In short: Michael is the best help I have found for carpentry / cabinet / furniture work in Knoxville since moving here 10 years ago. He really cares about his work and making sure his customers are happy. He is also very reasonably priced and very easy to work with. I highly, highly recommend him for any sort of carpentry or furniture work you are considering for your home. We found Michael on yelp and called him about a pantry job we had had in mind for about a year. We have sort of a cookie-cutter home in West Knoxville and the pantry in the home was very small and very builder grade. Our family is expanding -- so we wanted to upgrade the pantry to make better use of the (limited) space we had. We had Michael over to ask him about options. We showed him a video we had found of someone who had a similar problem and had built a solution we really liked. He told us he could do it and we hired him. Pricing was very transparent and very reasonable. He gave us timelines and worked to meet the timeline. There was a delay due to a winter storm in Knoxville, but he always kept us in the loop and worked with us to schedule. When install day came, he was quick and made sure we did not have a big hole in our wall for more than a couple days. Overall, we love the finished product! The work feels high quality and we have so much more space than we are used to. In fact, we're now hiring Michael again to build some cabinetry with a sink insert for our garage. If you're thinking about something similar for your home, we cannot recommend Michael highly enough!
Mike was a great joy to work with. My husband and I wanted a new media cabinet for our new home we had just bought, but everything we liked was either back ordered for 8 months or the specifications were just slightly off from what we wanted. I found Mike via Yelp and got a quote pretty quickly. Since he's local on the westside he invited us to stop by and talk wood choices and any other specifications we might want. We went with walnut and talked about everything from the positioning of cable holes in the back, to the way the doors open and close and he really takes the time to understand your vision. Or if you have a lack of vision he has a lot of ideas or examples of past work that might serve as inspiration. The best part is that you don't have to wait 8 months for Pottery Barn to just tell you that your furniture is yet again further delayed. Mike is super upfront about the time it'll take for final delivery of your piece. He only works on one project at a time so you know when he's starting on yours he's fully committed and that you'll have your piece soon. He delivered the piece for us and worked with us to time it for our moving day. We couldn't be happier with the final result and I definitely will keep Mike in mind for future projects.
From the first initial meeting and consultation, I sensed that Mike was the real deal--intelligent, kind, warm, and such a fine craftsman. I wanted a custom bookshelf built into one side of a wall in our bungalow and it ended up simply beautiful--just as if it was there originally. The walls and floors are a bit wobbly because it's an original craftsman bungalow and I know Mike spent much time and care into making sure everything fit perfectly. During the process, he would check in with me and I got to see the progress of the shelves being built too and Mike explained everything in great detail--trim, baseboard, alignment, spacing, flush mounting, types of wood, symmetry, etc. My plan is to paint it entirely white to match the rest of the walls, but I can already tell this adds so much charm and character to the home. Thank you again Mike for being just awesome and so friendly and professional! I would hire him for any project again for sure!

Mike turned an incoherent description and unreadable sketches into the coffee table of my dreams. The craftsmanship is stellar, but Mike is far more than an extraordinary craftsman, he's an artist. It was his suggestion to add a strip of walnut to the top of the table to add uniqueness and visual interest and his idea to include the walnut accents on the legs (which I can only image were very, very difficult to execute.) His communication is great. My advice is when you are discussing a project with Mike: listen to his suggestions because the end result will be beyond your expectations.

