Antiquariat am Gendarmenmarkt is located across the street from where Gayle and I had Lunch (Augustiner) when we were in Berlin. I spend some quality time in here while we were waiting for the restaurant to open. This bookstore specializes in antique/historic books and maps. I love love love places like this!
But since this type of bookstore isn't Gayle's thing, she was nice enough to walk around the neighborhood while I stayed inside and took it all in. I ended up with a pre-WW2 German map and a nicely bound geographic section map. I left happy and wondered what treasure I might have missed. This is definitely a place that requires at least a couple visits.
Although little English was spoken within, the staff at Antiquariat am Gendarmenmarkt provided the help I needed, and they clearly knew their literary stuff. This is also another example that for "analog" (vs. digital) materials, the length between dying and dead can be a very long time. read more
