories, but some pieces are way overpriced for the quality. I understand paying a lot for a great piece, but I don't like to pay a lot for something that looks good - than falls apart. I. Absolutely. Love. Anthropologie. My wallet does not. BUT, if you are looking for unique, original, one-of-a-kind clothing, definitely come to this store! I love the layout of Anthro because you kind of feel like you are walking through a friend or neighbor's house or something. There are kitchen areas, bedroom areas, and little stands with random candles, books, etc. all over the place. Also, my very favorite thing about the clothes in here are the dresses. Stay away from ordering anything online. I placed an order twenty four days ago (fully paid) and half of it is still missing. Customer Service is terrible if anything goes awry in the shipping process; they play dumb and then want you to wait three weeks to get your money back even though it was their shipping carrier's error (and they have the item sitting in their warehouse). Store service is nice but shipping customer service is a nightmare! read more

Anthropologie - shook up my look! I am in my earl 50s and not overweight but not svelte either. I have so many clothes in my closet from ten years ago that I literally have nothing very current or interesting to wear. Well now I have to make some presentations on stage and I need age appropriate clothes that make me look like a million bucks but also don't cast me as over the hill. I ordered online about five things that looked good online but when they got here none of them worked. I headed back to Anthropologie with low expectations, but with an open mind. Who knew they had lovely, elegant, and beautifully fitting pants, jackets, and gorgeous tops and jewelry that my husband, dutifully reviewing each outfit in the dressing room couch - approved of. Wow! He's pretty fashion forward but he's pretty skeptical of what looks good and what doesn't. I walked out of there with four tops, two pairs of slacks, a pencil skirt, a summer sweater and a necklace. All of them work together perfectly. Returning home I immediately cleaned out my closet and began to find gems of dresses and pants saved by the addition of some nice jackets and tops. This was easily the best shopping experience of the past decade...you have to know what looks good on you and be skeptical, but this store, full of eclectic dresses and tops may not work for everyone but in there are some amazing combinations of tops and pants rivaling designer wear and far exceeding what you would find at the standard JCrew, Brooks Brothers, Ann Taylor...all pretty boring. I'm a creative who is also an executive producer so I can straddle the line between corporate and just enough details to look exciting and elegant.