Absolutely thrilled with this outdoor sideboard that Mike built for us. The wood is quartersawn white oak that is from a 250 year old farm house in France. He loves a challenge and works with what he has. He used tongue and groove to secure the pieces so the top is like a single piece of wood!! Very supreme craftsmanship that You don't see anymore. He even saved the old iron nails from the farm house and used those too. For almost the same price you can have some thing that is custom built and special- something that is a conversation piece, rather than something that is just from an online store. Since this wood is suitable for outdoors, all we need to do is keep linseed oil on it. Old world style. New world durability.
I worked with Mike to build a Hindu Temple for our house. Mike was professional right from the start, set the right expectations and clearly communicated when he can start and finish. In the meantime we worked on a design where he really helpful in giving ideas but at the same time not pushing towards something and respecting customer's decision making. Overall a great experience and great results!!
Half the price and beautiful work on a prized possession. I contacted Mike and a few other five star woodworkers on Yelp about an exotic zebra wood table that I purchased 21 years ago. The table had broken and an attempt at repair had been executed by an amateur. It was a mess. Mike was prompt in his reply and was enthusiastic in undertaking the project. Mike approaches his work in an artistic way; he brainstormed with me and imagined a way in which to repair the table that made me feel comfortable. I care a great deal about the table and knew that Mike would respectfully repair it. Mike was able to repair the table in two hours and added a stain and wax finish that brought the unique piece back to life. The work was done beautifully and i could not endorse Mike enough. I should note that Mike charged me for two hours of work and that a different five star woodworker had quoted me five hours. You should feel confident that you are getting a fair deal and careful work.
Mike is a true craftsman with a great imagination and so easy to work with. We have a 70-80# petrified wood specimen that I wanted to use as a side table but it was top heavy and unstable. He made a base from reclaimed oak flooring with oak "branches" projecting up to anchor it. I hope he enjoyed the process as much as we did. We love the result.

Mike just wrapped up this wall-length 3-part storage bench in walnut for us, and we couldn't be happier with it. From the get-go, he was highly responsive, set fair expectations, and communicated clearly. In terms of the project itself, he was a joy to collaborate with: we gave him some initial ideas, he helped us iterate on them; he measured and provided wood samples as our ideas solidified; and he gave us a quote and time to mull it over before starting. During the build process, he bounced great ideas off us while continuing to meet the overall intent of the project. His time estime, too, was right on target. (Project aside, he was also just a lovely fellow to meet: by the time he was done, our kiddos were hugging him goodbye.) read more

I don't normally write reviews on Yelp but I felt so compelled to write one for Mike as I want to give credit where credit is due...Also let Los Angeles know what a talented woodworker and great person Mike is! Mike built us an amazing custom bar for our condo unit. He knows his craft and has a real passion for it. He can work fast when he wants to and will work with you on your design and vision for your project. I found Mike on Yelp and started out by emailing him a drawing of my design. I then agreed to meet him at his shop to discuss materials and see samples of wood. We agreed on a price and after giving Mike the downpayment, he then proceeded to work on our project (working through Thanksgiving) to deliver our bar in a week! How amazing is that? Go contact Mike for your project. You won't regret it. read more

I wanted a custom wall rack to hold my collection of vintage surfboards and gave Mike a call based upon his outstanding reviews. He provided me a reasonable quote and, after viewing the quality of some of his other work, I decided to go with him. The rack turned out amazing. TLDR: I would recommend Mike 100% for anything wood. Great quality, great price, and really works with you to ensure you're happy. JOB: I have an awkward space as a result of a "sunken" dining room and a corner pillar and Mike created a custom walnut floating table that fits perfectly in the space and doesn't disrupt the openness and flow. The experience was super great, and the price was right. He really cares about working with you to make sure you're happy and stopped by a few times to take measurements and even after the install to adjust a few minor things. read more

Mike is an absolute gem and I recommend him completely! He is very friendly, professional, and detail-oriented, and the craftsmanship on the bookcase he built for us is incredible. Mike worked really hard to make sure that we were absolutely happy with the end product, and was very creative in coming up with solutions for our concept. We asked him to build a bookcase with a ladder and hidden door which was really challenging, but he did not miss a single detail and executed it flawlessly after doing several mockups in his shop. We get so many compliments on this shelving, and not one person has been able to discern the hidden door. You will not regret working with Mike- don't look any further if you want perfect woodwork! Mick built us the most amazing patio table. He not only listened to what we needed (something small that would fit the tabletop fireplace), but he exceeded our expectations. He used the most gorgeous wood that will last us ages outside, as well as having an interesting history. I love that my table comes with a story. Thanks, Mick! Do you do bathroom vanities and bathroom cabinets?
I have done some specialty custom vanities in the past ( pick up or delivery only Install by others) but not as a rule and generally stay away from bathroom and kitchen cabinets .
