So I've just completed a seven day marathon with the crew at OLOC. When I say marathon, I don't…read moremean running. I mean seven days straight of some form of high intensity training each day. I am pleasantly sore, all over, but happy.
OLOC is comprised of a small and dedicated crew of trainers from various walks of life, all with the appropriate fitness qualifications and experience in a variety of fields, from competitive to mountaineering. Yes, climbing mountains. You read that right.
Their specialty is CrossFit. But don't let that deter you, if you find that too scary a challenge to contemplate at the start (like I did). You can work up to it. They also offer three other forms of all-over body workout in the form of classes they have labelled SwimFit, BodyFit and Bootcamp. Their programme has enough class times to refute any claim that you "just don't have the time to exercise". There's a slot for everyone. Even on the weekends. Best of all, the gym isn't heaving with 'roid chomping wankers, posing in the mirrors and dropping hefty barbells. Watching the CrossFit classes, I saw a group of different people, some larger, some cut, each cheering the other on, not giving themselves a hernia to beat a record or piss on the person next to them. The class atmosphere, for all classes, is far more supportive than competitive. Regardless, I will still have to build a bit more confidence to undertake a CrossFit class - those exercises look really challenging. But it's something to work towards, so that's an encouragement.
The gym is new, vast in size, well appointed and with a kick ass view over Iron Cove Bay, you couldn't ask for much more if you want to get your body in to really good shape, with truly engaging and knowledgable guidance. And while it's new, you may be the only client for that time slot, which means you benefit from the bonus of personal training, at no extra cost.
I found OLOC had it all:
Supportive trainers who will watch you like an hawk and guide you to exercise properly - tick;
Small class sizes so you get constant supervision - tick;
Plenty of free parking (but note my tip for the weekend) - tick;
Plenty of equipment to go around in perfect working order - tick;
Shower and bathroom facilities - tick;
Easy payment and no lock-in contracts - tick;
Surprisingly friendly and engaging fellow clientele - tick;
Oh, and it doesn't hurt that *all* of the trainers are eye candy, either. Just saying'...
