The ambience is great and the food overall is decently good, but it's not cheap for what it is. The angel hair was too cold and lacked flavor. The ravioli and salad were great. Chocolate chip cookies were cold and hard. Our entrees took over an hour (we only got pasta?) and I was disappointed that the waitress didn't make a note to point out that the wait had been long and mention something like "the food will be out shortly". I have no idea why I did not know about this place before because gosh it's lovely! The ambience is cosy and romantic. And the food is delicious. I had a share of the oysters, strip steak, sea bass and shrimp spaghetti. I liked all of it. The steak was my most favorite it was perfectly cooked and the onions were delicious. A friend of mine really wanted to try Anton's after my first visit so I came back here with two friends, this time on a Friday night for a 6:30pm reservation (kind of early). I was the first one there, so they sat me at the bar in the meantime to have a drink and then once everyone got there they moved us immediately to our table. I got the same waiter (super curly haired gentleman) and he's honestly the best. We ordered a ton of stuff and he told us the best timed way to eat it and was right. We got the Camembert and cherries (repeat), the aubergine with burnt sourdough (repeat), oysters, angel hair francese, the truffle ravioli, the ribeye with whipped potatoes, and the apple pie. They also had the somm help us pick a wine and it was some domestic red I forget but was good -- Rustique, a lil wild and medium body around $115 for the bottle. The repeat reviews are on the previous post and still hold strong. Oysters delicious. Angel hair francese 5/5 wish I had more, the ravioli wasn't bad but I think bc I was enjoying the francese so much it overshadowed so giving ravioli 4/5, the ribeye and mashed potatoes 1000/5 - better than some steakhouses, and apple pie my friends gave a 5/5 - I don't like sweets too much but was still yummy to me. We sat outside on one of the warmest days so far this year, which in itself was lovely. It's also right on the best dog-spotting path in the village. So if you like dogs, go there around 6pm and watch the parade of west villagers walking their varied selection of furry friends! We even had a golden retriever run over to us to say hi- it was great lol! My thoughts on the actual restaurant: Our waiter was really nice, and let us linger over drinks before finally ordering food about 2 hours after we sat down. For dinner we had the almonds and olives, which is a perfect drinks snack. The ravioli portion was small and the sauce was a bit too salty for our liking, even though the filling and pasta were good. My friends and I stopped into Anton's on a gloomy Wednesday for dinner. Even for mid-week, the place was bustling! We were seated as soon as our party arrived and looked over the menu. For drinks we all ordered off of the cocktail menu, which has an array of classic and unique drinks. The food menu is also filled with a nice combination of classic dishes and twists on classics. For dinner, we all shared the San Marco salad and I personally went with the Bucatini Baczynsky. Drinks were excellent and the salad was a nice starter. I enjoyed the Bucatini as well. I can't say I'd order it again, as it was a little spicy and messy to eat, but I enjoyed trying something different! Service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive and gave us some great recommendations. Ambiance is ok, nothing terribly unique about the interior. The space is pretty small, so it gets loud when it's full. Overall, Anton's is a solid Italian spot. Food, drinks, and service all made for a pleasant experience! read more

My experience here for weekend brunch led me to observe that it seemed to be more of a scene then about food, but brunch is never a great barometer for a restaurant, so I am giving Anton's the benefit of the doubt. The servers were great and very knowledgeable about the menu. We had the Popover (one popover for $6) and did not really enjoy it. It didn't seem like it was made to order and for the price tag I think we expected something more elevated or at least more than one. For our mains we had the ravioli (very good) and the beef sandwich (reported to be very good). The ravioli was spinach ricotta in a butter sauce and although delicious, it was not filling at all. I don't like leaving negative reviews but there was something wrong for sure on Saturday night for an early reservation at 5:30. I can't understand when half the place was so empty that early they went to seat us at the smallest coldest table by the front door. After our No in unison the quickly moved us to a table opposite the bar. The noise was like being at the Super Bowl for two hours. Just deafening. I have never shouted more throughout a dinner. And then the server was just awful. He never told us there was specials which we learned after we ordered, he never brought us bread, and the funniest thing was after we paid our bill and about to stand he totally forgot and asked us if we wanted to order desert. It was like a scene out of a movie. The pastas were just ok. Not very big portions and overall I would recommend folks try any of the 1000 better restaurants in the area. read more

