I'd been lifting pretty regularly for 5+ years, mostly doing various highly dogmatic powerlifting…read moreprograms (Starting Strength etc), and despite being under various coaching tutelage, I didn't feel like I was getting good results for all of my efforts. This has completely turned around since I started working with Dane. His method basically is individual programming based on your goals and restrictions, but he pretty much programs everyone in the gym at once, despite everyone doing different things. It feels like a crossfit gym when you walk in, but everyone is doing a different workout. (and somehow he manages to keep track of everyone in his head which still baffles me) After going there for 6 months (only once a week or so, supplemented by my own workouts when I'm away), I've put an inch on my arms, hit the elusive 3 plate deadlift, and alllmost managed a 225lb bench (soon!). And perhaps the ultimate endorsement - a bro compliment from a random dude at my Brooklyn gym saying that I was "looking big." (I am not a big dude. Also, I am comparatively old.) Anyway, go here. You will be completely destroyed after the first few sessions, but it's worth it.

At all times, he knows what you should be doing and is ready to critique your lifts. Not only does he help with the lifts, he helps in motivating all his athletes. I love working out here for a few reasons…read more 1. I always get a free treadmill when I work out. 2. The high tech, touchscreen treadmills have cable; so I can watch ESPN with subtitles while I'm listening to a podcast and running. 3. The employees are friendly. 4. The bathrooms are clean. 5. Dylan, the personal trainer is encouraging. And his classes are challenging and effective. Why it doesn't get the final star... 1. It's a mini-YMCA, attached to an elementary school, which severely limits the availability of the gymnasium. During school hours, it's closed. During summer camp hours, it's closed. Sad. I wish I could practice my J during the day. 2. No pool. 3. No racket ball courts. 4. The bathrooms are limited. Three solo unisex bathrooms. a) Two have a shower. b) One is handicapped shower; and, with a flat ground entrance, that floor is always sloppy.

Review to warn other parents of the horrible condition of childcare…read more We entrusted our son into the care of the ymca, only to find out that a negligent teacher was taking them outside to "work on her car", when she wasn't too wrapped up in her phone playing candy crush. As it turns out, our child was neglected while in their care for an entire year, and rather than the "staff" taking ownership and getting to the bottom of the matter, they chose to ignore me. When they did finally respond (half-assed) it was to deny the entire situation. Placing your child in this "loving environment" is a joke and something I wish we never did. Wanting reimbursement for the severe negligence suffered at their hands was a joke. I am still waiting for them to email me back (I imagine I'll be waiting forever) You would be better off having your child stay alone, as you certainly do not get the care you're promised.
