Yelp Review 2026 #256:…read more After hours of walking around Santiago, it was nice to find a more peaceful place to just chill. They have exhibits on the revolutionary history of Chile, photography, etc. There's a cafe, and I f course a huge area and floors for reading books, etc. This is the oldest and one of the largest national libraries in Latin America built in August 1813. French neoclassical building with stained glass ceiling, marble staircases and columns. During my visit, there was a section that was covered. I'm not sure if they're renovating that section of if that's just how it is. It's a nice place to visit for free even if you don't like to read or go to libraries.

There are plenty of desks and there is an outdoor courtyard at the back which is beautiful for working outdoors in the summer. There are also a row of 6 computers inside free for use. The staff are really kind. It's always full of students, working people and some seniors using the computers and reading newspapers. Love this place. Washrooms on site and a small coffee machine. Nothing special but great as a free working space.