The food is very good. The hospitality is unquestionably lacking. I have been here several times and withheld writing a review until now but these issues have not been fixed and confirmed my views. Dinner has never been properly managed any time I've been here. There are long waits for a table (even when you have a reservation), and the front of house is rude and condescending. Be prepared to wander around the village to find a random bar to wait in while they get your table ready. When your table should be ready , they direct you to move out of the way and go to a crowded corner of the bar while also apologizing for the delay. And on top of this , they do not offer to seat you at the bar or help get you a drink as one would expect at a peer restaurant under the same circumstances. The table they provide after this (both times) is one at the back with a bone chilling draft. They compel putting down the whole order at once as many nice restaurant do, but don't deliver the same caliber of service. The only time I've thought service was conducted as it should have been here was at brunch during COVID shortly after they opened. That said, great food. Go every now and then to avoid all the hassle. read more

What a lovely spot my friend and I were lucky enough to stumble upon on a warm November Saturday afternoon. The hostesses were very welcoming despite the fact the place was packed and one even went so far as to make sure we knew that brunch service was ending soon and get us some menus so we could look while waiting to be seating. She also helpfully offered her advice on favorites. Despite looking like a supermodel moonlighting as a hostess, she treated us regular fifty-something year old ladies like old friends. It was a nice way to start the meal and portentous of the lovely experience to come. We both ordered omelettes, which were cooked to perfection, not too dry or underdone, and my cocktail was really well-balanced and delicious and enough to give me a light appropriate-for-3pm-buzz (my friend wasn't drinking). Lovely classic American fare. I ordered delivery. I ordered the grilled broccoli, broiled chicken wings, and chocolate tart with sour cream. Extremely classic and simple (appearing!) food. The grill on the broccoli came through tremendously. The broccoli itself is nice. The wings were simple and flavorful, served with celery and mayo. The portions are big here, this is not bird food. The wings are listed as an appetizer and the broccoli is listed as a side. There was also two thick slices of SEEDY BREAD. What not to love!!! I wonder if they bake it themselves or where the bread is from. The chocolate tart with sour cream is super creamy. The sour cream is lovely. I'm excited to try dine-in service after this. After trying to go to RH rooftop restaraunt by walk in to no avail, we had to settle for this place. The wait was 30 minutes and we were seated outside. There were a few tables indoor dining. Despite the fall weather, it wasn't cold dining outside because they had heaters on the side of the restaraunt. They have two available bathrooms inside. Overpriced and not a wide variety. I ordered the cavatelli. There were only about 5 pasta options and 5 meat entree options. I wasn't a fan of any of the choices. We had an option of still or sparkling water (how fancy). The waitress seemed to judge or was at dismay that we didn't order any drinks or starters, continually asking. Maybe that's how it usually goes with their normal customers but I usually just get an entree at restaurants. The other staff members were extremely kind though. The cavatelli was joined by broccoli and a few other veggie bites. It was a good combo but the taste reminded me of gnocchi and i'm not a fan of gnocchi. It gets overwhelming/ too heavy after a while. I wish there were more options. The restaraunt seemed to have more older/mature customers so I wouldn't recommend this place if you're a young adult/ teen. I personally wouldn't come here again. read more

Maybe it was the sunshine-drenched sidewalk tables, maybe it was the charm of the small West Village side streets that I haven't seen in so long, maybe it was the chatter of the table behind me planning a trip out to Cape Cod, but Anton's left me in a cheery mood. I will say that the price point and the portions seem more on par with three dollar signs rather than two and ultimately the menu, while fresh and tasty, is more or less interchangeable with other such restaurants in the neighborhood. Maybe with the exception of the dessert. Brunch seems to be reverting back to its normal unflagging self pre-pandemic so would recommend making a reservation. If you're wearing shorts or a skirt or a thin dress, just a tip that the chairs will leave those unflattering indentations on the back of your thighs once you get up. I went with the chilled mush peas - I love peas and the mushed version keeps trying to be the new guacamole. This was delicious, albeit small, and came with a better version of Everything But the Bagel seasoning. Tried a bite of my friend's pasta and it was cooked well. The chilled, stewed strawberries on top of the dessert were perfect and now I am looking up how to make bavarian. The portions suggest perhaps ordering two dishes for every one person, though the salads actually looked pretty substantial. Restroom is open to customers but you'll obviously need to wear a mask. read more

