This thrift shop came highly recommended and I'd like to say it met expectations, but..,…read more I guess as far as a larger rural Iowa thrift store it was okay. The prices are reasonable and the organization is meh. I just wasn't impressed. It felt dirty and looked like not a lot of care went into anything. That things were just kind of thrown on the shelves and landed as is... Maybe we hit them on a bad day and the customers before us had torn through things haphazardly? The thrift stores in Story City and the Waterloo Cedar Falls area (and where I'm from in the Des Moines metro) are way more put together.

My gf and I stumbled across this little shop today…read more It's a three story shop with salvage and vintage items in the basement. Food items and misc new items on the main floor. The top floor is more new merchandise and a large wine selection. Many of the food and new items are from local Iowa producers (manufacturers, wineries, orchards, etc.) which I love to see! The shop is clean and the displays are well done. Pricing is fair and plainly marked. I assume the woman who helped us is the owner/one of the owners. She was very helpful and social with us. #iowanice A nice little stop!

I came by there and I was waiting in line at the cash register and I was looking at the different…read morekind of alcohols and energy pills they have and stuff and there was one pill on it that said showed a man and a woman laying a man standing up in a woman laying on the ground and the pill said something about f****** her and then kill her and so I picked it up and looked at it it's some kind of a one of those pills that make you go longer in bed or something but I just you know a family Mart like that kids come in and out sometimes I just think it's really inappropriate and I pointed it out to the guy that could barely speak English and he kind of looked at me like it's none of my business but also I live in the neighborhood and the grass is knee high they always kept their grass clipped up nice and clean in the parking lot clean now it's starting to get kind of trashy like I said I was thinking about going over and mowing it used to be a friendly neighbor but you know what the guy's in business he's got a reputation to keep up and and you know some have some kind of a you know first impressions mean a lot and well that's my first impression of the new management anybody got a lawn mower maybe that maybe you want to go over and more but I sure the hell ain't yes not the same music station it used to be not at all I wouldn't recommend it to nobody and I'll quit going there I'm going to Casey's general store a block farther up the road from now on I could have took a photo but you can drive by there and take a look for yourself I didn't want to waste the time getting that close I won't even drive by there anymore I'm I mean I live just down the street but I don't need to drive by there anymore I can go up to Casey's general store now that I can recommend I'll give Casey's five stars out of five the new guy buys the business and now it looks like he never had it or lived in such a nice neighborhood I guess he's not accustomed to neighbors being neighborly and taking care of their own keeping their yard up so that the neighborhood looks nice yeah I can imagine some people just don't know when they got it good I don't recommend this place at all okay I got to go I'm on my way over to the Casey's general store on Hudson and 1st Street.​​

Hen and Chicks Studio is a wonderful quilt shop offering quality quilting fabrics, patterns, wool…read moreand more. They have a retreat center upstairs that can be rented for day or overnight stays and have a variety of classes. You can become certified to use their longarm machine and machine quilt your own quilts. But, best of all, is the customer service. Each employee is truly knowledgeable and takes the time to ensure you are truly satisfied. I've attended several "Come Create with Me" events and have spent time in the retreat center as a mother/daughter duo. Can't recommend enough!