Anton's was great! My boyfriend and I walked in at 6:15 weeknight and got a table outside. The Angel hair Francese was the best thing we ate, though the skin on the Roasted heritage chicken was also amazing. Baby potatoes and Flourless Chocolate tart with sour cream for dessert were also decent. I like that the food here is deceptively simple - everything was really flavorful, though uncomplicated in appearance/description. If I could Anton's 6 stars I would. I first went there on Thursday for lunch. Elope on the Hudson cocktail, French dip and whipped potatoes and olive oil and a strawberry tart. My god! Such amazing flavor profiles! Best cocktail I've think I've ever had definitely the best meal I've had in New York on my multiple trips there. So good, I went back the next night for dinner. I absolutely adored this establishment for so many reasons. We found this place because our beloved Ina Garten posted it on her social. We didn't have high expectations, we had seen pictures of some steak and the lasganette so we knew we'd probably get those for sure. We were celebrating my friend's belated bday. For two asian gals. I'm from out of town so I just wanted to try everything. Honestly, I enjoyed everything! Some amazing standouts, and some solid good bites. Sometimes a dish doesn't have to blow you away. It's cool to just see how all these dishes work together or eating something you've never had before in a unique execution. Ok, let's go on to the standouts: Cup of chicken broth. Oh this just warmed and comforted us and it was in the cutest little antique cup/bowl. Lasagnette - SO. GOOD! Lasagna is projected to be served more than ever in 2020 so I guess this was me manifesting that! Angel hair francese - Amazing! I had a hard time figuring out which pasta I liked more cuz they were both so yummy. Steak - Quite delicious! I couldn't enjoy this as much as i would have liked because I was so full. Service if you are not a large group can be less than friendly Ordered brunch special: Chicken sandwich with celery root purée and chicken broth. Pino noir Total: $44 The food redeemed a lot! The chicken was soo juicy and the broth with sherry in vintage dinnerware was special. It was a delicious meal minus the bottled Tabasco offered in lieu of a sauce which the chicken really didn't need. Will return for dinner. read more

Nick Anderer (formerly of Maialino and Martina Pizzeria) just opened his new restaurant in the old Frankie's space. The menu and vibe are described as "old New York", with starters, salads, mains and a big pasta section. Everything is excellent, but wow, many of the pastas is definitely the way to go. The Lasagnettes ($25) and Angel Hair Francese ($17) are especially incredible. I think I'll be back ASAP for lunch, which starts soon. read more

Service was good -- not friendly (even by NYC standards) but very attentive staff that were constantly refilling our water, checking in, etc. The menu is not extensive, but there is something for everyone. I had the Waldorf salad, which I really did not enjoy; it was swimming in dressing and was very heavy on the turmeric flavor. But the chicken on the salad was amazing... very moist and delicious and the portion size was really generous. The restaurant is very clean and cute. There is a decent sized bar to grab a drink while you are waiting. Although I would likely not return to Anton's due to disliking the food, I do think it is worth a try if you're looking for a place in the area. read more

I had high hopes for this one. Sadly, a 2 is generous. I'm not a friend of the restaurant nor was I paid to review it so here it goes. We were here for a 6pm reservation on Sunday. We arrived at 5:55 and had to wait for our table to be ready. The table itself was wobbly, no one noticed. We each ordered a glass of wine. The wine glasses arrived within 5 minutes, the wine arrived 15 minutes later. We ordered the broiled oysters to start but just two since they were charging the absurd price of $5.50 per. Twenty minutes after our oysters were done, our first pastas arrived. The angel hair and the lasagnettes were good but nothing spectacular. There was a handful of teeny tiny clams in the angel hair and the ragu was like any other ragu you've had in your life. Not $25 worthy. Thirty minutes later, our hanger steak arrived. We also ordered the shmaltz potatoes. Both were under seasoned. The steak was cooked perfectly so I'll give them that much. With the Chef's resume, I expected a lot more. Sadly this place is way overpriced for what they're delivering. And what they delivered is disappointment. read more

I love this restaurant. The room is warm and cozy. The lighting perfect. Good music is played on a very shitty sound system, but it's ok in a sorta "as it would sound in your apartment" kinda way. So you forgive it, and it all sorta ladders up to a very homely vibe. Very cool west village local crowd. And excellent food !!! Really really, really good food ?!! The apple pie is amazing. The bucatini is perfection. The salads are fantastic. So why did I not give it 5 stars ? I'll tell you why. The staff aren't cool. They just don't seem to be enjoying their work. Their vibe is off. There's a hint of attitude. They're not as warm and friendly as they could be given the vibe of the place. Our waiter kept things very impersonal. Also seemed to be in a bit of a rush to get us out of there. The rest of the staff don't come across all that much warmer either. It's just such a huge pity coz this could be a 5 star+ spot.
